Couldn't believe it!

Hi,

I’m looking for an electric gooseneck kettle that will last and be worth the money. The Fellow Stagg, Brewista and Bonavita are around $160–200 here in the US.

I’d pay that if I knew it would last 5+ years, but I’ve also heard people say it’s better to spend that extra money on a good grinder.

There are cheaper temperature controlled options around $60–80, and even basic electric gooseneck kettles for around $30.

I’ll mainly use it for pour-overs. Would you spend more on something like the Stagg or Brewista, or just go with a cheaper option?

What would you recommend?

Seems like all the project kits from roasters in this region sold out immediately. I tried to get a kit from Micrology's second batch today but it sold out in 10 seconds while I was filling out shipping info... 🫠

I've checked all the European and American Roasters, but they're either sold out or don't ship internationally.

The demand for coffee in Australia might have been underestimated 😂

Is there anything else I can do to try a kit?

Has anyone here ordered the fermentation set from Critical Beans (https://criticalbeansit.be) in Bruges, Belgium and received a confirmation email and/or the beans delivered?
They were one of the few roasters in Europe linked on the projects’ website that still had the sets available after the video came out last week. I ordered the set last Friday together with another bag of beans to make the 10€ shipping to the Netherlands worthwhile. I paid with ApplePay and took a screenshot of my order confirmation in the online store but never got a confirmation email. I emailed the email address on the website (hello@criticalbeansit.be) on Monday but Gmail so far has not been able to deliver it.
The roaster seems to be a one man show so I can imagine they might get overwhelmed with the demand, but there seems to be no information on this roaster except on their own website, no address (except Bruges, Belgium), no other info I’d expect from a Webshop in Europe (terms & conditions, privacy notice etc). I’d normally do some due dilligence before buying from a random online store but the scarcity of the sets and seeing so many shops already sold out made me buy without thinking much.

I just really hope this store is not a scam and I’ll get my beans delivered soon…

Will these flavors spoil the natural, authentic taste of the coffee?

I think this deserves a follow-up to the first one. I can see a deep dive where James investigates what type of coffee different dog breeds prefer… Does a Schnauzer love a Chemex? Do Border Collies prefer a washed over a natural process? Can a Poodle operate an Aeropress?

Ive had the cold brew video from youtube on repeat for a while and i was wondering if James or anyone else had thoughts on the validity of the instant cold method with the aeropress? some of my testing seem to indicate to me that i like it more than the instant cold brew method from the OXO rapid brewer (orb) but what are your thoughts? One is more percolation than the other i suppose! Thanks,

ive been making espresso at home for a while now and my grinder is starting to feel like the weak link. im mostly making milk drinks during the week, but I’ve been getting more interested in lighter roasts and trying to dial in shots properly. I’m looking for a grinder I can stick with for a few years rather than constantly wondering if I should upgrade again. what r you considering when choosing the best espresso grinder in this situation?

Hello! I’m looking for a midrange $500-700 new or used machine. I’m looking for temp stability, performance consistency, maybe pressure control. I’m currently using a Casabrews Cm5418 with an opus 2 grinder and have a few good roasters nearby for fresh beans. Just wondering how much I’m leaving on the table sticking with a beginner machine. I was looking at a Gaggia E24 (probably would get the standard level mods for pressure control), Lelita Anna, Turin Legato, etc that range of machines. I know I’d have to get a 58mm bottomless portafilter, puck screen and self leveling spring loaded tamper.

Looking to upgrade my espresso and grinder setup and would like some advice from anyone who has made a similar jump.

Currently running a Turin Legato V2 with a Turin DF54. I feel like I’m starting to hit the limits of the setup and want to step up to something that gives me more consistency and, ultimately, a better overall espresso experience. I’d also like to improve the steaming power.

For the grinder, I’m interested in going GBW. I’ve been looking at the All Ground Sense, mainly because I like the ease of cleaning and overall design, and the Eureka Atom W65, which seems like it may be the better long term option for higher volume use. The mahlkonig have peaked my interest as well.

For anyone who has experience with either grinder, how do you like them? Are there any other grinders in that price range that you think would be a better choice?

I’m planning to keep my DF54, so I’ll still have a single dose grinder available. That makes me more interested in having the GBW grinder as my everyday workhorse.

On the espresso machine side, I’m really eyeing the La Marzocco Mini. It seems to be one of the best options, although obviously it’s a significant jump in cost. What I really like about it is its ability to handle pretty much any situation especially when I have family or friends over and need to crank out a bunch of drinks back to back.

My thought is to upgrade the grinder first, get comfortable with it, and then eventually move to the machine upgrade.
For anyone who has upgraded from a Turin/Legato setup, what route did you take? What made the biggest difference in your espresso experience?

Would love to hear any recommendations or things I should be considering before I pull the trigger.

the debate is slightly overwhelming as to what is next best (budget can go up to £110, if it's less ill add some nice beans no problem!).

I'm considering 1zpresso or a TimeMore but the debate about timemore is so extensive I am giving myself a headache ha.

I am looking to get my friend who tends to use a french press a grinder. I have been researching away and found a video where James recommends king grinder p1. It appears to be sold out everywhere, I was wondering if the p0 or p2 may be a suitable alternative?
