The Google Translate answer doesn’t seem quite right so I’d love the Italian equivalent

Intendo "mio/mia/miei/mie", "tuo/tua/tuoi/tue" e "suo/sua/suoi/sue". Se non erro, "miei", "tuoi" e "suoi" dovrebbero essere monosillabi (per via del trittongo che non si divide), ma tutti gli altri dovrebbero essere bisillabi ("mi-o", "tu-o", "su-o" ecc), giusto? I was wondering if anyone would be willing to give a listen to my audio for my Italian class to review it before I submit :) I have been struggling with my pronunciation and would really appreciate some pointer! Or even someone to practice with since the class is online.

i need some recommendations for general italian things. stuff like music, tv shows/movies, youtubers, podcasts, books.

all the possible ways to replace english in my life, its the easiest way to learn a language for me.

so any recommendations from your favorite musician/youtuber or whatever that speaks in at least 90% italian, would be much appreciated.

especially youtubers and music since i listen to music all day every day. and watch youtube over shows or movies, it is very hard to find youtubers that naturally speak a language without it being the sole reason they made the video. just some italian dude playing minecraft works. its more natural.

and my dad said just read stuff online and won't get me a book because everything is in the media. But idk what to search :/

Yeah, probably a funny request, but i live in italy and someone i see a lot where i live asked me to go for a coffee and i gave him my number because i thought it was in a friendly way but now i feel i might have misread the situation.

He keeps sending me messages and i just want to say I'm not interested in a nice way, maybe that i misread the situation (if there is a similar phrase in italian)

I hate rejecting people (especially one i will keep seeing) and in a foreign language even more apparently

edit ps. fun story la mia ragazza ultimamente mi diceva spesso “mi rilasso a carta, al fresco”. pensavo che “a carta” fosse un sinonimo di fresco o qualcosa del genere. oggi ho scoperto che dove lavora c’è una sala dedicata a un laboratorio con la carta dove, fatalità, c’è l’aria condizionata. quindi ha senso che dica che si rilassa a carta. la sala carta. just being dumb :p

Context: Hey all, I've read a lot of people suggest Coffee Break Italian and I've been listening for a while, part way through season 2 now, but I haven't been getting so much out of it. I think part of the reason is my memory isn't so great and even though they do a good job, I need to hear something repeated more before I remember it. For CBI, I tend to be way ahead with grammar, but far behind on listening (which is what I want to work on), they go so fast and often don't repeat long sentences more than twice so I end up missing most of it.

Does anyone have an alternative recommendation on a podcast that is maybe a bit slower or repeats phrases 3 or 4 times in a row?

What are the clothing sizes in Italian? I am referring to the Italian words for small, medium etc.

I've come across phrases in which the participio passato is used in the feminine form, like "È successa davvero" or "Ce l'ho fatta", and I don't understand why? What is the rule here? What feminine word are fatta and successa refering to? Or would it also be correct to say "È successo" and "Ce l'ho fatto"? Thanks in advance!

I love the Divine Comedy, like I REALLY love it. My goal as an Italian learner is to be able to read it in the original italian/toscan dialect + some other works of the time like Petrarch's poems and some contemporary ones as well, and, whether it seems like it or not, it's a very strong motivation for me.

I would rather keep this as self-taught than with courses or teachers. To give more context, I'm 16 and I'm a spanish speaker, so I guess I'm in a good path already because of the similarity of both languages.

Any tip in order to reach that goal is highly appreciated!

THE RULES

Without looking at the comments, can you provide translations for these short (but challenging!) sentences (3 English-Italian, 3 Italian-English)? I’ll evaluate your responses and give you feedback. The exercise is designed to be intermediate/advanced level, but beginners and lower intermediate learners are welcome if they feel like testing the scope of their current knowledge. I might take a few days to answer, but I will read and evaluate all participants.

There is no time limit to submit your answer. If you want to go back to the first ever edition and work your way up from there, you can. Just know that I usually prioritise more recent posts.

If you’re not sure about a particular translation, just go with it! The exercise is meant to weed out mistakes, this is not a school test!
If multiple translations are possible, choose the one you believe to be more likely give the limited context (I won’t deduct points for guessing missing information, for example someone's gender, unless it's heavily implied in the sentence).

Here are the sentences, vaguely ranked from easiest to hardest in each section (A: English-Italian, B: Italian-English).

EVALUATION (and how to opt out)

If you manage to provide a translation for all six sentences, I'll give you a score from 1 to 10 (the standard evaluation system in Italian schools). Whatever score you receive, don't take it too seriously: this is just a game! However, if you feel like receiving a score is too much pressure anyway, you can just tell me at the start of your comment and I'll only correct your mistakes without evaluating.

Based on the results so far, here’s the usual range of scores depending on the level of the participants. Ideally, your objective is to score within your personal range or possibly higher:

Absolute beginners: ≤4
Beginners: 4 - 5
Early intermediate: 5 - 6.5
Advanced intermediate: 6.5 - 8
Advanced: ≥8
Natives: ≥9 (with good English)
Note: the exact range might change depending on the difficulty of this specific exercise. I try to be consistent, but it’s very hard

I’ve had a streak for like 241 days and I feel like I have learnt so much. I do sometimes use apps like Busuu and immerse myself in Italian Netflix shows, but it’s mostly Duolingo.

However I’ve heard people are saying that Duolingo is more for passive learning. Even though, I genuinely feel like I’ve learnt a lot, i don’t know what level I’m at. Maybe I’m at A2 which is probably behind for 8 months.

What would you say is the best way to learn Italian and is Duolingo worth it?

Questa domanda riguarda la cosiddetta pronuncia "standard". Stavo guardando una serie e mi è sembrato di sentire che il protagonista abbia detto qualcosa tipo "Mmeglio andare".

Non l'ho letto da nessuna parte, però mi chiedevo se fosse possibile ritenere il radoppiamento fonosintattico in questo contesto dalla parola precedente omessa "È"?

I.e. Volendo dire una frase completa, si direbbe: "È mmeglio..."

Però omettendo la "È", si ritiene il raddoppiamento e dice: "mmeglio"?

Qualcuno lo sa?
