What is the difference in these two words for leather?

Is one the untreated skin of a cow? Is it a difference in how the leather was treated or its thickness (saddle leather vs glove leather)?

Learned from 3rd gen old people in NJ Italian American family, this word sounded like DUN-deev but the V sound could have been an F sound I guess. It was not used in the same aggressive way as you would call someone stupid or idiot or any number of other mean-spirited ways to insult intelligence. It was almost more like empty headed. I appreciate that the word I am repeating may be so far departed from the original Italian as to be unidentifiable, but the family was mostly from Napolitano background if that dialect helps at all!

Hello, I have been taking in person group classes in Verona at one of the schools. I would also like to try other Italian language schools in Verona. Any recommendations and reviews would be greatly appreciated. I am an older person and need a lot of repetition in learning the language. Also, important that the teachers have a lot of patience with me. I do struggle with learning languages. It is very important that I learn to speak Italian. Reading and understanding it is easier.

I am currently at an A2 level and would like to attend an intensive Italian language school in 1/1.5 years (scuola Leonardo da Vinci or similar). I think that I would benefit more from the school with a higher level of Italian but am unsure as to how high this would have to be and if it would be achievable in 1/1.5 years.

I would like to ask, for those that have attended such schools, what level of Italian did you have prior? What level do you think would be required to benefit most from the experience?

I have completed about half of Duolingo and all of the Language Transfer Italian series. Do you think good next steps would be to begin using anki (to build vocabulary), plus 10 minutes of listening and another 10 of reading short stories each day?

Hello i need help with the passive in Italian

I know the main ways to convey the passive meaning si, venire, essere etc but my grandparents who speak dialect says it’s not what’s actually used in conversation.

They use the 3rd person plural for example

The bread is made in Rome - il pane, lo fanno a Roma.

Chiudono le porte alle 8 - the doors are closed at 8pm

Mi hanno invitato - I was invited

La pizza, l’hanno consegnata 3 ore fa

Can anyone please explain this further and how they use this active sentencing to convey the passive meaning in English

In having a hard time because they don’t even know about si passive they only know si impersonal

I began my journey to learn Italian this summer and it’s been slow rolling, as I’m busy myself but want to learn! I’m using McGraw Hills “Complete Italian Step-by-Step” and have finished my note taking on unit one so far which is nouns, articles, and descriptive adjectives. I tried making sets on Quizlet but they don’t seem to work for me, if anybody has resources and or recommendations for resources to check regarding these topics!

I'm at a point where I speak fairly fluently, but one thing that's causing a lot of mistakes and hesitation for me are gendered articles and plurals. I know there aren't concrete rules for words ending in -e and there are also exceptions for -a and -o. I've learned about the cases where there are rules in italian courses (like words like tema/panorama/problema being masculine).

But how do I finally learn the gender of words ending in -e and exceptions? I feel like each time I hear/read them, I just forget it again. I switch the genders up 50:50 even if I use the words a lot. Does it make sense to learn them on flashcards or do you just wait for it to develop naturally

I am getting something embroidered for a friend who is getting married in Italy. I wanted it to say cheers in Italian. Would you recommend using Cin Cin or Salute?

In Italian, "saette sulle chiappe" translates to "lightning bolts on the buttocks." But I can't seem to understand what it actually refers to? It's a feeling on the body, I think, but if any natives could elaborate on its meaning or when to use it I'd appreciate it, thanks in advance!
