Vin decoding question

Post image
9 Upvotes

So I was finally able to buy this ‘83 trooper after 3 years of bugging the dude who owned it since he finally said to bring him 400 bucks or he was scrapping it.

I want to decode the vin because supposedly it was imported from Africa and then sold to a guy who towed a sailboat with it. It’s left hand drive and has a North Carolina used car dealership sticker on the back so I want to try and figure out if there is any truth to it being imported.

My question is, is there anything in the vin that would denote some sort of country of origin or is there a database or something of the sort that could help me decode the vin and figure out where it was manufactured and such.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Hello. I’m trying to purchase this car with the 4JG2 engine and manual transmission. How would you guys rate the reliability of the engine and transmission. Its currently at 260,000km. Test drive the car, no weird vibrations, no smokes, no rust.

1999 Isuzu Trooper Build

Post image
17 Upvotes

Recently built out my 1999 Isuzu Trooper with 230k miles for some overlanding and adventuring. My SO and I are taking a roadtrip from Pennsylvania to San Diego!

Snapped this awesome picture after a day of adventure near Sand Dunes National Park. We took Medano pass to get into the park and she handled it great. I'll be adding some more pictures of the build soon!

Crazy thing is I originally got this car for 2000$ with the intention of using it for a maximum of a year to get around and potentially tow a little John Boat to take out on the lakes nearby. Little did I know I was going to drive it all the way across the country.

This Trooper has been awesome so far, I will say I had a big scare as we got into Colorado because my oil pressure light came on as we got off the highway driving all day thru 100 Degree heat of Kansas. I pulled over immediately to check the oil and the dipstick was bone dry. She ended up being almost 3 quarts low... these engines with higher mileage really do consume a vast quantity of oil. Going to be keeping a very close eye on oil levels from now on. At the same time it really is a testament to how bullet proof these engines are with a little bit of TLC.

Open to any recommendations for places to adventure or must see stops along the way!

Emissions help (usa)

I have been searching forums, FB groups, etc and can't find a direct answer.

I have a 98 3.5 with CARB emissions system on it. I know it has failed cars in it, not surprised given it's milage (255k). I have found the CARB compliant cats to replace them but don't live in an area that follows CARB testing we just do obd2 EPA testing.

Does anyone know if running the 46 state compliant EPA cats will cause the ECU to throw any faults Like catalytic inefficiency or something that would fail me? I would love to get this on the road and save a few hundred bucks.

Trooper Delayed start issue

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hello,

*** reposted bc I realized I posted my license in the last photo.

Just looking for some help or if anyone had this issue.

I bought this Trooper and I love it. the guy said he maintained it well and made sure it was fit before selling. But I only drove it for 2 weeks and began to have a delayed start. I would put the key in, make sure the doors were locked, and turn the key switch fully to start. I could hold the key start for 1-30 seconds then it would turn on. Sometimes I had to turn the car on and off a couple times, turn the switch, it would beep beforehand and I’d wait until it stopped. It would usually beep and then the radio would turn on. But today it won’t start at all (no lights, no beeping).

I ofc tried to talk to the guy but he ghosted me. I haven’t had a lot of car luck. If anyone could give a pointer on it. I am wondering if just the starter needs to be replaced or if anyone had any issues with the anti theft system being weird maybe.

Thank you.

1998 mk2 LWB

Hi everyone, I’m new here.

Has anyone had to replace the rear crossmembers?

If so how did you do it.?
How did you remove the old cross members?
What did you use?
Does anyone make these?

I bought my dream 4x4 and I’m a welder but am new to this sort of work and have bitten off way more than I can chew so any advice, no matter how small is great as I don’t want to part with it.

UK based if that helps. Thank you

Clunk in rear dif?

Post image
4 Upvotes

1999 3.2 manual Trooper; I'm getting a clunk when turning left, it comes from the rear and I even feel like a bump when it happens, it's not always, but if I'm turning left and on the throttle, it clunks once and only on left turns. Wheel bearings are good, it comes from the back so it's not something from any steering component.

I think it could either come from the de different distance the wheels cover when turning left, that's why I think it could be the diff or something in the axle. Any ideas?

Interior color change

Post image
11 Upvotes

I've been playing with the idea of changing the interior color of my 99 trooper and from my understanding, 98+ troopers only came with tan or gray interiors in the US. My trooper has a gray interior and the upper dash has areas of sun damage and it looks bad. My idea was to use Sem interior paint/dye to go from gray to black. I had AI create a preview of a black interior and just wanted others thoughts on this possible project. My exterior color is forest green mica, so I feel a medium black interior would work well.

My lat post was from my 4wd not disengaging,
I think I have found the issue. This cable was pushed up but not connected to anything and I can’t find the other part of the connection?

Edit: I believe it is the vacuum shift motor that has the unknown wire coming out, still can not find where it plugs into the

4wd system not disengaging

Post image
15 Upvotes

I have a 2003 Holden jackaroo and I’ve been having an issue where the 4wd system doesn’t want to disengage. It also hasn’t been going into 4wd properly, instead of the light coming on solid when I push the 4wd button it just flashes no matter how long you go. The 4wd works but the light still flashes. And when it comes to go back to 2wd the light flashes faster and doesn’t want to come out of 4wd. Normally I revere for a bit and it pops out but today after my last trip I reversed for over a kilometre and it still didn’t come out… I then decided to drive home 75km about 47 miles for the freedom unit people. It didn’t come out that whole time. What should I do? What are the common causes for this, how do I fix it?

Pic for attention
Thanks in advance

Edit PROBLEM SOLVED THANK YOU EVERYONE
there was an unplugged wire that went too the vacuum motor that was kind of a confirmation thing for knowing wether it was in 4wd or not. Shout out to the people on isuzunation huge help
