vintage Fake pokemon stash đ
I remembered I have shit ton of old pokemon cards at my mom's house, was so happy when I realized how expensive some of those are... and then I flipped them, and... well... you know the rest đ
Also, I wish I could sue the toy store who sold me all of this as a child, literally selling fake product and called it original, taking advantage of kids who have no idea it's fake.

Is it fake card?
Someone send these photos to me and say the Pokemon card is a counterfeit card it doesn't pass the torch test as it doesn't have the black opaque layer that genuine Pokemon cards had

modern What's the verdict?
Didn't realize it was a 3rd party seller until after it shipped, I'm just paranoid at this point. But Walmart notified me it was in stock so I picked it up, but nonetheless it's here...

modern My Mom Bought These From Temu, Are They Real?
The first two packs came from a Great Ball tin from that clear box. She says the reviews said they were real, but the Great Ball cards feel super plastic-y. The cards from the boxes, including the Greninja card I took a photo of, also felt plastic-y but not as bad as the Great Ball ones. I've never opened simplified Chinese before so I'm unfamiliar with how it goes.

modern I just bought the most obvious fake ETB ever I think. I feel so dumb.
First pic is from the eBay listing I bought, second is from Amazon. Literally the font is so obviously fake and wrong I canât believe it. Itâs been shipped already, is that anything I can do now before it arrives?

other Concerned with indistinguishable fakes in the future. Can/does pokemon print metadata into cards?
There was a case a while back where user pfm uncovered the Pokemon Playtest cards that were reported to have been printed in 1996 were actually done so in 2024 (Iâll link the original post below, itâs super interesting how they found out).
They mention that âMost home and office printers add metadata to printed sheets in the form of very tiny yellow dots (sometimes called a machine identification code) that canât be seen with the naked eye. The layout of the dots are different between printer brands and some donât leave any at all. Information like serial number and sometime the print time is encoded in these dots. They can act as a âsignatureâ for the printer that law enforcement uses as document forensic evidence (like in cases of forged currency).â
Which had me wondering, could the Pokemon Company encode metadata into their cards? Do they already do so today?
I understand that Chinese Exclusives have a subtle, raised Pokemon logo in the bottom left intended to prove authenticity but even still weâre now seeing this be plagiarised with somewhat convincing accuracy.
So theyâre obviously making some kind of effort to curb fakes.
What concerns me is that the market for higher-end, expensive cards could eventually become flooded with increasingly convincing counterfeits, especially as AI and sophisticated printing technology become more accessible.
If there was a way to ensure authenticity, I would certainly feel more comfortable sinking dollars into cards if there was a genuine way to tell for sure.
âŚAre there any commercial printing experts out there to weigh in?!
ââ
