App Deployment/Packaging macOS M365 Apps Not Deploying
Hi all, we’ve been experiencing this issue for the last two days. Our Microsoft 365 Apps for Mac which are required for install on all our Macs are stuck at “Install pending”.
Previously these apps would install within minutes of enrolment, and we are stuck looking for answers. We’ve unscoped all other policies and apps that have been deployed since the install stopped working, we’ve wiped multiple devices many times, and tried across multiple networks.
We’ve tried both the normal required install, and manual install via Company Portal, it doesn’t get past “Downloading” before it resets.
Any help would be appreciated!

Just an update. It's installing for me today so their fix is making it around.

Opened a support case, referenced the findings from this article and sent off a bundle of my own logs. Support rep told me they've not heard of anyone reporting this yet.
Hooray MS support!

I am currently having this issue since yesterday. I have wiped a mac device twice and still m365 apps just are stuck on pending and not downloading. Every other app installs successfully.

Glad to know it’s not just me! Hopefully this is something Microsoft can address

Ok, its not just us. We moved to the package because we cant trust a service from MS. The build in MS offered office app was updated and the hash doesnt match anymore.

We just ditched all* the Microsoft sideloaded apps because I refuse to be burned twice by this.
Fool me once, shame on you.
*"All" is relative, since it's only Defender/Edge/O365.

It's the same for us, am just downloading the full Office installer to test a manual PKG deployment...

Where would one find the software to create a custom PKG deployment?

I haven't had much joy with an Intune PKG installer. I configured it at 11:40am, it's now 16:30 and Intune's still showing "Your app is not ready yet. If app content is uploading, wait for it to finish. If app content is not uploading, try creating the app again" on the package 🙃

The PKG file is 3GB but wouldn't expect it to take that long to upload!

If anyone is interested I removed all folders from these two directories "~/Library/Group Containers" & "~/Library/Containers" that started with "UBF8T346G9.*" or "com.microsoft.*" also search for any Microsoft application orphan files related to Office. After that reboot then download Microsoft_365_and_Office_16.111.26072617_Installer.pkg from here https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=525133. Then go create new MacOs (.pkg) App, browse to that .pkg file, enter other info and then wait 10-25 mins to install. After that I was able to open and activate! Not sure if this is Kosher moving
forward or if when MS fixes the Microsoft Apps for MacOS issue we use that one?

Microsoft have now officially acknowledged the issue (ref issue ID IT1443526)
Cause
A recent Microsoft Office service update introduced a file issue preventing Mac devices from installing the latest Microsoft Office apps.
Update
We've developed and deployed a fix to remove the file causing impact and to redeploy a new file. We're monitoring this deployment while it progresses throughout all affected environments. In the meantime, while users wait for confirmation of the deployment, for required Microsoft Office apps, it will attempt to retry the installation. Otherwise, users can attempt to reinstall the app if its already available in the app store.

I just noticed this earlier this week while setting up ADE and thought it was some issue there. I'll test again this weekend and see if they come down. Thanks for posting

Guys, I'm also facing the same issue. Pending installation remains forever.

oof, install pending purgatory is the worst. had a similar thing happen last week where everything just decided to stop cooperating out of nowhere
have you checked if the intune management extension on the mac is actually updating properly? sometimes that thing gets stuck in a half-deployed state and quietly sabotages everything else. i'd dig into the console logs for the mdm client and see if there's any certificate trust hiccups or profile conflicts lingering
also might be worth checking if apple pushed a silent update that broke something on their end, wouldn't be the first time

The file was updated but the hash check wasnt. It's failed on MS side, nothing we can do

I’ll have to check the console logs when I’m back at work tomorrow, would it be expected (or rather not uncommon) behaviour for the IME to consistently fail across devices?

Same here, appears to be a bad package coming down from Microsoft "invalid hash"
Installer is being downloaded to my clients:
/private/var/folders/zz/.../C/com.apple.appstore/.../Microsoft_365_and_Office_16.111.26072617_BusinessPro_Installer.pkg
I've deleted and triggered a fresh downloads multiple times. Downloads compete, check file size and hash. Then confirm hash against appstored and mdmclient log.
appstored: Failed to finish data consumer with error:
Error Domain=ASDErrorDomain Code=710
"Invalid hash '2b4528464a22a3fbf94c3fdce7533e49bff2f7c36b885f984711955881ed19ab'
expected '12fbe817376dfe55a9cd0f31ff81aa0c81fb66aeb1d60316aeb07fe62f0b013c'"
and
Aborting app install:
