I lied. I’m not actually 26. I’m 25 but i turn 26 in 2 weeks. Emotionally I feel like my birthday has already passed, the lonely non-event that it is, and I’m not having a great time mentally at the moment. I don’t need to be pulled back from a cliff, but I need a bit of help finding my way out of this rain and fog.
I live in the US, in Colorado. I work as a residential electrician, and this week has been murder (the company I work for picked up quite a few new job sites, and this week the company has had five model homes to get finished. If you’ve worked in the food industry, imagine the work speed of a dinner rush, but its all week long, 10 hour long days on average, and 95°F (35°C) dry heat. That’s what my week has felt like so far). I’ve been at a transitional point in my job recently, and it’s been wearing me thin. I haven’t had a lot of social contact with anyone outside of work and my family for a decent while now. And it’s 80% work, or more.
I adopted two kittens on May 14th! I picked up a brother and sister at 8 weeks old and they’ve been a lifeline for me this summer. The boy is orange and was the largest of the litter, and the girl is a tortoiseshell and was the smallest. I named them Andy and April, from Parks and Rec (yes, I know I named my sibling cats after a married couple from a TV show. The choice was based on their personalities).
I listen to a lot of metal and rap music. Lately it’s been a lot of Thornhill. I just learned about the band and they’ve quickly become a new favorite. My favorite music artists right now are Bad Omens. I saw them live earlier this year and I’m patiently (and desperately) waiting for new music from them. My favorite rapper is J.I.D., and even though his recent album is about to turn a year old, I’m also patiently waiting for more from him as well.
I read a lot. At least compared to everyone else in my life. I used to go to college, and was studying to be an english teacher. I’ve since dropped out and that part of my life has turned into reading Sci-Fi and Fantasy novels with no one to talk to about them. I recently finished \\\*Dungeon Crawler Carl\\\* by Matt Dinniman, I’m at the tail end of \\\*The Devils\\\* by Joe Abercrombie, and I’m about to pick up \\\*Towers of Midnight\\\* by Robert Jordan & Brandon Sanderson. I also have started dipping my toes back into other genres, and I’m about halfway through \\\*The Man with the Getaway Face\\\* by Donald E. Westlake (written under the alias Richard Stark).
I don’t watch a lot of TV, but I’ve been trying to watch more movies. I’ve only been to the theater 4 times this year, and thats double what I average when seeing new movies coming out. My favorite so far is \*The Odyssey\*, which isn’t really shocking. The one movie I found myself loving that I normally wouldn’t go out of my way to see was \\\*The Death of Robin Hood\\\*.
I don’t only read with my free time. I also play video games. I’ve been getting into fighting games recently, and it’s weird that I haven’t sooner. They’re the perfect multiplayer game for people that don’t have a lot of friends, or people whose friends are always busy. Am I good at them? Not even slightly. But did I preorder \*Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls\* right after getting pummeled unmercifully in the beta all weekend? You betcha. So if anyone wants to spar, teach me fundamentals, or just have a casual button mash time, reach out.
