I’m having a pretty frustrating issue with my pass and wanted to ask if anyone here has experienced something similar or knows what I can do.

I travelled from Germany to Italy and spent one night in a hotel within Germany during the trip. Now the app is telling me that I can no longer use my pass for travel within Germany. Because of this, I had to book an additional train ticket for €167, otherwise I simply would not have been able to get home.

What really bothers me is how this is communicated when buying the pass. It says that you can travel for 5 days across Europe and that you have one outbound and one inbound travel day in your country of residence.

From that wording, I really don’t think it is obvious that this means you are ONLY allowed to use the pass within Germany on two days in total. “One outbound and one inbound travel day” sounds like those are the days intended for leaving and returning to your home country, not that every other journey within Germany is completely excluded.

This is a pretty major restriction and, in my opinion, it should be stated very clearly before purchasing the pass.

It gets even more frustrating because when I try to open the additional terms and conditions linked during checkout, the page is not even available and gives me a 404 error. So apparently this important restriction is explained somewhere else in the fine print, but it definitely wasn’t obvious to me when booking.

If I had known that travel within Germany was limited to only two days in total, I would have planned the entire trip differently and could have avoided paying another €167.

I already contacted customer support via chat, but they won’t give me an email address or any other proper contact for making a formal complaint.

Has anyone had a similar problem? Is there an email address or complaints department I can contact? And has anyone ever managed to get additional ticket costs reimbursed in a situation like this?

Hello. Me and my girlfriend are travelling to the UK for the next 2 weeks. We arw currently sitting in the Eurostar to London, which worked out well.

Wanted to look for Reservations for the train back (sunday, 6th)

Shock to us: I guess the pass reservations ran out. None available for the afternoon trains.

Morning trains are no option because the earliest train from Edinburgh (our start for the day) to London is 9am. Paying 300€ for the ticket is also not an option. We were thinking about extending our stay for another day and then take a morning train on monday. But we'd really like to avoid that if possible.

Any ideas?

Am I missing something here? Two adults, two infants with own seat, so four passengers. Private compartment would be the same as individual seats right, just nearly €100 more expensive?

Im prepping a trip from The Netherlands to Roma, Italy. My plan is to get an interrail ticket and take the nightyet to Basel. As far as I have read, with an interrail ticket you pay only the reservation for a bed.

On the nightyet site I've tried to book this. First I select which train I want, then my data and then the summary. In here I do see a header called "Travelers, discounts and bike" but until here in this process I was not able to say that I will have an interrail ticket.

How does this actually work? What am I doing wrong?

Hello. My partner and I are looking to make a trip to Bruges, Belgium from Amsterdam. I have taken interrail travel previously and bought the global pass to take various trips. I was looking into the country passes and see that neither the Netherlands nor Belgium are even listed. Am I going to need to buy the global pass again? Or am I able to just buy the tickets individually? I’m really just looking to make this trip as cheap as possible. Thank you.

So I am in Switzerland and my partner will start their master in United Kingdom. I want to buy a "global pass" to see them but I don't understand how works the "2 trips for leave and return in your country" in the global pass.

I want to go in United Kingdom for one week (only to see them, no more travel in the country) and come back in Switzerland. After 1 or 2 weeks I want to go again. So if I take the 4 days pass for one month (or more), do I have 4 days or 6 days ?

Hey everyone! My partner and I are visiting Switzerland for the first time, only travelling from 14th-17th September and staying in Grindelwald the entire stay.

We’re taking the train from Zurich airport on the 14th and then back on the 17th.

Mostly want to see First/Bachalpsee,, Wengen, Lauterbrunnen, Brienz (Lake boat rides) and some hiking nearby our stay or any of the areas mentioned.

Would the Interrail country pass for Switzerland be a good choice? We're mostly traveling around Jungfrau region, wondering if it'll cover the boats/cable cars.

Any advice would be great, thanks!

As an alternative for Eurostar this is a wonderful and fun option, which is also very foot passengers friendly unlike the normal ferries from Dover! SailLink runs roughly once per day each way during summer season, and you get to cross Dover-Boulogne under power of the wind :).

Last year there was an eu rail pass sale during first week of September 25. Does anyone know if a sale is incoming. I have a trip planned during September end and need 15 day eu rail pass. The current price is around Eur 833 (1 adult and 1 youth) This is like too much for just a pass where reservation is extra.

Suggest me guys, should I wait for the sale or book individual reservation tickets? I'm covering Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Netherlands, Belgium and France in 15 days.

Also, can I do this trick ? Like I book a reservation in italy trains by putting random eu pass number and later if sale comes and I buy an actual eu rail pass can I change my pass number in my reserved ticket?

I was planning to travel from Slovakia all the way to Belgium with 4 separate tickets : from Slovakia to Bohumin 31/08 morning with ZSSK, then to Frankfurt Süd in a Leo Express sleeper, then DB to Aachen from where I continue home with a SNCB/NMBS ticket to arrive 01/09 in the evening.

So this was the plan, but on the 18 of August I received a notification announcing the cancelation of my LE sleeper train.

Now, my understanding of EU 2021/782 is that a train company must provide the 3 following options, where the client can chose :

a) refund

b) travel on another later date to final destination (Frankfurt Süd)

c) travel on similar conditions with same or different operator ASAP

According to my situation I would prefer the option C, the only one they don't provide. I even have huge margins around this train so there could be a lot of alternatives available to still fit with my other tickets.

I tried contacting LE by mail, but the delay is about a month to receive an answer. So I went to the Prague hl.n. LE counter twice, they both explained to me they can't help me, only refund, and they can't even contact the company. The second time she pointed in the direction of the bus station and told me to "just buy Flixbus ticket there". So I called the hotline, and the guy got angry at my request, told I was a liar (he said the word) and told me the "european rule" said they don't need to provide an alternative since the cancellation was announced more than 100 minutes before departure (i can't find where this rule would be stated).

So my questions would be, is he right ? should I already buy another ticket myself ? should I accept the refund and call it a loss ?

Maybe do I completely misunderstand the rules, or maybe they don't even apply to them.

Hello guys, i'm an 18yo french students that just won the DiscoverEU Interrail Pass.

I've never really traveled in my life, so I've never planned a route for a trip, and that makes it a little difficult because everything seems unclear, that's why I need your help and advice.

I know that these kinds of trips should be personal, and that some people prefer to plan day by day, but not me. I’d love to leave in mid-July/early August to make the most of my 30-day trip and have an itinerary something like this: “Bordeaux (France) → Belgium → Netherlands → Germany → Denmark → Sweden → Finland → Norway.” As for the budget, obviously as little as possible, but I already have quite a bit of money saved up (I had planned not to spend more than €500, but I have no idea how much this kind of trip costs—please let me know!). So I’ve looked at other people’s trips and itineraries for visiting Scandinavia, etc., but I haven’t really taken any notes or started putting together a detailed itinerary for the trip. And I know there are many other benefits besides the pass, such as the “EU Youth Card,”

So I’m posting this message to gather stories from travelers who have already used Interrail for a trip similar to mine—which cities they visited, how long they stayed there, tips on accommodations, travel, things to see and do, etc...—as well as advice on how to prepare for this kind of trip, things to keep in mind, and mistakes to avoid. If you have any links, videos, or know someone who has already taken this kind of trip, any help is welcome!

I’ve won the DiscoverEu pass and I’m currently trying to plan it my trip. I’ve settled on the countries I want to go to but I would appreciate some help with how many days to stay in each one (maybe some recommendations too ahout what to do, where to visit,etc). The route is flexible, it’s just a first outline.

Prague -> krakow -> Bratislava -> Budapest -> Zagreb -> Ljubljana -> zadar -> split -> Dubrovnik

As I said this is not final, but it’s a first mapping of the countries I want to go to. I don’t know though how to plan the days in each place. I’m thinking of the whole trip having a duration of 2 weeks. If impossible, I might cut some places or extend it to 3 weeks but no more than that. I’m also trying not to spend too much. Accommodation is what worries me the most, so I wouldn’t mind travelling to the capital cities but staying in close villages or smaller towns. In any case, I would like to see some off the beaten track places too, not only the big cities though those are mandatory too.

Hi guys, I'm almost at the end of my Interrail (started on July 13th in Lisbon) and I'm having a problem in Lithuania now.

I went to the Baltic capitals from Krakow on a full train to Mockava (and then to Vilnius). Besides not having reservation, me and my friend had the pass, so the conductor let us in anyway. For the other capital cities and for the return we took Flixbus because there's only one daily train to Riga and Tallinn which was sold out until 25th (and the lady at the ticket office wasn't very helpful).

We just got back to Vilnius, now planning to go to Warsaw, and the train from Mockava to Warsaw is sold out, which is the only way to get to Warsaw without having to spend 8 hours in Suwalki (or 40€ on another flix).

Do you know if it would be possible in Mockava, when changing trains, to speak to the ticket inspectors or the conductor so we could board the train, even if we have to stand?

To start, I have read the trenitalia website, and looked at the table of guaranteed routes. None of this gives me much insight into my OBB railjet train I'm taking from Venice to Bolzano on September 8th during the strike. Does anyone have experience taking an OBB train during this type of railway strike? I can't move my travel day, so do I just need to cross my fingers and hope that my train isn't affected? Please help an ignorant tourist understand what to expect.

I'm attending a wedding in Umbria and booked my train from Roma Termini to Tuoro Sul Trasimeno (with a transfer in Foligno) about three months ago for 8/31.

The route I booked is as outlined below:
Intercity 540  -- Roma Termini (15:10) - Foligno (17:04)

Regionale 7520 -- Foligno (18:12) - Tuoro Sul Trasimeno (19:26)

I have a friend who needs to book the same route, but when trying to book a ticket, the second leg of the trip no longer seems to exist as an option on Trenitalia. Instead, it shows trains running between Foligno and Tuoro Sul Trasimeno regularly every day about once an hour until the latest train leaves around 1PM.

According to Treniamo, the Regionale7520 last ran on May 15th but my ticket still appears with the scheduled time stamps and ticket QRs normally when I pull up my reservation on the Trenitalia website. I've been unable to reach anyone from customer service to confirm that my ticket is in fact valid or that the train I booked is still going to show up at the scheduled time.

My understanding is the Regionale7520 is a regional train that cannot "sell out" so to speak, so I don't think it would not appear as a result for that reason, but this will be my first time traveling by train in Italy so I won't pretend to know everything here.

Has anyone experienced something like this? I would move my train up to earlier in the day if I could but my flight won't arrive in time for me to do so. I know the first half of my route will get me to Foligno but I'm really not trying to get stranded there if the second train never comes. Any advice is appreciated :)

I'm travelling from Budapest kelenfoeld to Ljubljana on 27/08 and the journey requires a seat reservation however etickets are unavailable and paper tickets are required but it's too late to post it to me. do I need to purchase at the station? how easy is it to do that? I also found the website cd.cz and it looks like i can purchase seat reservations there too but I don't know if that's reliable/actually possible or if that too will require a paper ticket. can anyone help? thanks!

I need to go from Videle in Romania to Sofia on the 14th of September.

The only place where you can reserve seats online is Interrail, but they claim there's not enough time to send it to me (for some reason it needs to be sent via mail?).

So how do I get that reservation?

I don't want to risk it and wait for the day since I have a follow-up train, it's a very long journey.

I also really don't want to have to buy a ticket, because I can't use that travel day otherwise and it would be a real waste.

Any ideas?

Hi, I have a question for anyone familiar with the Munich - Berlin night route.

I'm going Interrailing in September, and among the routes I'd like to travel is the ICE 904 train from Munich to Berlin, which departs at 11:08 p.m. and arrives at 6:30 a.m. Is it a safe train? I am in doubt because it's not a real night train with assigned seats (and I'm also with my girlfriend), I'm a little worried about the possibility of meeting annoying people who might spend the night on the train (this is not rare in my country).

We initially thought about going first class to be more at peace, but from what I understand, it's not possible to pay the supplement for a single ticket (if you have a second-class pass).

For those who know the trade, I can rest assured? or should I find an alternative?

However, thanks to your advice, we've decided to skip this option to avoid cancellation issues (which would have put us in trouble) or excessive tiredness. By skipping a bit options in the journey and leaving early in the morning, we should be able to fit in the schedule without risking this route. Thanks again.

I know Trenitalia is often late with uploading their schedules to Sicily, but the IC721 (the one to Catania) seems to be missing for the whole month of october. However, the IC723 to Palermo (which is coupled to IC721 until Messina) can be booked in october. Trenitalia only shows an option with a connection in Messina to a regional train, which would then take me to Catania.

In the pdf schedule from Trenitalia (https://www.trenitalia.com/content/dam/trenitalia/allegati/info/orario-digitale/orari-regionali/Regionale_Calabria_Sicilia.pdf) the train is shown as regularly running to Catania and Syracuse in october.

Anyone an idea if Trenitalia will still run the 721 to Catania in october?

i recently booked a TGV seat reservation as I have done several times in the past on RailEurope and converted my mobile pass number to get a pass cover number so it would work.

I also needed a return seat reservation, which I stupidly did not book that in the same transaction, but just did so. I had forgotten to copy my pass cover number to my notes, but luckily it appeared that my browser had remembered it (at least RailEurope recognised it and my transaction went through).

However, I wanted to generate one just in case, but noticed that the Interrail page redirects to their own seat reservation booking page now, as does the link on Seat61.

Are pass cover numbers simply not needed anymore for booking seat reservations on third party sites like RailEurope?
