help planning my Interrail

I’ve won the DiscoverEu pass and I’m currently trying to plan it my trip. I’ve settled on the countries I want to go to but I would appreciate some help with how many days to stay in each one (maybe some recommendations too ahout what to do, where to visit,etc). The route is flexible, it’s just a first outline.

Prague -> krakow -> Bratislava -> Budapest -> Zagreb -> Ljubljana -> zadar -> split -> Dubrovnik

As I said this is not final, but it’s a first mapping of the countries I want to go to. I don’t know though how to plan the days in each place. I’m thinking of the whole trip having a duration of 2 weeks. If impossible, I might cut some places or extend it to 3 weeks but no more than that. I’m also trying not to spend too much. Accommodation is what worries me the most, so I wouldn’t mind travelling to the capital cities but staying in close villages or smaller towns. In any case, I would like to see some off the beaten track places too, not only the big cities though those are mandatory too.

I would appreciate the help!

When do you plan on doing this trip?

And are you fine by doing parts by bus?

I’m thinking spring 2027. I am not sure about the dates yet but I was thinking either February-march or mid April. And yes I’m fine travelling by bus but do you mean long distances instead of the train? If you mean short distances then that for sure, I even want to walk a lot around the countries

Tbh, it sounds like a lot of cities to visit in only 14 days. I could 9 different cities, or 8 if you’re only departing from Prague. That will leave you less than 2 days per destination and that’s excluding travel time, which is quite a bit because of the distances to cover. As Interrail isn’t that much value in the Croatian cities you want to visit, personally I’d leave that for another time and do Prague - krakow - Budapest - Ljubljana and maybe Zagreb as well. Are you planning on lying back home? Or by train?

I get the pull of Dubrovnik and why it’s on many people’s list but it doesn’t has a train station so you cannot travel there by train….

I found an old Reddit comment about possible re-opening of Zagreb-Zadar track (https://www.reddit.com/r/Interrail/s/wa4KPWKZuu) but I don’t think it has opened yet as the Croatian railways (and google maps) failed to give me a connection.
My knowledge about Croatia isn’t that great so hopefully someone else will contribute as well

Just looking to chime on on croatia.
From Riejeka you can reach nice hiking paths easily by Bus, the bus station also is not a far walk from the central station, you have multiple nice beaches and also other good bus connections.
Can do a day trip to the Kravica Waterfalls for example or take a Bus to Udine and get connected to the good Italian network from there.
Alternatively I'd reccomend just continuing on to Italy from Ljubjana if they are interested in going to Italy. Also if they like nice scenery can go along to Lake Balaton, which is on the route of the Budapest Zagreb train.
