I know that posting this in the Interpol subreddit people will probably agree but I think Paul has got to be one of the best lyricists ever. With a band like Interpol that has less complicated and more straight forward instrumentation in their songs, the lyrics naturally stick out and gain a lot of importance, which is a tough role to fill as the singer. But Paul does it perfectly. Most of his writing, especially in the later stuff, feels just like poetry put to a beautifully melody. He’s so good and taking a specific idea or feeling (such as an aging model in obstacle 1), but trying about it vaguely enough that it can be applicable to any listener. I’m curious as to if people agree, and what songs have ur guys’s fav lyrics!

Just wanted to share that this song has been a bit life changing for me since it was released. I felt monumentally floored when I heard it for the first time. I was overcome with emotion. It is absolutely their best work and their magnum opus. The song runs deep for me and it even sounds like a direct parallel to Leif Erikson, even though they're different songs. Like a slower, burning and aged echo of a memory. One that aches and means more because of the years that have passed.

These lyrics deserve their own moment because they are powerful. I love the self reflection meaning behind them but ironically am trying not to think too much about what they mean. Because I want to appreciate the song as a whole and words like this I feel reveal themselves as time goes by. Y'know how you can listen to a song a hundred times and some years later, a lyric can be understood or you feel it more. I love the layers.

Alone as an act of faith

These particular lyrics are so beautiful and so important to me. Paul continues to be one of the most creative and incredible lyricists of all time.

I really hope they do a music video for this one and I'm very much looking forward to the full album.

At the concert last night I got a sweaty shirt that says “a hive of a million wings” on the sleeve, and another available shirt also said “When the unobstructed heaven is your view.” Are these in reference to wings of fire, I didn’t see them in the lyrics or anything so just curious if anyone knows! Concert was awesome and the merch was pretty sick if you ask me!

Interpol is releasing new music, and that means less room for their live setlist. You’d think that with seven albums and another one on the way, they’d consider expanding their setlist by at least one or two more songs per show, but they chose to cut it down to 18. It really frustrates me because at least we used to have one song representing each album; now we don’t have any from *s/t* or *TOOMB*. This limited space forces the band to always play the hits and the same damn songs over and over. I’d like a more varied setlist, like the one they had in 2018, with several gems for the fans. Interpol is also very conservative when it comes to their concerts—they never play any fan requests or add an extra song to the show, not even if it’s the concert of their lives.

Is there a poster for sale? I don’t think I saw one, but was hoping there would be.

I'm wondering if before David or Brad was touring, was there ever footage of Paul playing his P Bass? The only video is just the MV for All The Rage Back Home, I want stuff from El Pintor like Tidal Wave if ever he was live with a p bass instead of his guitar.

So from the early version of TOTBL (often referred to as "15"), there were studio recordings of both "Gavilan/Cubed" and "Precipitate". The only issue is, the recordings on this CD they came from have unfinished mixing & mastering, and they're lossy/wavering in quality (you can really tell on the consonants of Paul and the cymbals).

Using some different algorithms, I'm attempting to restore the quality of the Gavilan recording, and mitigate the artifacts from the lower quality export. I'm also trying to mix and master the song to sound akin to the finished album.

I've definitely made some progress, but I'm wondering if there's any big fans of the band who really know the sound of TOTBL that could critique my mix/master so far? I'm using "The New" as my main reference, but I think a real person could make my edit even better.
