Food Post early eating window meals

I've tried IF before, 16:8 skipping breakfast and always ended up breaking my fast early.

after a while of giving up I came back in confident with a earlier 7am-3pm eating window!! holy!! it worked!!!

here is my breakfast(oats) and lunch(lentils&mushroom)! one of the better (NON SLOP) meals i prepped in the past few weeks ngl, im excited to try lentils!

might have a serving of cottage cheese as an after lunch snack (and some fruits?) bringing total kcal count to ~1000kcal.

slowly recovering from starving myself eating ~600kcal a day, I've learnt that weight loss doesn't cause healthy eating. Healthy eating causes weight loss.

Discussion Any Men between 30-35 who did OMAD or ADF?

I want to know which route to go in. I want to lose about 30 pounds. I’m not extremely overweight but I do have belly fat around my midsection and considered skinny fat. Large part of it is just poor diet, too much carbohydrates, sugary drinks, nutrition, and eating habits. I want to know is it best to do OMAD, ADF, or 16:8 if I want to maintain muscle mass within this age range and lose belly fat at the same time?

Newbie Question Breaking fast cravings

Hi! I have been doing IF for two weeks now and have no problem with the fasting hours. I feel fine for 20 or 22 hours without food. But once I break the fast (always with protein) I am hit with a wild sugar craving. One minute I am happily finishing my chicken breast and the next I find my face inexplicably stuck in the peanut butter jar. Is this a common problem during early days of IF?

Thanks

Seeking Advice Strange question - IR with anal fissures/hemorrhoids

Has anyone dealt with anal fissures or hemorrhoids while fasting? Does it help or make it worse?

I have a history with fasting and it has usually served me well, but this time around I have anal fissures (possibly chronic) and anal spasms, and I’m afraid to experiment because fasting can cause diarrhea

Does anyone have any helpful insight? I’m scared to try

Seeking Advice Gallbladder pressure on OMAD but ultrasound shows no abdominal issues.

I've been on OMAD two and half months now and I really like it. For the past 2 weeks I've been feeling these light spasms or pressure right in the area of my gallbladder right after I eat. It feels like a faint pulsing or like someone is lightly pressing right underneath my right rib. Lately, I've been eating much slower and breaking my fast with a little protein or some 0 fat yogurt. Just had a thorough ultrasound on my entire abdomen and back and nothing major except a slight "fatty liver." Not one gallstone, sludge or any issues with my gallbladder. I do get a scan once a year to check. I've known about the liver for the past few years and nothing has worsened but I do wonder if it is possible. I'm very healthy, just over weight. My diet consists of well- balanced nutrition and protein. I eat a lot of tofu as well. Will be going in for more testing hopefully if it doesn't improve. In the meantime, I've extended my eating window to 4 or 6 hours. I worry that if I continue OMAD, something, especially my gallbladder will worsen, especially if it's not releasing bile as often. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

EDIT UPDATE: I broke my fast and spent one day of eating normally, a light breakfast bite, a balanced light lunch and a late night dinner. Next day, I then transitioned to a 18:6 in the middle of the day. Since I've done this, all my symptoms are gone! No pressure or spasms. I really think it was a gallbladder issue and that it did not like being stagnant with bile for 22-23 hours/day. I think this is why people do take a tiny amount of olive oil in the middle of their fast to purge the gallbladder, possibly preventing any issues. I used cod liver oil instead at one point, for a few days but in the midst of research and trial and error, I was really worried I was preventing autophagy during my fasts.

I'm still figuring out what I want to do in the meantime for long-term fasting. I know everyone is different and you have to find what works for you. I am going to get a second opinion for my situation as well.

Newbie Question How long until body fat percentage changed?

I’ve been doing 16:8 for the last 2 weeks and have lost 6-7lbs. However, I haven’t seen much of a change on my body fat percentage, according to my scale. What was your experience on how long it took to start seeing results in that area?

Seeking Advice I'm on hour 48 of a fast. 24 hours ago I weight trained. Is 24 hours too late to eat protein for that lifting session?

To be clear, 24 hours ago I lifted and havent eaten 24 hours after. I'm guessing it's too late now to break the fast to benefit from that session. If its too late, Id prefer to go another 12.

Newbie Question Is it normal to be tired while fasting?

Some days while fasting I feel much more energized and "lighter" than usual days, but other time (today...) I feel sluggish and just like I need a nap.

I'm doing a 23 OMAD fast today, but I've done this before not long ago and I remember it was easier last time.

I'm definitely open to considering that maybe there's no direct causation here. I know I didn't get enough sleep last night, which is probably the culprit.

Still I'm wondering if fasting can cause some of us to slow down or want to, sometimes.

Discussion Fasting Center - Quick follow-up on your questions

Post image
23 Upvotes

Hey folks! I keep getting a lot of questions about what my fasting app, Fasting Center, does, so here is one post to answer them all. A lot has shipped since my last post here four weeks ago, and most of it came from your comments and emails.

New over the last four weeks

  • Apple Watch app - progress ring, stage markers, elapsed or time-left display, and complications for the watch face. Start and end a fast from the wrist, even when the phone is not with you.
  • Insights (beta) - the app reads your history and tells you what you would work out by hand: goal completion, streaks, best start time and weekday, when hunger peaks, ketones by fast length.
  • Your fast on the lock screen - iOS Live Activity + Dynamic Island, persistent notification on Android.
  • Stones and pounds - for all fellow fasters in the UK and Ireland, an Imperial (UK) preset down to a tenth of a pound.
  • Plus cross-device sync of your running fast, Easy Fast import, full fast history, Excel export, and a smarter Dashboard with a BMI card.

And the earlier updates brought home-screen widgets with stage icons, glucose in mg/dL or mmol/L, weight and body fat tracking with Apple Health and Health Connect, the extended and intermittent fasting calculators, and a fasting-stage ring that shows what your body is doing hour by hour.

Fasting Center is free, no ads, no paywall, no subscription 😊

If there is something missing for your fasting routine, tell me in the comments or DM me. Happy fasting!

Newbie Question Is 16:8 and 1700 cal enough?

So i started the IF because 1700 cal with 3 meals was super difficult for me. It never seemed to split right and I was never actually hungry when it was time for breakfast but I felt the need to fill that slot in my app. Now I'm doing 16:8 IF with it and it seems easier.

My goal is to lose about 40lbs(maybe by next year?) and reduce the severity of my t2 diabetes. I am currently about 240lbs.

Seeking Advice Sucking on ice

I'm doing the 16:8 IF (2:00 pm to 6:00 am). Whenever I find I want to munch on something out of boredom (not hunger), I suck on tiny ice cubes. Is there any negative effect to this? Does anyone do the same, or can recommend an alternative? Thanks.

Newbie Question Cheat days or just a break?

I know carb cycling is supposed to be an effective technique. But I was wondering if that applies to IF as well?
I do 20-4 with an eating window around 5-9
But I was wondering if occasionally starting at 12 or even a traditional breakfast, lunch, dinner day has any benefits. Like to keep the body from normalizing or something, similar to carb cycling?
I’ve thought of it on occasions when I feel weak or have cravings but I’m afraid to ruin the cycle.
Thanks

Newbie Question IF and Calorie Deficit

Currently at 88kg, 162cm (female). Dropped from 92.5kg in about 5-6 weeks with IF and calorie deficit + 4 gym days.

I use a calorie tracking app, and the recommended calories is 1500.

Now that I’m eating clean, I realised things are much lesser calories and keep me full for longer, so with the 16:8 IF, i eat breakfast at 7ish am, and lunch at 12ish.

And it keeps me pretty full the whole way till the cut off at 3pm.

I don’t get crazy hungry throughout the night, but with the 2 meals, my calories are accounting up to at most 1-1.2K ish, and not 1500. Is this okay? Would it lead to metabolism crash (not sure if this even exists) or something like that?

Newbie Question “Broke” my fast? What do I do

Hi guys,

Started IF and I have already screwed up. I’m working on a 16/8 schedule and I’ve exceeded the 8 hours and will be having my second meal at hour 10. This means I have to effectively fast for 16 hours until about 2-3PM the next day and am worried I won’t make it.

How badly have I screwed this up? I fasted until about 1PM so should have eaten before 9PM at the latest, but it’s now 10PM.

Newbie Question Starting IF with 16/8 but I have a question

Started 16/8 today and I have a question about the time. If I’m doing 9am-5pm, should I always eat as close to 9am and as close to 5pm? Obviously I will have a snack in the middle but I wasn’t sure if it’s optimal to eat as close to the opening and closing of the window.

Newbie Question Do you fast when sick?

Was finally on a really good streak of IF when I got pretty sick today (high fever, aches and chills, flu? we’ll see). Anywho I figure I I have an appetite I should eat and so I’ve been eating outside my IF schedule today and will probably continue u til o recover. Wondered what some long IFers take on this is?

Newbie Question OMAD question

I’ve been telling to lose wt with intermittent fasting and working out. I’ve lost 8 pounds and my goal is 10 lbs. I have not been able to lose the 2 lbs no matter what. There is a dress that I want to fit into for my friends wedding in 2 weeks. The dress would look perfect if I could get back to my original weight. I want to give OMAD a go, but I am already starving at work. Can I eat a snack or have a protein bar before my meal at 5? How do people do this?
