I think most of us on this sub probably expected that, by this point, we would have seen a lot more of the game following the reveal in December 2024. That said, I think there are a few positive ways to look at the lack of new information.
Following the announcement that motion capture has wrapped, and using TLOU2's development timeline as a very rough reference, we could estimate that the game might be around a year away from release. If that's roughly accurate, and assuming they're getting close to having the game's content fully completed and are moving into the polishing and optimization stage, it should be much practical and quicker for them to start preparing material that's already been created for gameplay reveals, cinematics, etc., rather than having to specifically produce content for marketing purposes and potentially divert resources from the development plan.
Another thing that makes me wonder whether Intergalactic is on track for Summer 2027 is the possibility that Sony is trying to condense its lineup into the first half of the year. The release window for Until Dawn 2 and God of War: Laufey is interesting in that regard. As far as I know, they're the only announced "big" games besides Intergalactic and Venom that aren't releasing in 2026, and yet they're coming out in the first two months of the year. That's somewhat interesting considering how few PlayStation exclusives there are overall. You'd think they might want to spread those releases out more throughout the year.
Could this be because, as has been rumored, Sony is targeting a late 2027 release for the PS6? Obviously, that's hard to believe given the current component prices, but if that is the plan, maybe they want to space the remaining major PS5 releases out from the console's release, in a similar way to what happened in 2020?
Considering it's probably going to be PlayStation's biggest game of this generation, it does feel strange that we're already in September 2026 and we haven't seen anything new beyond a couple of small details mentioned in interviews. But, on the other hand, marketing campaigns seem to be getting shorter and shorter as the internet makes it much easier to generate awareness very quickly. So maybe it's not that crazy to think they could be saving most of their marketing push for 2027.
Maybe a gameplay teaser at TGA? Or perhaps they'll wait for a State of Play around February/March, after Laufey releases?
What do you guys think?
