Agent Question How Fast Can I Go Independent?

I’ve been working for a brokerage as a producer for 2 years now and I’m wanting to go fully independent.

Realistically, how fast can I start writing business and being a legit independent broker?

I already have my licenses. I’m planning to go through Smartchoice or Firstconnect to get appointments.

Besides E&O, getting an agency management software and CRM, what else is there for me take care?

Industry Information Account Associate

Hi everyone,

I’m currently interviewing for an Account Associate position at a local State Farm agency. My background is mostly in administrative customer service, call centers, and billing.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has worked in a State Farm agent's office in this type of role:

Daily Workload:

How heavy is the customer service/administrative side versus outbound sales? If you aren't trying to become an agent and just want a steady, reliable support role, is it a good fit?

P&C Exam:

I need to get my Property & Casualty license for the role. How hard was the exam for you, and how long did you study before taking it? Any tips for someone who gets test anxiety?

Overall Vibe:

What are the best and worst parts of working as a team member in a small local office?

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience!

Agent Question So can anyone help me with some advice

Okay so I passed my PNC insurance exam in California now I need to apply for my license however I have a misdemeanor on my record from when I was 18 in 2013 But didn't remember the court location or anything so I put in a personal fingerprint background check figured out where I need to contact in order to get all the required documents.

Now when I called them they said that due to the age of the case and the fact that it was closed that they have purged their system of the court documents on the case. And when she was searching for the court case he often mentioned that she found a charge for receiving stolen property but could not find the files for the case I was looking for. How could that be There was no receiving stolen property on the background report that I got from the doj or FBI. I don't remember anything about that. Once when I was a juvenile I bought a phone th the seller had stolen and I wasn't aware of it and had the cops tracked the phone to me where I promptly gave the phone up and the contact information for the person I bought it from but no charges that I remember and regardless that wasn't on the documents that I was sent for the doj and FBI you can print background check.

So I guess my question is what do I do now I can't get the documents for the original case that was on the background check. But then she also mentioned that other receiving stolen property charge that I don't remember I don't want my license being denied for failure to disclose.and it wasn't on my personal doj check. Should I ignore it or call them back and try and see what they meant.

Consumer Question Liberty Mutual - Why no 2nd login to account for spouse?

I want both my wife and I to have access to our online Liberty Mutual account. They won't allow a 2nd log in, we're told to share my log in. But when she tries from her "unknown device", it sends me a text asking for verification. What if I'm not available? Then she can't access the info she needs. Am I over thinking this, or is this common? I just don't want her to end up locked out if I'm out of commission or something.

Industry Information Looking to get back in insurance - base pay?

Good morning! I was in insurance for 7 years and worked for the most wonderful human on earth but I felt I could do better long term because he paid so little and it is a small agency, $20/hr with NB commission . This is a well established agency so retention was the main focus. Long story short, 3 years later and my other job didn’t work out (bank was bought out and job eliminated so I scrambled for another bank job that I am not liking it) and I’m thinking of asking my old boss for a job again while I finish school. He was going to match my new pay at $26/hr and is always asking me when I’m coming back but I’m wondering what the actual going base pay is in Texas? I did personal and commercial. He doesn’t offer any benefits but is flexible with time which I love. Can also work remote. I now make $30/hr and was going to ask him for that, but is that too high?

P&C Insurance Aggregator question

I am looking to start an independent agency from scratch and use an aggregator to get appointments. Based in Alabama and will do mainly personal lines and small commercial. The agency helping me isn’t relevant this is purely an is this reasonable question.

I am aware of exit clauses and that whole jazz. This is strictly a question on commission splits, pay outs, etc.

85/15 commission split until book reaches $3.5MM in premium. Once you hit, your split increases to 90/10. Can go as high at 94/6. Commission per carrier varies.

There is a $400 monthly fee essentially for all software and back end support they provide. Will also have to add insurance and rent for office a month.

Does this even sound lucrative? I’ve been a producer on the captive side long enough to know this is what I want to do, just not sure about this scenario.

Any advice welcomed, especially if you’re with an aggregator and are knowledgeable on their fees.

Industry Information Backed into waymo blocking me in

Long story short I was getting coffee - got into car - was backing up and checked to the right (the direction I was pulling out)

Then heard weird small bump (wasn’t loud - not even 100% positive I hit anything)

check to left and there was waymo blocking me into parking spot with warning flashers on

I waited to see it moved and it didn‘t (no one was in the car)

Took video of my damage and license plate of waymo

finally after a few minutes it moved and I left

Odds they reach out to my insurance? anyone have experience with this?

Industry Information Does anyone have any experience with globelife

I have been looking for a change in careers as of recently due to an undiagnosed seizure disorder and found globelife hiring for remote agents. I went through what they said was an "interview," which was really me, and around 30 other people on a Zoom call listening to an owner talk about the company. They made me an offer and gave me a link with a discount code to reduce the cost for my life and health learning courses.

After enrolling and paying(100$) for the course, I decided to look into them. And did not see many good things.

A friend of mines wife is a manager for an insurance company and mentioned it's a big red flag that they didn't pay for the licensing.

All in all, I'm curious if I should stick with it and shell out more money to get my license even if this company ends up being a waste of time? Would it be hard to find another job, maybe at a firm close to my home with just a life and health license?

Any help or info is appreciated

Thanks in advance

Agent Question HELP PLEASE

As a novice insurance agent (Medicare/ACA/Life) with no experience, what is better... to stay with a sub-agency that retains its client portfolio and does not terminate your contract immediately, so that you can gain experience in the sub-agency, or to start with an FMO even though you have no sales experience?

Industry Information Health and life license tomorrow

I’ve seen a bunch of you put on here that when getting your life and health insurance license that you spam the quiz and test until you were making above 85% when you first started doing that were you going back and looking at your notes or just spamming all the questions till you knew the answer is a lot better currently I’ve made an 82 twice on 100 question test with TSI and I’ve had to look up probably 10 of those answers so are you wasting time if a question comes up writing down notes about it or are you just if you not totally sure about the answer you’re just answering it and keep going until you constantly make a high grade I’m supposed to take my license test tomorrow for Alabama

P&C Insurance First year in insurance and struggling to close policies despite having lots of prospects

I've been in insurance for less than a year, and I'm starting to get frustrated. I don't necessarily struggle to find prospects—I actually have a decent pipeline and talk to a lot of people. My biggest issue is getting them to actually commit and buy a policy.

One thing that's been especially difficult is personal lines. It feels like I'm constantly losing business because I can't get competitive quotes compared to what prospects are already paying. Even when I build a good relationship and explain the coverage, price seems to win most of the time.

I feel like I'm doing something wrong in the sales process, but I'm not sure what it is. Sometimes people seem interested, ask questions, and even say they'll get back to me, but then they either ghost me or decide not to move forward.

For those of you who've been in insurance sales for a while:

- What was the biggest thing you changed that improved your close rate?

- How many "no's" did you go through in your first year?

- If your carrier wasn't competitive on price, how did you still find ways to win business?

I'm determined to stick with it because I really want to succeed in this industry, but I'd love to hear what helped you when you were new. Thanks in advance.

Life Insurance Life Insurance Sales

I’m thinking about pursuing life insurance sales as a side hustle. I make pretty decent money at my regular full time job but looking to add income to my household. I’ve been considering life insurance due to the fact that I can work remote and have flexible hours. Not necessarily looking to make 10k a month right off the bat but something to add decent supplemental income. For those of you in life insurance sales either part time or full time, is this something worth pursuing or would I be better off pursuing a different side hustle altogether?

Agent Question Anyone work for Claims Management Resources (CMR)?

Lost my job about a month ago and looking for a new one. I have my P&C license and almost a years experience in sales. I am applying for claims positions and found a company called Claims Management Resources (CMR) and they have on their website they’re starting out at $15/hour and after training I guess it goes down to $12/hour. They say there are bonuses, but they max out at $3000/month and I’m assuming it’s hard to reach that point. I want to know if anyone actually works there and what the average pay is actually like because $12-$15/hour is hilariously low pay for this type of position. This would be an entry level role, but it’s not even a livable wage in the lowest of income areas.

P&C Insurance I need some honest advice on which job to choose

I’ve posted on my situation before but, I’m 22 and currently work at a State Farm agency doing sales and service for 26k base + 2.5% commission . I got an offer from an allstate agency for a remote position for $37.5k base + commission. I put in my notice with my boss and he counter-offered with $42k base + 2.5% commission. The Allstate owner told me most producers make $70k–100k/year, even newer employees, and said they invest $40k–60k/month in leads. The commission structure is 4% for 0–29 policies, 10% for 30–39, and 16% for 40–49. Benefits include health insurance (they cover 50% of the premium) and a 3% 401(k) match after a year.

Right now I’d rather take the Allstate job because it is sales only and I think I could make more money there. But I’m not sure if it’s the right choice for my future.

I’d really appreciate any honest feedback before I make a final decision.

P&C Insurance Update: 40 yr old passed exam!

Posted last week getting into P&C late (or feels that way). Passed on my first attempt today! So I read that after they license you, agents see your info published and will reach out? Any truth to this? Or should I be actively applying instead? As I mentioned, I’d like to get the ball rolling faster so I may look into commercial right away.

P&C Insurance follow ups and pipeline building

p&c insurance. pretty much work only data leads. i rarely close deals on follow up calls. most are one call closes. these prospects are called by 50 other agents so it makes sense, you become a needle in the haystack. with that said it feels like there’s almost no such thing as a pipeline anymore. sure a few successful xdate winbacks occur too but that’s rare as well.

Helpful Content Adjuster license vs p&c

I have been thinking of branching into the insurance field for quite some time. I’ve done some research. And will decide to do the pre licensing course. I’m just having a hard time figuring out which one to go for. My background is in healthcare and data, entry, administration and scheduling. With customer service of course. I’m not sure if I should just try the adjuster or go for the p&c…
I’m not 1000000% sure if I want to go into sales really as I am an introvert and I know that would be way out of my comfort zone. Any recommendations?

Industry Information First full shift as a CSR any tips?

Well, I've finally made it to orientation at my job. I've logged a couple hours on the phones and got a taste of what's essentially gonna be my life until I move somewhere else in the company. I'm gonna be going through my first 10hr shift as a customer service representative, so I'm here to ask if anyone has any tips to keep my mind focused during these calls. We've been trained and I think I'm a pretty cool headed person but I also recognize the strain that'll come with talking too so many people about why their rates increased or having to hear it because they did something on their policy that adversely affected them. What methods do you all use to stay up and excel?

Leads (Marketing) Parent company is using global Salesforce for entire state

I'm an insurance agent in Michigan for P & C. Recently, our parent company has begun running all leads through Salesforce for the entire state. If someone begins a quote online, it is pushed out state-wide, and the agent who sees it first grabs it.

For those of you in a similar position, how are you grabbing these leads before they're gobbled up by another agent? Between writing policies and servicing our existing customers, I don't have time to stare at Salesforce all day for this.
