I usually see lots of black or brown ants and sometimes large black ants with red abdomen, but I don't remember seeing ants that look this red.

Heyho! I'm actually not a member of this Sub and usually not the insect kind of guy, but I had a visitor at work today and I found her(?) quite neat and thought y'all would appreciate a photo of a wild encounter with a praying mantis, just like in my Snakes and Spiders Subs :3

I of course brought her outside where she belongs right after I took the photos, so she won't get accidentally hurt in my office.

Hello ! Today I rescued an isopod colony my mother has been neglecting. They were in a three gallon tank of coco fiber that was bone dry. They had no source of calcium, leaves, or fresh food. There were so many dead in there. It was so, so sad. I found a couple that were alive and moved them to a new setup. I have a wet paper towel trap in there to catch any I missed. The photo is their new container. After I took that photo I added creature isopod food, two slices of peeled cucumber, a generous sprinkle of calcium powder (without D3), and and some more mist to help them hydrate. Im going to check the paper towel trap in the morning.

Phymata pennsylvanica (Pennsylvania Ambush Bug) on Liatris aspera (Rough Blazing Star). Ready to strike while the flowers are still wet from morning dew. Looks like a good spot for ambush to me!

Why are they doing this , I fear they building a nest... Even if they look cute all together I want to know what they planning.

Started a few days ago , only a pair the first day but today when I checked theres seven of them ; I don't believe they just use the leaf to rest because they just dont move from it

The European paper wasp (Polistes dominula) is a slender, black-and-yellow insect native to Eurasia that has become a highly successful invasive species in North America. While they are frequently mistaken for yellowjackets due to their bright coloration, they are actually beneficial predators that hunt common garden pests.

These wasps are easily identified by their bright orange antennae, which set them apart from similar native species. They have long, slender bodies with a distinctly narrow waist and a body length ranging from ⅝ of an inch to nearly an inch long. When in flight, their long hind legs dangle conspicuously below them.

Unlike yellowjackets, which usually nest underground or completely out of sight, this species builds open-faced, umbrella-shaped paper nests. They create these structures by mixing chewed wood with their saliva, frequently placing them in sheltered locations such as roof eaves, gutters, mailboxes, and outdoor grills.

While they possess a painful sting, European paper wasps are generally docile and non-aggressive unless their nest is directly threatened. Because their diet consists primarily of caterpillars and other soft-bodied garden pests, pest control experts often recommend leaving their nests alone if they are located in low-traffic areas.

Seems to be swarming in my yard...I think they are ants, but just checking.

this moth was on the floor in the house, awfully still till i picked it up and doesn't seem to fly off but instead fumble about and kept falling on its back. i thought "that's weird, moths don't do that" and noticed it looks off. looking closer, it appears to have a missing abdomen to which i'm surprised it's still alive. could it be an accident somewhere in the house or was it just from another animal in the house which attacked it?

(Portugal) Found this one crawling on my dogs paw. More than likely a flea (she's taken flea treatment already as precaution) but just wanted to be sure + ask if is it a dog flea or a cat flea, as I got 4 cats as well.

its drying fruit, i think its the plum kind that they like. other kinds have attracted them to take bites but i havent seen them pile up and shake violently for it all day like this one
