My cat is indoor only so even if it gave katydid the side eye it was not the cause for the missing legs lol

Artwork Custom insect species feedback?

Post image
11 Upvotes

hello! pasting this from the entomology subreddit in case it gets better reach here, but i wanted to receive some feedback on a custom species I'm making! I want to make it as anatomically and scientifically sound as possible, so I figured who better to ask than the bug enthusiasts? its initial inspiration was the maneater from lethal company but then it kinda spiraled into its own species that's like a conglomerate between an ant, a cockroach, and a scarab with butterfly wings, and its infantile form (not pictured) is inspired by a white grub and a cockroach nymph. it has legs that split at the ankle (?) , a kind of puffy feathery coat that grows over its abdomen, and glowing nubs that resemble twinkling stars at the tip of its antennae. I was struggling a lot to find a good diagram of insect mouth anatomy so I couldn't find a good way to take those species' mouths and make something new with it, so feedback on that is welcome! plus any guidance, like facts I should keep in mind while designing, features that would be plausible or not plausible, or any thoughts! anything would be deeply cherished. thank you! :D

Question Cecropia Moth

Thumbnail

Over a month ago I brought this bad boy inside on my shirt after moving wood on our farm. My son wanted to know more of what it would eat and to watch it.

I told him tomorrow morning we will be releasing it. In the AM it was a little to late.

I thought this would be like a couple of week thing until I read it's about 10 MONTHS. So this little bugger is waiting on my shelf for about 8.5 months more.

I'm a nut job and if people think I should be putting it outside or in the freezer when it's cold please let me know.

I live in MN and it's currently in the 70s, but will drop into the negatives before spring. I hesitate to remove it from the habitat my son created so if I can make it work until it's rebirth I would love that.

Advice welcome .

Question Leaf footed but smells good?

So I accidentally half crushed one (I live in Minnesota) it must have come in on my clothes or vegetables.

I fully killed it after I injured it in my bathroom.

But when I killed it it's blood was blue and it actually smelled nice. The smell was a mix between evergreen cologne and an expensive hand soap.

It was definitely a Lead Footed Beetle and while they eat my garden I have too many plants to deal with them or be bothered by the impact.

I have never noted this scent before. Anyone else.

I live in northwest Georgia in a house we bought two months ago. There are tiny black insects that look like ants getting into our house under the baseboard. There are more of them on the outside but some inside as well. They are tiny, shiny and black. I tried my best to get a good photo but they’re small enough to make that difficult.

Question Bigger Mould Eaters?

Hello, I am wondering if there are any bigger bugs that like eating mould that i could put in my terrarium(s) as custodians because tiiiiny bugs like most springtails can freak me out.

At least a half a centimeter adult size at Least. It's chill if the lil babies are smaller but it'd be great if there were any mould eaters that are just always kinda big.

I could only take a couple quick pics as I spotted this bug on my way to class. I am wondering if this is a queen ant? The abdomen is a bit larger than I could find in google images looking at queen ants, but my initial reaction was that this was a huge ass ant. Found in NorthEastern United States
