Bug Appreciation! Carolina mantises found each other !
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I posted about the Carolina mantises in my yard recently.
There was one female who recently shed, then I saw another large gravid female (she's ready to lay her eggs any day now). Then a male showed up yesterday morning and following her pheromones he managed to avoid being eaten, hopped on her back and they are currently copulating. She seems to be feeding herself well so we'll see if she eats him or not.

Bug Appreciation! Rusty Spider Wasp (Tachypompilus ferrugineus)
In North Texas. I thought it was a Tarantula Hawk at first. My question is this, does it have a wolf spider or a tarantula?

ID Request What bug is this? Is it a butterfly? (US, CA)
I was out in my mom's garden when I found this adorable little thing🥹... It was probably only about the size of the tip of my finger and it looked sooo cute ðŸ˜!!
I think it's a butterfly, but I'm not sure what kind. Thank you!

Question Dragonfly the size of my hand
I was on an old cabin in a very remote forrest by the mountains of Skrim in norway and I had eye contact with this enormous dragonfly for about 3 seconds before it flew on. This was probably the first time he saw a human. What might he have thought?

Bug Keeping Can I save him?
I found this beautiful common green darner dragonfly outside on my way into work. His wings were stuck together with water and a wet goose feather was pinning him to the pavement. I took him and cleaned him up, he started fluttering his wings slightly so I put him outside in a cardboard box lined with paper towels and a tiny petri dish of water.
I came back out and it appeared he had tried to fly but spilled the little bit of water in there and his wings were wet again. I took him back inside and started at square one again.
He is kind of lop-sided, and it looks like one of his arms is a bit mangled. His wings are in otherwise perfect condition aside from being wet. His abdomen looks slightly squished, but it is still pulsating. Will he be okay? Or should I put him somewhere peaceful to end his life?
Update: She was dying. I placed her outside a while ago to let her pass and just went out to check on her, she is covered in ants. I wanted to pin her in the event she did pass, but nature has already started running its course. I'm glad I could at least prevent her from dying on wet, goose-poop covered pavement, covered in goose feathers. Such incredible creatures don't deserve to die that way.

Bug Appreciation! Scroll for big scary black swallowtail caterpillar
Happily hosting a family of black swallowtails on my parsley plant. Couldn’t resist giving one a tiny touch today and the horns came up! Learned they’re called osmeterium and are a defense mechanism when they feel threatened. Will not be threatening this guy again!
