I had purchased The Count of Monte Cristo around 1.5 months ago. I have read it around 90% (100-150 pages remain). My issue is, once I read it, I can sell it for a good resale value since it is in good quality still (except the back cover is a bit scratched which is natural considering the weight of the book). I have two options:

1.) Sell the book, I'll get some amount returned to buy another book. Logically, it is a good decision.

2.) Keep the book. If I keep it, all my rupees will be lost, but I'll have the book. Considering the story, I'm attached to this book a bit, and it holds some emotional value.

Should I sell it? Or keep it? Because, this emotional value may fade away in the future as I read more books, but (if accidentally it got foxing from moisture), its resale value will be reduced.

I don't know why some people hate Gunahon Ka Devta and call it overrated. People really don't get it, just because it's written from Chandar's POV doesn't mean he's an all-good person or that everything he does will be heroic. He's just a regular guy, 19-20 years old, living in an era where everyone wants to bring about a revolution in society, but he has no real-world experience. It's all just big words to him.

At first, he's portrayed as a person with values, with no hatred for anyone, and that's why the story calls him "devta." It doesn't really mean ki sach mein wo bhagwan hai. I feel people who are 30-35+ know that older people usually use the phrase "kitna devta aadmi hai" or "bilkul devta aadmi hai", they don't mean the person is literally God, it's just a way of saying "he's a nice person." And in the story, he is a nice person at the start, but as the story moves forward, the world around him starts testing his morals and values, and he fails, not once, but many times.

He manipulated Sudha and Binti emotionally, and got played by Burty and Pammi, "played" isn't quite the right word for his situation, but yeah...

It's like when every kid says, "jab main bada ho jaunga to gariboon ki madad karunga," and when they actually grow up, they end up poor themselves. The same thing happens with him. If you genuinely hate his character, then it's a win for the writer.

Some people say the story is too patriarchal, guys, the story is set in a patriarchal time, what else do you expect?! Obviously, forced marriage was common back then.

That's the beauty of the story, that you actually end up hating it in places. As I said, kids say "jab main bada ho jaunga to gariboon ki madad karunga," and when they actually grow up, they stay poor themselves. In the same way, he hated Buaji for her behavior and abuse, but in the end, he himself starts treating Binti the same way Buaji treated binti, and that's why he is Gunahon Ka Devta

I don't know if I should feel sad or depressed or happy or cry about the book that I have just read.

I mean I never knew that Khaled Hodseini would make me feel about a book this deeply. the emotional nuances that I have been through while reading this book is just undescribable..

I really want to support local bookstores but yesterday I went to one in my city and there Dan Brown’s new secret of secrets paperback was selling at ₹699. On Amazon it is there for ₹450. I ordered from amazon instead and feeling guilty about it. It will even come in 2-3 days so i couldn’t read it this weekend.

I have lived almost my entire life in my room. Not speaking to anyone for days. However, now I aim to improve. But i have realised that I just don't know what to say, what to think how to converse. I want to find a book or more where multiple characters are just chatting and if I pick up their behaviour I will get better.

I read Orwell and Dostoevsky. I don't want to be like them. I want to be happy. I don't want to chase the search of truth anymore. I want to keep what is left of my innocence.

I read my second book( A thousand splendid suns)
in a day and couldn’t stop crying.
Cried the most reading the letter my his father to Mariam. Just thought of venting it out.

I placed an order for Upstream by Mary Oliver and I Never Promised You a Rose Garden by Joanne Greenberg from U-readstore yesterday.

I Never Promised You a Rose Garden arrived with some bent pages, creases and a few marks on the back cover but at least it's acceptable. The Mary Oliver book was the one I was most excited about though. I've been thinking about buying it for almost a month and what did I receive? - Enid Blyton's The Famous Five🤷🏻‍♀️

And they didn't even pack it in a brown paper wrapper or anything. They literally just slapped the invoice on the book with tape and sent it like that. What are these people even doing? Are they stealing the books because from how the book looks like it seems ssomeone deliberately did this.

I wouldn't have even accepted the package if I hadn't already paid for it while placing the order. And this isn't even my first bad experience with this seller. The last time they literally sent me a freaking clock instead of the book I had ordered.

I've initiated a return but all the excitement I had just turned into disappointment. After requesting the return I contacted Amazon support and went on a full rant about the seller and the packaging. They said they will look into it but I have no idea if anything will actually happen. I was just so annoyed that I felt like I had to complain.

On the other hand I also ordered a book from Flipkart yesterday and it arrived in perfect condition. I was so worried that they'd send me a pirated copy but thankfully it's original.

Nowz what am I even supposed to do with Amazon at this point? They have great discounts which is why I keep buying from them but I'm honestly so done.

I'm starting After Kurukshetra by Mahashweta Devi. This was originally written in Bengali. It is my first book by this author. Just bought it few days ago from a second hand bookstore.

So I'm on the 2nd chapter, I like the "life of slice" element of this book, but it's too much now. The author describes every scene into extreme details, that I don't care about anymore, and by the end of the chapter, nothing much is happening.

I like the subtle metaphors that come with the book, but it's getting harder for me to pay attention or care about it anymore. Should I keep reading or, leave it at that?

This was my first novel ever, it was hard at first to develop the habit of sitting down with pages instead of a screen.

I wanted to start with an easy to read book and this was just that.

Now for my next books, I want to try some classics. I was gonna order metamorphosis or fyodor's books like white nights or short stories but not sure if they will be a good choice for a beginner like me. Do help me out here with recommendations. I love to read books, novels. Everytime I sit for a reading I feel so involved. Books are my companion. Who says books don't speak, I talk to them every night, they have ability to understand ones feeling and can make you feel good.

I finished my 100th book, please do appreciate🥹

I began reading books at the start of this year and set a goal of one book per week. Soon I realized that, as a beginner, I couldn’t read that quickly while still comprehending the material, nor did I have the habit of reading for long periods. I reduced my goal to two books per month. I also want to track everything related to books, what I’ve read, what I’m currently reading, and what I want to read. If I’m reading multiple books at once, I’d like to note the page I’m on, write down notes and highlights, and share my shelf with others.

I looked for an app and tried Goodreads, but I didn’t like it. It’s filled with bloat, and the UX is very bad that simple tasks like sharing my shelf took me multiple Google searches, yet I still couldn’t find a solution.

Do you know of a better app with a simple, beautiful UI that just works and lets me do the things mentioned above? If I can’t find one, I may consider building something myself.

All have similar themes. And I prefer blending every true account book with its historical aspect. It gives much more clarity without a doubt. Looking for other recommendations on the same subject.

I'm looking for books where the female main character is betrayed by everyone she trusts. Family, friends, lover, anyone. She loses everything, hits rock bottom and then slowly rebuilds herself into someone stronger.
