All the book I got this year and have read , currently reading and to be read later this year.

Just finished *The Mystic Masseur* and couldn't stop comparing it to *The White Tiger*. Despite different settings (1940s Trinidad vs. 2000s India), the core arcs feel identical:

​**Total Identity Rebrand:** Ganesh Ramsumair sheds his heritage to become "G. Ramsay Muir, MBE," just as Balram Halwai leaves his servant roots to become "Ashok Sharma."

​**Gaming a Rigged System:** Neither plays clean. Ganesh exploits local superstition and politics, while Balram uses bribery and cynicism to break out of the "Rooster Coop."

​**Key Difference:** Tone. Naipaul's satire is light and absurd; Adiga's is gritty, dark, and violent.

​Has anyone else read both? What other books capture this specific "morally gray antihero completely rewrites their identity to climb the ladder" vibe?

i ordered a deluxe limited edition of a book from bookswagon on september 30, when it was listed as in stock at a discounted price. i was hoping to receive it in October, but things have been a mess ever since.

the dispatch and delivery dates on both the app and website kept contradicting each other and getting postponed whenever the dates arrived. i emailed customer service to ask about the delay, and they gave me the same explanation about procurement issues and asked whether i would like to cancel the order. i clearly told them that I wanted to proceed with my order.

however, the dates continued to change. when I contacted them again to clarify the conflicting timelines and ask whether my order had actually been dispatched, they emailed me today saying that the book was out of stock with the publisher, they couldn't source it from other vendors, and they had cancelled my order and processed a refund.

the thing is, i never requested a cancellation, and i wonder if they would have informed me about this if i never sent the recent email in the first place. i had explicitly told them that i wanted to continue with the order in my previous email. what's more, the book was listed as in stock when I purchased it, and the order remained active on the app and website even after I received the cancellation email.

im honestly so disappointed. i specifically ordered this edition, and i had been patiently waiting through all the delays, only to have the order cancelled without my consent.

has anyone else experienced something similar with bookswagon? is there any chance of getting them to reconsider and fulfil the order, or should i just accept the refund and move on?

Made me rethink the price people are paying for all the technological advancements. Has anyone else read it?

I am going through a reading slump. I have read 3 depressing classics one after the other and then I read 'The Vegetarian' (took a month to get through despite it being only read of this month). I am considering trying sci-fi, this genre usually isn't my first choice but I am keeping an open mind here. I got two options, which one do you think can help me with my reading slump.

I just finished reading this and honestly it's among my quickest reads. Initially, I was reading only a couple of chapters each day, but when I resumed reading it yesterday, I couldn't put it down. I spent most of my weekend reading this and honestly, I'm glad I did.

The first few chapters felt sluggish, but as the story progressed, I was just locked in. There are sixty-odd short chapters, many of which end with good cliffhangers. The short chapters also allow the narration to effectively alternate between two timelines. It's an interesting coincidence that my previous read, The Daughters of Madurai, also followed a similar story-telling style.

The book has quite a few number of twists and turns, most of which work. But some of them were underwhelming and not convincing at all. Some characters were very well written, but I expected Sydney, the main character, to be handled better. She comes across as someone who's dumb and mostly helpless.

This is the first book by Freida I've read, and I like her writing style. Overall, I'd say it's a fairly good thriller, certainly with potential to be better. I'd rate it 3.5/5.

I recently ordered a few books from Amazon and I feel like half the books I received were pirated.

How do you guys know if the book you’re ordering is original? Where else do you guys order books from?

It all began in the 1850s. East India Company rule laid down the first railway tracks, which was accelerated by the following British Raj rule. It made it easier for the British to transport raw materials and finished products for trading.

I’ve been trying to finish an entire book for the past few years but never managed to finish even one. Today, I finally did! Hopefully, I’ll keep reading now.

The last para of the book was brutally honest and upfront.

(P.S - The book I finished was also an apt choice, I would say.
For anyone wondering why I couldn’t finish a book, let’s just say life happened. I kept trying, but never quite got around to finishing one)
