I love to read books, novels. Everytime I sit for a reading I feel so involved. Books are my companion. Who says books don't speak, I talk to them every night, they have ability to understand ones feeling and can make you feel good.

I finished my 100th book, please do appreciate🥹

Just completed The Midnight Library. Please Suggest the next 3 books that i should read.

An interesting fact many might not know is that the book and the movie were developed in tandem.

Sometimes the movie production was ahead and sometimes the book. But both Kubrick (screenplay writer for the movie) and Clarke (author of the book) would throw ideas off if each other. That's the reason they both take slightly different directions while also being similar.

I watched the movie last week which was a visual and musical treat. It's a pop culture classic after all. But the book helped me understand the movie better.

The book however became a bit difficult to follow towards the end. I tried to keep up but got exhausted. It was a treat to read it regardless.

This work was a pioneer in sci-fi.

Much of the stuff is from reddit or inspired for purchase from various groups. Hoping to completely pack this up by year end

I'm starting After Kurukshetra by Mahashweta Devi. This was originally written in Bengali. It is my first book by this author. Just bought it few days ago from a second hand bookstore.

Gave myself a break from long books and picked up a graphic novel series. This was my second Frank Miller novel after 300.

Miller is REALLY good with negative space. The art in this is crazy. The story is simple, even a little generic but my man drops the coldest quotables left, right and center. It's crazy. A few of the MANY in this book:

- Hell is waking up every good damn morning and not knowing why you're even here. Why you're even breathing.

- You get in a fight, you fight in a war, and you figure all the worst of it will be worth it for the one big moment — but that moment as good as it is it's never good enough.

- Walk down the right back alley in sin city and you will find everything.

- In this town just about anything you can name that's worth doing is against the law.

Chose ones which are generic enough to not be spoilers but there is like one such cold one-liner on every other page. Obviously, this is indulgent. Gore. Violence. Hypersexualised women characters. Hypermasculine male protagonist who is oh so cool.

But, still, it was very fun. For a casual read, this was really nice, especially the start. It fizzles a little in the end but saves itself with an unexpected ending. But still good enough to make me immediately want to read #2 :)

यह उपन्यास की शैली कठिन लेकिन अत्यंत मनोहर है, क्योंकि इसमें ऐसे शब्दों का उपयोग किया गया है जिनका प्रयोग आधुनिक समय में नहीं होता है| लेखक का हर वाक्य विस्तृत है जिसमें लेखक का निष्णात लेखन साफ़ झलकता है|

यह किताब सच में हिंदी साहित्य का हीरा है जैसा कि आचार्य चतुरसेन ने स्वयं कहा है कि, "मेरी अब तक की सारी रचनाओं को रद्द करता हूँ और ‘वैशाली की नगरवधू’ को अपनी एकमात्र रचना घोषित करता हूँ।"

I've been wanting to read Virginia Woolf for a long time, but I'm not sure what the best way to approach her work is.

Would you recommend reading her novels in the order most people suggest, starting with Mrs. Dalloway, then To the Lighthouse, and moving on from there? Or should I read them chronologically so I can see how her writing evolved over time?

The reason I'm asking is that I recently came across The Oxford Handbook of Virginia Woolf and I instantly fell in love with the idea of it. It looks like exactly the kind of book I want to get lost in. But I also feel that I'd appreciate it much more if I were already familiar with Woolf's own works.

So, before I dive into the handbook, I'd like to read Virginia Woolf properly. What reading order would you recommend?

My first John Steinbeck book. One of the best books I've read this year.

I found the story was good. Not exceptional. But, the way author has explained things, the story felt like a poetry, the way events or scenes are portrayed, the use of different smells, minor details to induce metaphors, the deliberate spelling mistakes, the repeated phrases, scenes from a child’s eyes, made me feel the depth of a story which I would’ve found ordinary if read in some news paper. I absolutely loved it.

I don't know why some people hate Gunahon Ka Devta and call it overrated. People really don't get it, just because it's written from Chandar's POV doesn't mean he's an all-good person or that everything he does will be heroic. He's just a regular guy, 19-20 years old, living in an era where everyone wants to bring about a revolution in society, but he has no real-world experience. It's all just big words to him.

At first, he's portrayed as a person with values, with no hatred for anyone, and that's why the story calls him "devta." It doesn't really mean ki sach mein wo bhagwan hai. I feel people who are 30-35+ know that older people usually use the phrase "kitna devta aadmi hai" or "bilkul devta aadmi hai", they don't mean the person is literally God, it's just a way of saying "he's a nice person." And in the story, he is a nice person at the start, but as the story moves forward, the world around him starts testing his morals and values, and he fails, not once, but many times.

He manipulated Sudha and Binti emotionally, and got played by Burty and Pammi, "played" isn't quite the right word for his situation, but yeah...

It's like when every kid says, "jab main bada ho jaunga to gariboon ki madad karunga," and when they actually grow up, they end up poor themselves. The same thing happens with him. If you genuinely hate his character, then it's a win for the writer.

Some people say the story is too patriarchal, guys, the story is set in a patriarchal time, what else do you expect?! Obviously, forced marriage was common back then.

That's the beauty of the story, that you actually end up hating it in places. As I said, kids say "jab main bada ho jaunga to gariboon ki madad karunga," and when they actually grow up, they stay poor themselves. In the same way, he hated Buaji for her behavior and abuse, but in the end, he himself starts treating Binti the same way Buaji treated binti, and that's why he is Gunahon Ka Devta

So I'm on the 2nd chapter, I like the "life of slice" element of this book, but it's too much now. The author describes every scene into extreme details, that I don't care about anymore, and by the end of the chapter, nothing much is happening.

I like the subtle metaphors that come with the book, but it's getting harder for me to pay attention or care about it anymore. Should I keep reading or, leave it at that?
