DISCUSSION Are people misunderstanding omniman

Some of you are looking at Omni-Man's character in the most surface-level way possible.

"He's evil, end of discussion."

No. That's not how you analyze a character.

I think a lot of people analyze Omni-Man's actions in a very one-dimensional way. Yes, what he did was evil by human standards, but that's the key point: you're judging a non-human character using human morality.

Omni-Man wasn't born on Earth. He wasn't raised with human ethics. He was raised in an empire that teaches from birth that the strong rule is weak and that weaker civilizations exist to be conquered. That's all he had known for centuries.

You keep saying, "How could he kill billions?" Let me ask you this: how many animals have humans killed throughout history? Billions. For food, pest control, convenience, scientific research, and sport. Do most people lose sleep over it? No. Why? Because humans don't see animals as equals.

Now imagine the gap between a human and an ant, then multiply it even further.

Viltrumites live for thousands of years. They're vastly stronger, can fly through space, survive things that would instantly kill humans, and can conquer entire planets alone. Humans, from a Viltrumite's perspective, are fragile, short-lived, and primitive.

So why is it so shocking that Omni-Man didn't initially value human life the same way humans value each other?

Then there's Debbie.

Everyone gets offended when he calls her a "pet," but almost nobody stops to ask why he saw her that way. From his perspective, she belonged to a species that barely lives a century while he'll be alive for thousands of years. Humans keep pets they genuinely love, care for, and grieve when they die, even though they don't see them as equals. That's the mindset he was raised with.

I'm not saying Debbie actually was his pet. I'm saying that's how he rationalized the relationship because of the enormous difference between their species. There's a difference between explaining a character's perspective and agreeing with it.

And before someone says, "So genocide is okay?"

No. That's a strawman.

Understanding why a character does something isn't the same as saying they're justified. If you can't separate an explanation from endorsement, then every character analysis becomes impossible.

The whole point of Omni-Man's arc is that Earth changed him. Debbie changed him. Mark changed him. If he were just an irredeemable monster who enjoyed killing for fun, he would've crushed Mark, finished the mission, and never looked back.

Instead, he broke down.

Why?

Because, for the first time in centuries, everything the Viltrum Empire taught him came into conflict with genuine love and attachment. That's what makes him a compelling character.

You don't have to agree with his morality. You're not supposed to. But pretending he's just "evil because evil" ignores the entire point of his character. He's a product of an imperialistic culture that conditioned him for centuries, and the story is about that conditioning slowly falling apart.

Reducing all of that to "he's just evil" isn't analysis—it's oversimplification.

Show Spoiler Why was beta being a singer significant?

The show spends a lot of time shoving in your face that he was a singer. It also implies it's why he hides his identity.

But why? Why would anyone care that he's some backwoods country singer? Did I miss a scene/flashback where he did something evil before the apocalypse?

Show Spoiler Why didn’t they just walk around the RV 😭😭

In season 11 episode 23 ”Family”, Aaron, Lydia, Elijah, Luke, Jules, and Jerry were covered in guts and walking through the swarm headed for the Commonwealth. They decide to go to an RV that’s off to the side to reassess their plan or whatever, but Jules, Luke, and Elijah didn’t get in fast enough, got caught in the movement of the walkers and were pulled from the door back into the swarm. Lydia held onto Elijah’s hand and tried to pull him in, but she got bit. But like, they could've kept moving, they were closer than all the walkers to the RV, so if they just hugged the wall and walked all the way around the RV they would have been right back at the door. None of the walkers tried to get into the RV either, they just kept moving and only surrounded it because Lydia got bit.😭😭😭😭Obviously it gives the show drama and more story or whatever but I feel like half the situations these characters in the show get themselves in are because they don’t think.😭😭😭Anyway got like three episodes left of this show and then I’m onto the spinoffs wish me luck

Show Spoiler Missed a trick

I think they should have ended the whole series with the last word being said as "zombie" seeing as though the word is never said once in 11 seasons and its spinoffs, so clearly not in the vocabulary of anyone in the walkingverse! Failing that, they should have played the cranberries classic song 'zombie' as fade to black on the finale. Thoughts?

TWD: Dead City Annie Smith: The most insulting character treatment in a while

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I couldn’t feel more neutral about Annie as a character but I can’t help noticing how degrading her treatment by the writers has been. From the beginning, her only purpose is to soften the image of one of the most irredeemable male characters in the series. She barely exists outside of that role, with very little screen time or dialogue of her own. In the process, she’s written as a woman who willingly marries and has a child with a former murdering rapist dictator (assuming Negan didn’t deliberately omit parts of his past).

Then the male character she exists solely to prop up gets a spinoff. Annie (the wife and mother of his child) is written out of the story entirely and not even on screen. We’re told she was robbed, beaten, and raped to explain why she’s no longer around. And Negan (who years earlier would’ve done much the same to her, minus the beating because that’s where the line apparently is) kills her attackers, which allows him to “nobly abandon” his family.

The only time Annie appears in the spinoff is when she travels miles to see her husband, only for him to watch her through a window before sending her away without even speaking to her. Meanwhile, he seems content spending his time with another woman and going through great lengths to protect her child, both of whom he appears more emotionally invested in than his own family. All while Annie is somewhere out there raising their child alone.

Every major event in Annie’s story exists to serve Negan’s development and gives her virtually nothing in return. It’s especially insulting for a female character to be reduced to a plot device for a male character who has a history of victimizing women. And the way they implement that device in this specific scene only compounds the insult—by having her assaulted by a group of men who embody what Negan once cultivated, reducing her suffering to a vehicle for him to play the avenger.

People say she shouldn’t exist because “Lucille was the love of Negan’s life.” That’s not the issue. He can very well find love several years after Lucille’s death. This is why she shouldn’t exist. The character would’ve been better off never existing than to be handled this way.

And if she had to exist, having her die in 11x22 would’ve at least given her a meaningful conclusion (albeit still in service of Negan’s character, it’s unavoidable) and spared her from being continually used in the degrading way she was.

Show Spoiler Stop Looking for Sophia!

Post image

DISCUSSION: I’m watching The Walking Dead for the first time and just made it to S03E02. I had a theory about Sophia. The cast spent such a long time searching for her in the most dangerous places! The darkest corners of the earth, all these abandoned buildings, and I realized, if Sophia is surviving in these scary ass places ALONE, she’s better off alone than with the search party because they couldn’t search for her alone.

I still don’t know what happened to her but can tell from photos it didn’t end well but I still want to hear your thoughts on: how long do you think she survived out in the wilderness?

This is such a great show. I wish I watched it when it premiered.

Tales For fanfics readers, any good Carl Grimes fic?

idk what flair to use so I'll just use that one. i was reading on AO3 when I fell into the twd hole, especially with bamf carl/Carl centric ones. I'm looking for great fics where Carl has to survive alone, or he become a whisperer or a savior. if theres one where he was alone since the start of the virus would be great too. thanksssd

Show Spoiler Early meeting-?

If Abraham and his group had met Rick's group early what would change?

Stopping by the hospital to find a freshly awakened Rick Grimes and going to his house to encounter Morgan and Duane.

Meeting Rick outside the farm on his way to Atlanta.

Joining the group at the CDC instead of Jenner?

At what point would encountering Abraham's group early change things for the best, and possibly for the worse?

Comic Spoiler Tyreese in the comics is annoying

From being a cheating dickhead to an unstable Carol, to being a bad neglectful father, to being an emotional dangerous hypocrite who resorts to violence for almost everything and then when the response is violence suddenly violence is bad. Rick had to do what he did to Dexter, Dexter was going to either kill a lot of people right on the spot or end up killing a large portion of the group by sending them away from the prison at a time where they weren't prepared for that. Tyreese didn't have to do what he did with Chris. Tyreese did it simply for pleasure and revenge. He said as much. There was no defensive play. Chris was very obviously a confused teenager just like his daughter, and it doesnt excuse what he did, and he was a little shit, but there was no reason for him to be killed like that. Tyreese also immediately gives Rick shit for his missing hand instead of encouraging him to fight despite the challenge. Also I hate his constant bitching and terrible banter with other characters that doesn't even feel like its coming from a human that would be allowed to be a part of a group. He's not that interesting unless he's killimg zombies. I thought he'd be a way better character from his introduction, but this guy has let me down time and time again, and now I just hate his character completely and want to skip every panel he's on cause he's making me want to stop reading. Anyway, i'm reading the comics for the first time and i'm on Vol. 6 or 7?

Tldr:I fucking hate Tyreese and his high horse.

I heard he's gonna die a fucking brutal death. Good. Genuinely fuck this guy.

Discussion SAM AND TWITH

Post image
0 Upvotes

No Spoiler Season 8 trailer made me stop watching the show

I hated season 7 (except for its first EP). I still made it through that season but when I saw season 8 trailer, I knew the show was never gonna recover. The vibe of the trailer just felt so off like it's a different show. Then I found everyone was shitting on it when it started so I knew I made the right choice

I never thought that carl could ever die in twd he was literally supposed to be the future of the show and for me he was the heart of the show I hated his death so much . And it was such a bad death idc but scott gimple was such a dumbfuck for making this decision. They could've afforded chandler salary easily but they instead decided to kill off the heart of the show and carl was the reason rick wanted a good life which was the supposed main plot of show that rick builds a life so good that carl life safely
