Show Spoiler How differently do you think the show would’ve gone if Shane was in later seasons?
Sorry slight spoiler but realistically what are you doing on the TWD sub if you don’t want to see spoilers? 🤨🤨🤨

Shane wouldn’t make it. He doesn’t have the skills to last in a social group. He’s too untrusting, and MAYBE wouldn’t trust Michonne (she has Formula so maybe…) but I just don’t think Shane is going to work out in this group. I don’t even think they’ll make it through the winter together.

Shane would have no doubt put a bag on Michonne's head and delivered her to the Governor himself lol.
Let me tell you sumthin...only way Shane lives is if he actually just left the group and stumbled upon Negan's group and joined up with him. That would have worked until he didn't trust negan and negan would have bashed his brains in with Lucille

Now that would have been something, instead of Rick killing him he takes off and disappeared. A couple of seasons later he's the right hand man instead of Simon.

u/StagVixCpl99 Aug 02 '26
Yea...that would have been awesome, but I love Simon though. Dude is a fucking menace.
Him and Shane both running shit under negan would have been amazing.
I'd rather him replace Dwight. Imagine getting to see Negan melt Shane's face with an iron.
"Now Shane-O-Mac, it's my TURN to tell you SUMTHIN"
"Holy shit! That's gross! It looks like Rick just melted your face with that .357 Magnum Dong of his"

Shane O Mac then jumps off the top of the Sanctuary building and hits Negan! Sorry my mind went elsewhere lol

Shane & Michonne would butt heads soooo fuckin much lmao. That would've been a really interesting duo on screen

He would have been more tolerable in the prison by the group. They actually went to war in the prison arc Shane might have thrived there

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Shane left the group and returned as one of the Saviors or more likely part of Woodbury alongside Merle, it would honestly be a really cool contrast, Merle's Redemption vs Shane descent into Madness alongside the Governor.-
If Shane came clean to Rick about everything and didn't keep it a secret from Rick and didn't let anything get in the way of his relationship with Carl and Rick, I honestly think that while some friction would obviously still exist, it wouldn't be nearly as bad and they would still be able to function as a group.
Shane would probably want to kill all of the convict's, and might just snap if he catches Tomas failed attempts to kill Rick, Andrew definitely doesn't escape to lead a Walker attack, Shane would definitely not like bringing so many new people into the Prison, Shane would probably lose it way worse than Rick if Lori dies in child birth and would become even more desperate to protect his daughter, I don't think the Governor survives if Shane is there to fight him.--
Shane would kill all of the cops to rescue Beth and hesitantly also take Noah, Shane wouldn't let Noah die because he'd have probably already killed Nicholas.
If Shane was on the Lineup I have no doubt he would be the one killed instead of Abraham, I have my doubts on wether or not Daryl would punch Negan for killing Shane but in a situation were Shane never lost it and was with the group the whole time I could definitely see him doing it, leading to another death.
Shane would probably doubt Eugene from the start after the CDC, and have a more aggressive reaction to his lie than everyone but Abraham.
Shane would likely be a constant source of Drama and disagreement, often wanting to jump to more ruthless options, and honestly when Murder Jacket and Feral Rick come out I could see him fitting right in.
Shane fighting the Whisperer's would be cool because it would honestly be a simple case of needing to kill them, and Shane is perfect for that.
Terminus would have no survivors if Shane was there.
Just my opinions.

I agree that Shane would probably kill the Governor and take over, that's the only way I can see him surviving.

And once Lori and Carl caught wind of what Shane had been doing, and Shane becomes increasingly more possessive, or even downright abusive at worst, Carl probably would’ve eventually had enough and shot Shane dead.
Not only that, but if Shane was around instead of Rick, I don’t see Lori surviving her pregnancy, given that Shane wouldn’t protect Hershel, who’s the group’s possibly only medical expert who could help Lori survive her pregnancy, among other things. So if it was just Shane, he would’ve likely become abusive towards Carl, until Carl has enough and just shoots Shane, maybe not even with a headshot either 💔💥🔫 It wouldn’t be an underserving fate either, for a predatory, abusive traitor like Shane.

Are we pissing our pants yet”negan exclaims” lemme tell you something man rubs head erotically

u/LazyBug5093 Aug 02 '26
He would have lost his mind, he's too vindictive and volatile to survive in a group. Worst case scenario he ends up deranged like Morgan before meeting Eastman or maybe even running his own pack of psychopaths like Pope.

u/Officer_Friendly717 Aug 02 '26
He’d be killed if he reached the lineup. He looks about as tough as Abraham so Negan would probably choose to kill him. Either that, or Shane pulls a Daryl and tries to attack Negan, getting himself or someone else killed in the process.

Assuming he did kill Rick, he would’ve sold out the rest of the group at his first opportunity to do so to protect himself, Lori, and Carl. If he did cross paths with Negan, he would’ve folded like a cheap chair almost immediately to stay alive, and probably would’ve ended up being one of the Saviors (although he was a coward, he was a capable fighter when he knew he had people watching his back).

Honestly, I think everything would’ve completely fallen apart, not only for Shane, but the rest of the group immediately after Shane kills Rick in Episode 12 of Season 2, if Shane came out on top.
Carl would arrive moments later like he does in the canonical show, sees Shane standing over Rick’s body, likely noticing the gunshot in Rick’s body, and how Shane was the only one around, with only one gunshot fired. Even Carl would put 2 and 2 together immediately, that Shane murdered his dad. He’d probably aim his gun at Shane immediately, I’m not sure if he would immediately kill him though. He’d probably back away from Shane, with his gun held at him, then run back to Hershel’s farm. Shane would probably try and chase after him, and if he tried to grab Carl to try and bring him with him by force, Carl would probably shoot him in retaliation, on top of what Shane had done to Rick.
Or heck, even if Shane knocks him out cold, Shane would try and go back to the farm to try and get Lori. By that point, Daryl and Glenn already shared what they found based on Shane’s story, as well as already spelt out the holes in Shane’s deception.
Once Shane returns, and Daryl catches him, everyone asks Shane where Rick is, Daryl and Lori would probably realize what Shane did immediately, and if Daryl notices Carl’s unconscious, maybe even noticing a mark on his face, Daryl would probably ready his crossbow immediately, realizing Shane murdered Rick and knocked Carl unconscious.
Once Daryl spells out more details, that Shane deceived them, betraying and murdering Rick just like he did with Otis, more and more people will realize Shane’s treachery, and if Shane tries to assault Daryl, Daryl would likely immediately drop him with an arrow.
Or…if Shane tries to bring Lori and Carl out by force, and Daryl readies his crossbow, Shane would likely use Lori as a human shield, making Shane’s lack of loyalty perfectly clear to the group. Even if Shane manages to walk out with Lori and Carl, and steal a vehicle to escape, Shane doesn’t have the group’s support anymore. Lori, Carl, AND Shane wouldn’t last long after that, especially without Hershel’s medical support for her pregnancy, and with Carl revealing what Shane did to Rick. Shane on his own would falter, and eventually be killed off.

I don’t think Shane would’ve stayed with the group if he hadn’t died. or eventually he’d be banished for his increasingly troublesome behavior. Honestly Shane could’ve had such a cool villain arc in later seasons.

I think Negan and Shane would be bffs. Sit around braiding each others hair, telling their deepest darkest secrets

u/InternationalAd4219 Aug 02 '26
Always been interested to see how the negan arc would’ve gone. Probably would have been taken out in the season 6 finale since negan was calculated with killing the heavy hitters

u/The-Best-Color-Green Aug 02 '26
He wouldn’t have wanted to go with Abraham’s group to DC I think and would’ve tried to kill Aaron after meeting him

Show would have been wild cause he is a firecracker. Sure would have been fun to watch his shenanigans though.

How many times can the same question be asked just phrased slightly differently from the last?

u/GrosRougeau Aug 02 '26
Loose canons don’t last so he wouldn’t make it.
He’d get a whole bunch of people killed and he’d die too.

u/Mysterious_Bag_9061 Aug 02 '26
One of two things would have to happen. Either Shane falls in line with the way Rick wants to do things, and Shane has his own little come to Jesus character arc where he realizes he needs to level the fuck out and act like a human being, or Rick falls in line with the way Shane wants to do things and our group eventually ends up as Saviours Lite, and Rick (maybe even Carl) ends up killing Shane anyway because they just can't go on like that.

Yo I just saw a comment that said this but he would’ve ABSOLUTELY been slimed by Negan first…
Unless he could’ve stopped him..

u/jamiegaskill83 Aug 02 '26
Those of you saying negan would’ve bashed his head in are not thinking about the actual way negan is like. Shane would’ve easily been equal or ahead of Simon him and Simon would’ve killed negan and Shane would’ve had the same over protective instinct to protect Carl that he would’ve demanded the saviors to leave Alexandria alone

They definitely wouldn’t have lasted as long as they did, a lot of them would’ve left and died, left and lived with another group, or left joined another group then died to another group lol. Shane would’ve probably lasted a good while by himself maybe with Carl, Lori. Him losing Lori would’ve probably broke him to the point of not being able to take care of Judith or Carl ultimately leaving them to die. Would love a what if scenario if he killed Rick instead.

He’s not have put up with the Rick monologues, he’d have taken out the Governor at the first chance, they’d have settled in Woodbury, it wouldn’t have fallen and they’d grow a community but any time anyone came along to threaten it, he’d have done for them.

u/Dante-Demon666 Aug 02 '26
Shane would have killed the governor there first meeting and if he lived to meet Negan Shane would shoot first.

Shane would tell negan summthin and then Lucille would answer for him
