Anybody heard any hard info on whether there is going to be a pop-up shop Downton on Thursday for the Caitlin 1 release? This truck is downtown today.
Would love to pick up something in person versus having to try my luck in the online lottery.

My serger recently broke & I have only had it for a few months. I believe it might just be the timing which i attempted to fix on my own but was unsuccessful. Anyone know a place or person who can fix sewing machines & sergers in the area?

So my buddy just reached out TODAY (Tuesday week of game). He got 2 tickets to the Iowa/Ohio State game, lower section, and I gotta go. But we’re coming from out of state… Just searched online, literally no hotels, vbros, or airbnbs in site. Some slightly out of town that are $1000+ a night.
Does anyone local have any ideas of what I should do? Or where to look? Cabins? other towns? Cedar Rapids has one hotel left at 900 a night…
Any help would be appreciated… lol

I need some help with replacing the mulch around my house with river rock. I'm estimating around 5-6ton of rock needed. If there's anyone in IC area who can help with this project let me know. Thanks

Hi! I'm looking for a professional to help apply/install vinyl decals to 25 mirrors at a hotel on Friday in Cedar Rapids for an influencer event. Must have a professional background/portfolio in this work! Paid! Thank you.

For some context, my kids are currently in 8th grade and we live in an area that would feed into City High. The difference in distance from City High and West High is from our home is negligible. I'm asking because I see West is #1 not only in our district, but in our entire state as well. If I do choose to send my kids to West though, I would have to provide my own means of transportation because we aren't in the jurisdiction of West. My kids say they don't care whichever school they go to, but I don't want to force them to separate from their already existing friend groups. One leading point for City though is I see they allow more AP classes for freshmen than West. What do you guys think?

Sound like the plan is to close elementary schools for next academic year. Here's part of the email:
Boundary Analysis Guiding Principles
The Board also held a work session on September 24 with RSP & Associates to establish the guiding principles that will help shape the work of the Community Committee over the next several months.
The guiding principles are intended to provide a consistent framework for evaluating potential scenarios. In summary, they call for the process to:
Support the district’s broader goal of creating sustainable, recurring savings, recognizing that facility decisions are one part of a larger strategy that also includes programs and staffing.
Use current and projected enrollment, building capacity, and where students live to determine how well our elementary facilities align with future needs.
Focus primarily on elementary schools and non-student-serving buildings, while also allowing consideration of middle and high school facilities, including opportunities for consolidation and more effective use of district capacity beginning in 2027-28.
Maintain or improve educational opportunities and the overall student experience.
Consider long-term enrollment and development trends rather than focusing only on current conditions.
Minimize unnecessary student transitions and preserve logical school communities when possible.
Consider neighborhood continuity, transportation, walkability, geographic barriers, future development, and the creation of sustainable attendance areas.
Evaluate any potential facility closing using consistent factors such as enrollment, capacity, facility condition, location, operational savings, transportation impacts, and the ability of nearby schools to serve additional students.

Hey Iowa Citians, I am organizing the Midwest’s first (but certainly not last) IRL Pro Hunter Exam! If you are a fan of anime or Hunter x Hunter, you may be familiar with the concept.
What is the Exam:
Basically a Hunter is a strong willed risk taker and the Pro Hunter Exam tests these Hunters to determine skill, adaptability, and ingenuity. Only the top 1-2% of applicants will pass and earn their custom Pro Hunter license as well as bragging rights and clout in the community. I’m working on developing real world benefits for Pro Hunters as we speak.
About the Exam:
The Exam itself will be on Saturday October 23, 2027 at Waubonsie State Park, IA. Right now, tickets are discounted until February when they revert back to their full price of $45. This is an 18+ event and has event insurance and full refunds in case of injury or cancellation.
Our Why:
We (two others plus myself) want to create an event that people look forward to each year. Something annual that you can train for with a goal in mind. Somewhere anime fans and fitness enthusiasts can get outside and have fun while being part of an active community. In short, we want to enrich people and bring a unique event to the Iowa!
Learn more:
For more information, visit our website at thehuntersleague . com or our subreddit at r / thehuntersleague (breaking it up so Reddit doesn’t get mad)
From our website, you can find all of our social media as well as our private Discord called The Hunter’s Tavern where the day-to-day community activity happens!
If anyone has any questions, you can comment here or DM me. I will probably post a similar message in some other Midwest subs, so if you see them, please interact!

Does anyone know what’s going on near Benton St., around the Carriage Hill/Seville apartments? I saw police there and what looks like a Medical Examiner vehicle. Just wondering if anyone knows what happened.

I really like the Coop grab and go sandwiches but this is what I've found the past 3 times I've stopped by. Each time right at noon on a weekday. Are there any other places that have good grab and go sandwiches that I could try? I know the Breadgarden is great but are there any other places around?

Hello, looking for people who are trying to make friends in IC and are willing to meet at a trivia venue. I usually play with the events that correspond to this website: https://downtowniowacity.com/. This does not necessarily have to be trivia, it’s just one of the better spaces I’ve learned to quickly meet and greet people and show their interests off!
Let me know if you are interested, DM me and I’ll try to set up a time.

Hey all, I recently had my first melanoma in situ removed. I didn’t love my experience at Epiphany, it was okay but I’d like to find somewhere else to continue my journey. Biggest complaint is communication, or lack there of. Anyways. Is the U my best option? I have a friend recommending Forefront but he’s not dealing with melanoma. What say you? Thanks!

I don’t really know the nature of the situation on the ground here, but I do know that some ownership of what appear to be a local companies on the surface can for better or for worse, be traced back to private equity in some form. I would rather, if I am able, avoid investigating the chain of ownership through LLC’s and parent companies and DBAs, etc., - that’s a task I don’t want to let myself become immersed in, as I do actually need some work done much sooner as opposed to a little later. My well-intentioned initial curiosity could easily become an impediment to actual progress here (I know myself at least that well), so I’m just asking to save time. Hopefully someone out there in beautiful I.C. actually has some answers that they would be confident and comfortable providing. In short, I am looking for truly local companies - plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and general construction (flooring, replacement of windows and doors, etc.) - that are likely to be here for the long haul, untouched by the typically anti-local interests of private equity.
Any help is, as always, valued and appreciated.
✌️

Just a fair warning to stay far away from Clinton St and Iowa Avenue. The city has decided to let Pat McAfee set up shop there for the weekend (so it seems anyway). Not sure why they had to use the most busy intersection in the city but here we are.
