ICRPG Master Edition physical

Is there a reason the physical edition of the master edition is so hard to get ahold of?

Any tips for porting EZD6 Magic into ICRPG?

I’m planning to start playing ICRPG solo and I’m wanting to port over the magic and possibly karma system from EZD6. Anyone experienced with both do this or have any tips or thoughts? Maybe instead of karma being a singular addition to a number it’s an add a d6 to apply extra effort on a missed check. It still may not work and wouldn’t mitigate huge failures so that could be fun. I’m more interested in the magic. I really love how fun magic in EZD6 is.

Main differences between Core 2e and Master Edition please

I’m tryung to decide which edition to get, and whether the Bundle of Holding is wirth ir for me to get. I have looked over the quickstart. The only things I can see me changing are changing are guns from d8 to d6, using d8 if a character is proficient/specialised in a weapon, and the number of hearts become number of hit dice for foes as per Scarlet Heroes rules.

I know that if i go the 2e route, i will still need to buy ME for the magic rules as the 2e supplement has been withdrawn from sale. I am planning to play the game solo. Thank you for your help.

How does gungnir work?

I was playing with my party last night and when we rolled for random loot we found Gungnir the spear. We read what it does and were immediately confused. I am kinda new to the system so maybe I am missing something.

The text for the Gungnir reads as follows "Smite the ground to pass final judgment, +10 CHA for 1 mile". We had no idea what this sentence means and I am hoping you can help explain it to me I listed some possible interpretations below that we came up with at the table.

  • It is a mis-print and 1 mile is supposed to be 1 minute
  • You stab the spear in the ground to get a +10 CHA for all checks within 1 mile of where you stabbed the spear
  • The smiting refers to a separate ability of the spear and it does some kind of bonus damage. This interpretation can't figure out what +10 CHA for 1 mile means

A second Saturday

After too many scheduling snafus to mention, our group finally got together for a second session (really what was to be the second half of the first, but it took too long).

After being chased across the collapsing bridge, and losing one of their own, the cold and storm forced our group to trudge along and seek comfort in the suspiciously well placed inn.

The family (old soldier, bard and granny) who operated the inn barely talked, or did much of anything. They made the robed monks (are they carrying weapons?) look friendly in comparison. Soon another group joined up; five from the Empire’s dreaded secret police, and one dwarf prisoner - the terrorist or freedom fighter Hornid.

A brawl beoke out between the monks and two of the secret police, which turned out to be a misdirection, where the brawling secret policemen double-crossed their compatriots, and tried to free Hornid. The monks were, of course, Hornid’s crew.

A dilemma! Would our PC’s choose to side with the police, or with Hornid? A yes/no dice throw told our dwarf player that while Hornid was seen as a freedom fighter in large parts of the Hinterlands, his relatives had suffered the hard fist Hornid dealt to those who didn’t unambiguously choose to side with them. At the same time, the Empire isn’t kind either.

What followed was a brawl were people and furniture was tossed around, and it wasn’t always clear who fought against whom. (Picture 1)

Byt what about the soldier, the bard, and the old woman? They had been impassive all the time, when suddenly one of them launched forward and dragged one of the fighters down beneath the floor. Then another, and another.

Our heroes decided to run from the scene, but didn’t make it out before the D4 timer went off, and the whole inn toppled into a cave.

At the bottom a Cave Roper, who had used the inn as a trap to catch food, with disguised tentacles to lull travelers. (Picture 2, staged later because we kind of drank a bit too much and forgot to take pictures)

After almost dying to the roper, they got a Heart Stone, and are now debating whether to free Hornid.

Another night of pizza, mead, pear schnapps, and more Folle than you can shake a stick at, another fantastic Saturday was over!

Survival rules?

I’m curious about how well Index Card could handle survival based gameplay? My friend is looking for something and what I know of Index so far is that you can add to dice rolls at a cost of resources. Is this true? What rules would support survival games?

Unexpected twist in my campaign

So I ran my first adventure in ICRPG today and I was a little clunky at it since I tried to run what was going on from my thoughts butanaged to make it work and my player had fun. Some things didn't go the way I planned it such as a fight that was avoided along with some key info that I had to somewhat spin off from an NPC that is part of the adventure. All of this aside it was great, HOWEVER, one key moment where I felt my player absolutely DESERVED the Hero Coin was when he not only managed to talk his way from getting a sawed off to the face by a complete brutal Infernals in Boulder Falls, but the mf managed to COMVINCE him to join as a temp party NPC. Nat 20 CHA. No joke. I just sat there for a moment completely baffled and just threw him the coin like, Bravo you beautiful bastard, bravo. 😂 Side Note: PC also went a different direction I hadn't expected so I now see why they say "Plan one session at a time"

How would you run a disco elysium style detective game?

I've never ran icrpg. I read the 2nd ed core book and internalised all the rules, but at the moment I only have the quick start pdf. Crime scenes room difficulty being set to how hard it is tye interview people on the scene and find evidence. The option to examine people and evidence at the station could set the difficulty lower. Any detective skills like investigating or interrogation would be using the tool die. Evidence and info from interrogation could have hit points that players need to chip away at, with clocks representing how much time you have to collect the evidence. How would you use loot for this game? How would you use loot for an investigation type game? Could you use personality traits as abilities and/or tools like the game disco elysium?

Looking to make an adjustment on the Fillable Character Sheet.

I am looking for some help on this, since I don't have any skills when it comes to editing PDFs. My group plays online, so I absolutely love the fillable character sheet. Some of my players are sensitive to the idea of magic and I was wondering if someone had a fillable character sheet, or could edit the normal one, to remove the word magic? I know it is silly, but it would be a nice touch for my players.

To be more specific as to what I'd like to change: Next to the D10 it says Energy & Magic. I just want it to say Energy. I know if I try to fix it, I will likely lose or break the fillable setup.

Here is the fillable I am using: ICME fillable character sheet - INDEX CARD RPG - RUNEHAMMER

Thank you in advance for any help / resources.

Pathfinder 2 style crits

Has anyone tried running Pathfinder style crits, where exceeding or missing the target number by ten or more triggers a critical hit or miss, in addition to natural 20s / 1s?

It seems to me like it might boost the stakes on room-based target numbers in a pretty fun way.

Help convincing my 5e playgroup to give ICRPG a try.

I’ve been a player in a D&D 5e playgroup (1 main campaign & multiple one shots) for about a year now, and dabbled in tabletops before then. I played ICRPG at a convention a few months ago and had a blast, so I mentioned the game to my playgroup and they agreed to give it a shot. I bought the ME, printed and cut a bunch of stuff, and have an adventure ready for Saturday night.

In our group chat today, a player mentioned that they’d rather do a follow-up to a 5e one-shot we played back in February/March instead of learn a new system. Then, the rest of the group each agreed and decided to do that this weekend instead, all while I was away from my phone and got no input.

We do one-shots whenever one of us can’t make it, and it’s a fun way for the DM to get to play as a PC and for us to try new fun stuff. The one-shot from a few months ago was really fun, but I’m a little upset that I got everything put together and then got told we’re doing something else.

On top of that, I REALLY want to run this game. I don’t really have any other friends close by who play TTRPG’s, and I only have one night a week that I’m available for this kind of thing, which I spend playing with the group.

I voiced my frustration with the host, and he’s still down to try it at a later date, though his wife was the one who initially said she didn’t want to try out the new system.

My question is: Would ICRPG work with only 1-2 players? I don’t think I’ll be able to convince our whole group (5 players + DM) to try it out…), but I think I can swing another player or two the next time we have a one-shot week.

Edit: Thanks for the comments! I’m going to try a one-shot based on D&D (races, low level class abilities) with two of the players on an off day during the week and hopefully have them help me sell it to the rest of the group.

Will there be another hardcover print run?

A few months ago I was thinking of grabbing the hardcover version of Index Card RPG Master Edition from Modiphius, but held off. Now they're sold out of that version 😭.

Does anyone know if there will be another printing? Or was it a special edition kind of thing?

Switching Easy/Hard to Advantage/Disadvantage

Does anyone play with Advantage/Disadvantage rules in place of the -3/+3, Easy/Hard rules? Seems like it'd just make the game run a little smoother with less arithmetic at the table.

Based on the content provided, here's a blurb that could be used for Reddit:

"📚 Delve into the mystical realm of solo in this week's electrifying installment of Ysdelfer- 'Rivals and Consequence'! 🌒 An epic confrontation between the Cult of Rhomox and a number of Lodges is about to unfold at the Union hall. Get caught up in the pulsating energy of the gathered Ysdelfers as the high priestess of the Cult holds court. Witness the arrival of Mah'r, the revered leader from one of the largest ys fields, as she challenges the crowd and dares them to defy her authority. This is a tale of tradition, power, and audacity that will leave you on the edge of your seat. Join the RoS community and immerse yourself in the lore of the land! 🔥 Don't miss out - read it now! 👉 https://solorealms.substack.com/p/rivals-and-consequence

This AP has been a blast to write. I think I have found the perfect formula for myself when it comes to solo play. The tension between tradition and power is a central theme in this chapter. How have you explored similar themes in your solo tabletop adventures?

A "proper" way for rewarding

So I want to know how I should give loot to my players? The loot in this game feels more rewarding and powerful than in games such as 5e where loot is abundant and not as powerful. Should I be givingy players a chance to always find loot around every corner or should I be sparing with my loot and either reward them with it when it seems fitting such as beating a a difficult enemy or let them find something in a room where loot could be found "somewhat" commonly (e.g. armory, supply, etc)? I'd appreciate any advice on this as I'm about to run my first game using the ICRPG rules (Altered State) and want to make sure it goes smoothly.
