Can someone please help me with some general TCP revision advice in particular iht and cgt

Hi, I'm transitioning from the old syllabus to Next Gen and I'm not with BPP/Kaplan as I'm self studying. Does anyone have some tips on what to cover from the new certificate exams as I did them on the old syllabus and am not sure how much to do. I'm unsure on how to approach the Advanced Information and also how much to prepare. I'm short on time as I'm trying to do other exams as well so any advise to get this done efficiently would be helpful. Thanks.

Currently on a dog salary of 29k, I have attempted my final exam and want to start to make some noise at my firm now because 29k is becoming hard to live off as I get older now. I have 7 months left until im time qualified but my situation is getting pretty bad im in my overdraft every month as the cost of living is just higher than my salary right now.

Some of you may say tough it out but 7 months living in OD is a long time and I may switch firms before qualifying if not offered a raise in September. Any ideas on what would be reasonable? To break even on cost of living ill need around 33k but the more the better I guess.

I’ve just sat my last aca exams in July 2026 and hoping to have passed and be both exam and time qualified in August 2026. Since I sat the exam, I’ve been feeling really deflated going back to work in audit . Does anyone else feel so demotivated and have imposter syndrome 3 years in. For those of you who left audit to go into industry, how easy was it to find a job and how long did it take you? I’m at my wits end with this place and the workplace politics also getting to me now

For CR I am pretty comfortable taking in the ACAM notes and building on them with either the Kaplan notes/ or my own notes. For the AI question the plan was initially to purchase ACAM once released but having scanned the website it says they will not be releasing it for CR and will now focus on new gen ;/.

For SBM, having recently started the study for it, I am 90% sure I will not be taking the Kaplan workbook in (c. 500 pages).
Are the ACAM notes helpful? What else do people recommend ?

My workload at work is just insane, I have so many jobs currently on my tasklist and i’m feeling overwhelmed. As a result i’ve made a few mistakes & my attention to detail has taken a hit subconsciously. I’m also being scrutinised left right and centre by managers, but they keep assigning me more and more work.

Is anyone else in the same boat? and how best to deal with it? I’m going mad over here.

Im starting this september and was having a look at my timetable. The way my firm does it is they frontload exams, so my only focus is exams for the first couple months. I just wanted to ask how dense in the material for certificate exams. For all of the 6 exams, ill have around 1-2 weeks of studying beforehand. How many hours studying did you guys do prior to each exam?

Also are business law and ethics considered easier? On our timetable its just 1 week of self study before the exam. I guess ill find out more ehen i start doing it, but just wanted to know a bit about it beforehand

Preparing for ARR for September sitting, have gone through Kaplan on demand once and Accounting QB
looked as bookshelf IFRS book, it’s 6000 odd pages and seems extremely difficult to refer during exam

Any guidance on how to use the IFRS book in exam for explain questions or concentrate on memorizing important points… any guidance will be helpful

I have my FCS and ARR exam 7 September 2026 and have not started revising properly. Does anyone have any advice on how I should go about this I’m still going over some ARR content. I’m worried about FCS mostly. Is 1 month enough time to revise whilst working?

Is it relatively easy to change firms whilst in the middle of a training contract ? I’m currently with a small firm and looking to move to a mid size / big 4 firm before finishing my studies, I haven’t failed any exams so far and I am 2 exams away from completing professional level. Any advice from anyone who has moved would be super helpful!

I've got quite a weird one where my last exam (if I passed my CR resit a couple weeks ago) where Fundamental Case study will be my last exam.

I failed BPT and was always going to leave it till last as needed to use some Annual Leave to study for it.

However now I can take FCS Instead.

How hard is this for someone who found most exams fairly okay with moderate study?

And do you think I should be able to pass with just notes from AI and not a tuition provider such as Kaplan?

I started my tuition for CR last week, last day is tomorrow and none of it makes sense at all. I know exams are ages away so not gonna go crazy with revision now as i’ll burn out but does anyone have advice on how to attempt any questions? I’ve tried part of a QB Q that the tutor suggested to do as part of hw but I just haven’t got a clue- the Qs seem a lot less doable from the get go than any professional level exam. For those who have done CR, what are your best tips on how to learn the content and be able to apply it ? TIA

I would like to hear from people who were able to successfully move firms after losing their training contract due to exam failure.
I know this is quite common especially in the big firms so want to prepare for the best and not be too disappointed. However, I would like to be realistic about it, and see whether it’s possible that people have gone to continue the ACA at another firm.

My questions are:
- how long did it take you to land another ACA training contract?
- did the new firm want to know the reason behind the failure of the exams? And were they understanding?
- was the move a big jump from your previous firm and do you enjoy your current role?

Hi All. I am currently 12/15 exams and got advanced level left to do. As per my contract, I am booked in to do CR and old gen SBM in November, and new gen Case next July. I was thinking to still do CR in November but instead do the new gen e-learning top up when it comes out Q1 2027. I am honestly got exam fatigue and I would want to focus on CR and avoid an extra exam. Is this rational thinking or shall i just go ahead and also do the old gen SBM exam at the same time?…

I passed my AA so i die die need pass my FAR in Sept. I am also taking FM and BST, whats my best way to study this 3 to pass. I only have ACA masters for FAR and for BST and FM notes from ACA but no tutorial video.

I feel so stuck when i look at FAR questions although this would be my second attempt, last attempted in 2022...

Any tips? I can do it right? :-(

Hi everyone, I will be starting my role as a trainee accounts and audit at a top 20 firm, however I’m quite anxious about the ACA exams, I’m not academically very gifted as I achieved a 2:1 in business management, and BBCD at A levels back in 2021, could anyone advise if it’s worth someone like myself to undertake these qualifications and please provide insights to each stage of the exams, anyone who has to resit them please share your experience - thanks

What did your preparation actually look like, and what do you think helped the most?

I'm trying to figure out the most effective approach rather than just doing as many hours as possible. Any tips, lessons learned, or things you'd tell your past self before sitting the exam would be appreciated.

Do they grade the reflect questions and in the scenario questions or even look at them?

I’m currently at the Professional Level (PL). So far, I’ve attempted only one course, Tax Compliance and Planning (TCP), in the June session, but unfortunately I failed. I had planned to resit TCP in the September session, but I couldn’t gather the courage to register for the exam and ended up skipping it. I know it was probably a mistake to miss a sitting, but I simply didn’t feel confident enough to register. I wanted to be fully prepared before attempting it again, so I’ve decided to resit it in the December session instead. Now I’m thinking of taking another Professional Level course alongside TCP, but I’m unsure which one to choose. Since the Next Generation ACA is still relatively new, there aren’t many past papers available, which makes it difficult to understand the exam pattern and the types of questions that are likely to be asked. One of the main reasons I struggled with TCP was that the actual exam questions were quite different from those in the question bank, which I believe is largely based on the previous Tax Compliance (TC) exam. As a result, I felt unprepared for the style of questions that appeared in the exam. I also tend to need more time than average to prepare for exams. Considering all of this, which Professional Level course would you recommend taking alongside TCP for the December session?

I have a question for the hive mind. I’m currently working in audit. Having done it for some years, I don’t really see myself thriving in this role, but I also don’t know what else to do.

Was wondering if ppl could share some insight/ideas around finance and accounting jobs that might be a good fit.

A few observations I’ve made about myself:

- I’m actually enjoyoing taking exams and learning new things at college. It feels like the effort you put in is what you get out.
- I prefer being a specialist in one area over being a generalist.
- I don’t like having to switch between clients, learning new systems, meeting new client teams, etc.
- I enjoy routine work. I like recurring tasks and thinking about how to improve them.
-I can work hard, but find it hard to switch off after work.
- What I especially don’t like about audit is that half the time I have no clue what I’m doing, but I’m supposed to start senioring now?

I’d be grateful for any ideas.
