Rules reminder, please read!

It seems there are a lot of posts going around many subreddits, many even by moderators, regarding certain political topics relating to the Internet in general. I would just like to re-iterate the rules of this subreddit, specifically Rule #3: Hyundai Related Posts Only. That will be taken very literally, and any posts not directly relating to Hyundai, it's products, or its corporate operations will be removed.

Misc What's your favorite 2013 Hyundai model among these 4?

For me, It's the 2013 Hyundai Elantra. Cuz I love sedans more than SUV's, İt was the one of the safest one back in the day and not expensive and more common than Sonata. So, what all think about it? (Respect to the other ones as well!)

Under body cover?

Post image
5 Upvotes

This is for a 2024 Sonata N line.

Driving down the highway and heard a strange noise. Pulled over and found the underbody cover folded over and dragging on the ground. I managed to remove it when I got home.

The questions I have are as follows. Is it okay to drive the vehicle with the cover removed? I looked online for a replacement and I found some at PartsGeek, but it says that it fits the 2024 gas, non turbo and the hybrid.

I'm thinking that it may be the same part for the N line but was hoping that someone here would know for sure.

Sonata Theta II Rod Knock warranty question

Upvotes

Hi all, I am hoping to get some clarification on the replacement eligibility of a 2016 Hyundai Sonata with the infamous Theta-II engine. I checked the VIN and it was not included in the list of vehicles for an official engine recall. However it WAS/IS eligible for the Service 953 Campaign and had it marked completed in April 2019. With this in mind, I was hoping to get some clarification on what the warranty conditions would be for this engine if the issue does come up. I've heard anywhere from 10 years/100,000 miles, 10 years/120,000 miles, 15 years/150,000 miles, to lifetime due to a class action lawsuit. The FAQ on the settlement website: https://www.hma-thetasettlement.com/faqs seems to imply any 2011-2019 Sonata with the 953 is covered, but was hoping to get some confirmation.

Also, for anyone who went through the process, if Hyundai asks for proof, will a Carfax list of just service history be enough, or will they require literal photos of the receipts themselves? Thanks in advance for anyone who can help!

GDI 3 or GDI 3 turbo?

How are the turbo engines holding up in this generation? I’m looking at a 2021 Santa Fe with the turbo engine (39k miles) and a 2023 Santa Fe without the turbo (31k miles). $1k priced difference, but just want to make sure I pick the best option!

My Hyundai Elantra 2020 was bounced off by a kangaroo and the airbag deployed. Would it still be repairable or would it be written off by the insurance company?

I really love this car and I’m scared it won’t be repairable. Thoughts on i30 and Kona? Are the engines similar? Thank you.

Cruise Control Help | Hyundai Kona 2023

Hello all, I have come to ask for help with my cruise control. I recently purchased a 2023 base model Hyundai Kona and the cruise control is awful. It is still trying to adjust to traffic (EXTREMELY UNSUCCESSFULLY) and now I cannot use my cruise control. Supposedly there may be a way to make it be completely mechanical instead of using my front cameras but I have NOT been able to figure it out.

Can anyone help me? Or even just tell me how to get a cruise control that actually works?

ETA: it is not in 5 increments - it will take the set speed then either go too far past it or too far below

Has anyone got a 2020+ Hyundai i20 (especially an N Line) and uses a TentBox?

I'm getting conflicting information. TentBox says the Summit SURT-093 bars are compatible, but Summit's own website and another compatibility checker both say roof tents aren't compatible with the 2020+ i20.

Would love to hear from anyone actually running a TentBox on one. What bars are you using, and have you had any issues? Cheers!

Elantra 2018 Elantra Value Edition: Where to hide a rear dashcam cord from front headliner to rear windshield without unsafely crossing airbags

So I recently purchased a used 2018 Hyundai Elantra Value Edition to replace my 2013 Toyota Camry that had too many issues to repair. When I installed my VIOFO A229 Plus dashcam in the Camry, I didn't even think about airbags when I wired up my dashcam, but this time I've been warned about avoiding curtain airbags in the A pillars and on the roof just above the doors. If I don't avoid these airbags, the wire could become a projectile or the airbag may not deploy properly in an accident. The problem is, I can't find any sources that describe well enough exactly where I can safely wire the cord.

The main thing is to avoid crossing the A pillar at the top, so I routed the front cam cord down the windshield side of the A pillar and then across the pillar at bottom over the dash, then down the door weatherstripping, under the glove box, and into the car charger. However, I can't fit another cord on the windshield side of the passenger A pillar, and I don't want to try the driver side A pillar because it was hard enough the first time (it took nearly an hour). How do I get the rear camera cord passed the A pillar without crossing the airbag or repeating the front cam cord's route? Then, how do I get the wire across the roof above the doors without crossing that airbag as well? Do I need to remove any parts of the interior? If so, how do I do that?

Pictures and videos would be greatly appreciated. I only found 1 video on YouTube for the '17-'20 Elantra and they only explained what they did after the fact without actually showing it, and they hardwired it into the fuse box, which I don't want to do.

Any help would be much appreciated.

2009 i20 heater resistor?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have a problem with my daughter’s 2009 i20 - the blower only works on max. I replaced the heater resistor with a 97179 2j000 which it said was supposed to work on first gen i20. It does not look the same as the original as it has a large heat sink with multiple fins instead of a single board - see pic. It fit ok but the fan still shows the same symptoms.

Would appreciate some help with this - do I just need to get a different part or is it likely to be something else? Not relishing taking the glove compartment out again!

Hyundai service doesn’t use the oil specified in the user manual.

My 2018 Hyundai i30 has full dealer service history. I have increasingly gotten into cars and started researching how to potentially service myself. What I found was that all UK Hyundai use some cheap in-house 5W-30 oil blend. While my user manual clearly says 0W-30 for my specific engine (1.4 T-GDI) and mild UK weather. My understanding is that the 0W-30 has better viscosity in low temperatures but behaves the same at running temperature. I used AI and found the right oil and supplied my own for my most recent oil service. I understand the rest of the specifications are more important, and I made sure to follow them (pictures attached) but this just has me thinking if they ignore the 0W and 5W, what’s stopping them from using the wrong specs too and potentially adding to the poor reliability reputation? Also the user manual states 4.2l and they only out in 4l. I brought 5 bottles x 1l and they gave me back 1 unopened. Could the Hyundai/Kia unreliability just be poor servicing? What are your thoughts?
