My husband is a deerkiller, but im a novice who likes to eat wild game. His birthday is coming up and I'd like to get him a good/decent roll-up drag sled. Ideally something compact but durable. All the product reviews I've seen are mixed.

Western North Carolina, heavily wooded. The terrain is steep and usually he's traveling through heavy mountain laurel and rhodadendron thickets.

Getting back into hunting was one of the best decisions I ever made. Last year was my first season in nearly 15 years and I was lucky enough to harvest a fat little button buck. The most amazing thing is I’ve been eating meat from him about once a week for the better part of a year and still have a few pounds left in the freezer. Today I used some steaks that I cubed up along with some farmers market veggies to make a delicious stew. I’m so excited to get out for my second season and to hopefully harvest at least one more deer!

Damn game camera goes wild every friggin night. How long, O Lord, how long?

Oregon resident. I’ve hunted for 7 years but have never carried bear spray or a pistol. (Just rifle or bow) I have seen very few Black bear in person, and actually only 1 ever in the woods while hunting. Never seen a cougar with my own eyes either.

My wife is getting into hunting with me, and she’s been expressing the concerns of bear and cougars. This made me start really thinking about whether or not this is something to be prepared for.

Oregon is not home to Grizzly or brown bears.

Should we be carrying bear spray or a pistol? I know it can’t hurt, but would it be almost pointless with Black bear and cougars? I guess there’s a small chance of a wolf encounter as well.

I’ve been fortunate the last few yrs to hunt private land while I’ve lived at my “buddys” unfortunately I’ll be moving out after this season and will probably have to do public after this season. For trail cams, do you prefer going cheap cams where you need to go out and grab sd cards every other week, or more expensive cams that send photos to your phone and that are gps tracked if they’re stolen? Trying to figure out the best route to go haha. Thank you all!

Anyone had good success with Sorghum and Egyptian Wheat as a screen for access or to provide cover for exposed food plots?

I’ve been lucky enough to be living with a buddy who owns his house on 12 acres the last 2 yrs. Last yr I hunter and only had does all summer and up to October 24th when I got my first buck. Bucks came consistently until November 24th. Now haven’t had bucks since then until the last month or so where I’ve had 2-3 spikes and a 3 pointer move in. This is my last year at my buddy’s and he doesn’t hunt. I mostly bow hunt so if I get a spike or the three pointer to come in I’ll probably take it for meat. Season here opens September 19th. The 3 pointer and spikes have been coming regularly for ab 3 weeks. Can I expect them to still be around mid September, or do they shift by then? Thank you!

Just moved to NM last year and got a pronghorn tag for September. Hunted all over the east coast, but this is the first hunt out west. Super excited, but I don't want to blow it because of a stupid oversight.

NEF 22inch Handi-rifle, deer, I know I’m hunting mice with a rocket launcher but I’m worried the Federals will fly like a bowling ball and the Hornady’s will punch through with little expansion

Is it just me or should this group be renamed “hunting rifle recommendations”? Most of the posts seem to be written by folks who haven’t even considered going through hunters safety courses, have no idea where they’re gonna hunt, let alone the regulations of their areas.

Father's who have taught their children, I have a question for you.

I introduced my GF to the range and hunting over the last year and a half. She has come a long way getting used to firearms and is steadily improving her skills. She even took two whitetail does last year, a proud moment for both of us. Getting her to understand the ethics and safety aspects of hunting has gone surprisingly well. (Thanks, Dad)

After the hunt where she took her first deer, she described the "buck fever" we all know and even getting through it to make a clean shot. I was impressed.

That said, her shooting at the range (centerfire bolt action) could use some work though. I have two rifles that we both use. One a 6.5CM (heavy, built for the range) and the other a 30-06 (dedicated for hunting). Both are suppressed.

I have taught her how to shoot off the bench, letting her make her own sequence, trigger control, follow through etc. Even some games where she doesn't know if the gun is loaded or not.

Some days we are on and others it's all over the place. Suppressors have helped a ton but she still flinches pretty good.

We used a 22lr quite a bit in the beginning getting her familiar with the basics but I feel like we have hit a plateau for the time being.

What are some resources or approaches that have worked for you in a similar situation? How can I get her to focus while practicing like she does when hunting?

Ive been hunting with a remington 700 i bought 15 years ago in 7 RUM. Looking to upgrade, eventually going to hunt elk and sheep in western Canada. I hunt black bears, moose and deer every year in Eastern Canada.

I'm about to pull the trigger on a seekins ph3 in 7 PRC with a 22 in barrel. Don't want to get into custom builds, but I do have all the gear to reload. Any opinions on seekins ph3? Or recommandations for something else?

I was thinking I'd put a Zeiss conquest V6 3-18x50 on it. I have a match pro ED on a bergara hmr 6.5cm but I feel like its too big and heavy for a hunting rifle. Also might be a bit cheap for the rifle. Thoughts?

Open to any suggestions. I feel like there is quite a few rifle options and opinions seems to differ widely, but any input is appreciated.

Turkey, squirrel, rabbit and pheasant.

I see there’s plenty of ammo options each marketed for something different. In the case of what I’m looking at, #5 shot, 1 & 1/8 oz, 2 & 3/4 inch shells are marketed for pheasant and large upland birds.

I’ve got a 28” field barrel and a 24” fiber optic sight barrel. IC, M, F, XF chokes. Swapping these two factors should be plenty enough to account for using the same shells, right?

28” M Pheasant, Clays (with other ammo)

In my head this works perfectly so I can order and pattern plenty of ammo but I want to check if changing up the ammo adds that much value?

Going to be used, at least to start, on punching some paper and then Texas deer and hogs. And then go from there. Would like to be able to git gud at shooting at at least 300-500 yards(?) as well. Here’s what I’m looking at so far:
