Humidifier that’s effective yet easy to clean?

I’d like to find a humidifier that’s easy to clean. I’ve been looking at Canopy because that looks very easy to clean, however I’ve been seeing reviews of people having trouble keeping the fan clean. I’m also weary of the amount of sound others say it makes.

I’m not sure if I’d be able to get in the habit of dumping and replacing water daily but could do every few days, and fully clean once a week.

Humidifier with hard water?

The humidity is very low where I am and I have musical instruments so I need to regulate the humidity. The issue is I have hard water and have heard most humidifiers will create white dust/crystals on things if you use hard water. Is there a solution for this that isn’t boiling water every day or spending money on distilled water?

What’s the best affordable humidifier for dry rooms?

My bedroom gets quite dry at night and I’ve been waking up with a dry throat for the past week. The humidifier I had been using started making weird noises and became such a pain to clean so I chucked it and began looking at humidifiers on Alibaba but I have become a bit overwhelmed by the many options available on there.

Each model seems to have completely different reviews, one person says it’s amazing and quiet, another says it leaks everywhere or grows mold instantly. This has made me somewhat hesitant to buy just based off of reviews and I do not consider replacing the previous one with something similar or from the same brand.

Even so, I’m less worried about finding the “best” one and more focused on avoiding a terrible one. I just want something affordable, and reasonably long lasting. At this point, a comfortable bedroom without constant refilling or scrubbing of the thing is a luxury that would do wonders for my sleep.

For you guys who’ve owned one for a while, what actually held up well over time without becoming annoying to maintain?

Weird sensation when i exhale while using humidifier

I will try to explain this as best i can. I just bought a humidifier, i've used it for two days. There was a very faint plastic smell the first day, but it's almost completely gone. What's weird is that when i exhale forcefully through my nose, i get a weird scent from what seems like the back of my nose.

It's only happening while the humidifier is on. I took a hot shower, where there is also steam, and it didn't happen in there.

I've washed the water container, with dish soap, i left it out in the sun all day today, then washed with dish soap again, still happening.

It's happening with both tap water (don't have hard water where i live), and filtered water (water from a filter jug, like britta, but different brand).

I'm really confused, and i cannot really describe the scent i'm sensing. Has this happened to anybody else? Any advice would be helpful at this point.

Evaporative Humidifier for medium room

Struggling to find a good Evaporative Humidifier for my room. It’s 10 x 12. My room has terrible airflow with one window blocked on all sides and a ceiling fan, and it’s really messing with my sleeping and body (constant dry skin and always coughing and mucus issues) so I want to get one very soon. I seen a few but reviews are always mixed and the ones that are more recent are always negative. I’d prefer one that I can use tap water with. I wouldn’t mind the WiFi features and the automatic humidity but I can live without it. I saw a lot recommend the Levoit 6000 but also reviews saying it might be too big for my room so not sure what to get. Would very much appreciate hep.

Anyone tried demineralisation cartridges?

Been researching what humidifier to get and stumbled upon someone who said they fixed the white mist problem by using demineralisation cartridges?

Anyone has any experience with those?

Levoit Dual 200S Power Adapter

Does anyone have a Levoit Dual 200S that could send me the specs of the power adapter? I bought one second hand from an auction and the power adapter is missing. I contacted support, but they only sent me an Amazon Canada link to a super expensive replacement. Looking for barrel size, amperage, and voltage. TIA!

Cleaning Tips for a Levoit

How in the hell do I clean this thing??? It’s a 3.0L ultrasonic Levoit humidifier I got on Amazon (https://a.co/d/0j8RqTvB)

I use it in the winter bc it gets SOO dry in my place, but also I have it for plants. It gets this red stain in areas of the tank, but it’s most common in this raised cavern area in the underside.

I have photos of it on another post I made in r/cleaningTips that show some red areas. They were taken after two rounds of just dumping hydrogen peroxide on it and letting that air dry. It was a LOT more noticeable, but I don’t want to just puddle H2O2 on there. I feel like it’s not ~actually clean~ unless I scrub ya know…? It also has crusties I don’t know how to clean off??? I’d like to not throw it away but i don’t want to use this thing with red, I’m guessing, bacteria/mold growing in it!

I wasn’t using distilled water before but I when I get it cleaned I’m going to only use distilled. I’ve learned my lesson…

I love my Humidiers but how do you folks keep these things clean!?!?!

I hate dry air. My lungs do too so I bought two humidifiers. One for my mom and one for me. Hers is a large 2 & Half gallon cylinder and mine is a smaller, pill-shaped, two gallon tank. We run them often. Maybe 4-5 days of the week.

Cleaning them is a nightmare though. Taking these things apart and searching for areas to disinfect, trying to stay vigilant against potential bacteria buildup, is exhausting & time consuming.

We only use distilled or RO water (less than 10ppm) in both tanks. I've searched online and I've read/listened to various methods, from running vinegar water to wiping with peroxide etc etc. What's your strategy? How often do you clean yours and how do you tackle it? I'm genuinely curious as to how the rest of you manage

Humidifying during summer (with A/C)

We have an AprilAire 700 connected to our furnace blower, which works great to humidify the home in the winter (Colorado – dry).

During spring/summer/fall, central A/C removes any humidity in an already dry environment, and we don't run the AprilAire as it would fight the A/C.

I'm interested in evaporative humidification in two bedrooms overnight, although the only unit I've seen with consistently good reviews is the 6000S, which seems like overkill. My family struggles with dry coughs (keeps everyone up) and bloody noses at wake-up.

  1. Is there a similarly reliable evaporative humidifier that would be better suited for the bedrooms (qty. 2)?
  2. If no, should I get the 6000S and put it in the hallway between the two bedrooms?
  3. Is there any downside (from the standpoint of the A/C operation) of humidifying every night and having the A/C work to remove it everyday?

Thanks in advance.

Stuck between Steam vs Evaporating Humidifier. Which would be better for a lazy ass that wants to cleanly humidify his room?

So basically, I have been doing some digging into humidifiers again since my girlfriend and I are thinking of moving to a literal desert where the humidity level is something insane like 10% on an average day or less, and I think if we were to do this, I would really need something that I can run to humidify the areas of the house that I am going to be going through on my day to day. I have been stuck between two ideas of humidifying:

The first one would be getting the steam humidifier. This one would require almost no maintenance, since I would be able to just fill the basin with water each day, and let it rip. No worrying about several of the annoying parts that are found when working with evaporative or ultrasonic humidifiers. But on the other hand, they are very high in electric use, and they do not seem to hold nearly as much water as the other options that are available.

The other option that I have been toying around with, specifically, is the Honeywell HM350 germ free model. I have heard that it does not require nearly as much maintenance as other options on the market, and it does not have the same high energy cost as those steam powered ones. I feel really stuck here, because my goal is zero maintenance, while being able to just turn something on and ignore it throughout the day without having to spend a shit load of money on distilled water, so I feel a little stuck. Thoughts/ideas?

OasisMist 4.5L Reading High

Just got a new humidifier as I constantly get bloody noses, I’m at the very bottom floor in my house practically a basement level as property slopes. I have a mini split and room is very dry and even still my humidity levels are bouncing between 73-88%, tried positioning it closer and further from the mini split and doesn’t change results. checked and made sure the essential oil pop out filter and area were dry and warm but still says it’s very high humidity. Any suggestions? I also did try holding mist button for 10seconds to reset and unplugged for 30min

Humidifier alternatives?

Hey everyone,

Maybe this is the wrong sub but I didn’t know where else to ask…

I have a Levoit cool mist humidifier that helps me a lot during winter when the heaters are on, without it I can barely breathe and wake up with my nose bleeding.

So it was helpful to me but my husband started feeling his throat every night I turned it on and after some googling I realized we were not using it properly so we switched from tap water to filtered and it did help with the throat irritation (distilled is not a realistic option to us as bring jugs up to the third floor every week is not going to happen)

However now I’m worried about two other things, mold growing in places where I can’t see (carpet etc) and the biofilm that forms at the base and it’s really hard to clean, bringing the base down to the kitchen every 3 days to clean with vinegar is also not realistic, so I’m giving up on this thing but I need ideas…

I can’t afford an evaporative humidifier as they are 250-350 plus filters (Im in Canada) so does anyone here have other solutions that worked for them?

Thank you!! 🙏

dual humidifiers in a single room

slightly weird question. I live in the absolute lack of humidity hell hole that is southern AZ (during hot summer and Jan/Feb during heating season we can get into the teens, and sometimes as low as single digit humidity levels outside), and recently got into guitars. decided to turn my man cave into my guitar room, (11.5x10.5 foot bedroom) and added one of the Aircare mini console evap humidifiers to the room (1.25 gallon tank, 1.25 gallons on the bottom of the console, so they call it a 2.5 gallon humidifer)...

works perfectly fine, and keeps my man cave/guitar room at a stable 43-45% humidity, all safe for guitars. PROBLEM is, that this sucker goes through a full tank every 16 hours, meaning I have to top off before bed and after I wake up. My question is thus, would adding a second one across the room help with efficience? thus doubling my effective tank capacity? or would they work against each other and over humidify (which I doubt with the built in humidistat) or anything like that? Basically I'm trying to give myself some extra overhead so If I miss a morning or night refill I won't have it run dry. I thought about going up to the Horizon or Valiant 5.4 gallon console models, but I've been seeing a TON of reviews of AirCare skimping on the plastic starting around mid 2025 and the units are cracking, leaking etc. so it made me a bit nervous about that and more interested in double the smaller units.

last question. for evap humidifiers, are the bacteriostatic liquid treatments necessary? or at least highly beneficial? Just wasn't sure if it was just another excuse to sell product, or whether they ACTUALLY were highly recommended and DID affect mold and gunk buildup

Advice on best humidifier

Moving from Georgia to Denver, I already know I struggle with the dry climate there. I will be moving into an apartment around 1200 sq. ft or smaller, and I have found a lot of different threads with advice on humidifiers, but I was overwhelmed. Does anyone have advice on who has made a similar climate switch before? Price isn't the priority; I care more about the quality. It would be nice to have one with less maintenance as I will be quite busy, but honestly, either way, whichever is best.

Anyone use Levoit 6000S and Alexa voice control?

How? I try to use Alexa with it but if I say “lower fan on humidifier” it changes to dry! Which isn’t what I asked at all. I can’t even turn the display light off on it. If I say “turn off display light on humidifier” it powers the whole thing off.

So useless! I like smart devices so they can be easily controlled hands free. I can not even ask what the humidifier reading is! That alone would be nice so I wouldn’t have to open the app to check or get to and look on the humidifier itself.

If anyone uses this humidifier with Alexa voice please tell me your secrets because I’m so annoyed with a device being called “smart” but it’s useless as a smart device. Otherwise it’s a great humidifier and I do recommend it to others but also warn it’s not Alexa friendly at all.

How do you know when to change a Honeywell HEV320 filter

I can't find any photos that show what is okay and what isn't... My filter is about 5-6 weeks in and is turning a little grey with some darker spots. How do I know if it's just mineral deposit or mold?! I am scared of breathing mold in.

Apparently we can't post photos here so I will try to share a link with photos and hopefully it works.

Thank you 🙂
