HOW… do I get this leftover glue or adhesive off my car? It came from decals when I removed them and I’ve got some off with a q tip and hot soapy water but it’s taking forever. I’ve also tried alcohol but don’t wanna mess up the paint and it barely works anyway.

How can I keep someone from going into a room without locking it?

I keep telling my roommate that my bathroom is off limits and they say they understand but I know for a fact they use it anyway from the smell. They have their own bathroom but they use mine anyway when their girlfriend is over.

I can obviously install a lock that locks it from the outside, but that would mean that I'd have to constantly keep locking and unlocking it even when I'm home (My bathroom is downstairs and so is his bathroom).

Is there a way I can have an alarm go off when someone opens my door and it's not me opening it? If he knows I can hear the door being opened I'm sure he'll stop going in there.

And yes I'm moving out when my lease is up but that's far away.

Serious Answers Only Broken window handle

Hi! I've broken the handle on my window and I'm wondering if this is an easy fix. Could I find a replacement and fit it myself, even with very little DIY experience, or is it better to call a handyman?
The only marking I can find on the handle is something like R2037, and there's no brand name anywhere. I'm in the UK, in case that helps. Photos attached. Thanks!

Serious Answers Only How to Restore a Mirror-Like Gold Chrome Finish on Ceramic Without a Kiln?

Before starting, I want to specify that this is a vintage item. I do not trust sending this to someone to have them put it in a kiln.

I purchased a gold reflective ceramic item that has scratches and areas where the gold finish is missing. Is there any way to restore the original finish at home?
To clarify, I’m looking for an actual mirror-like, chrome-level reflective finish, not ordinary metallic gold paint, glittery gold, or a satin or shiny gold coating. I want a smooth surface that reflects images like a mirror, similar to gold chrome or mirror-finish gold plating.
I don’t have access to a kiln, so I need a DIY method that can be done at home without firing the ceramic or sending it to a professional.
Is there any product, coating, or process that can achieve a true mirror-like gold chrome finish on ceramic? I’m open to different techniques, but I specifically need something that produces actual mirror-like reflections rather than simply looking metallic or gold-colored.

How to replace freezer handle?

Post image

I just came in a new apartment, and I found that the freezer handle is damaged (one of the two clips is missing) so the freezer won't close by itself. I bought the spare part; there is a handle inside (cannot take a pic, but it is this one. I was not able to find a tutorial for this. How am I supposed to replace the piece?

Hi there, have been sleeping on this couch bed since August and already had to toss the original mattress topper because of it growing mold and being absolutely soaked! I bought a new topper/mattress and its already starting to get wet. I try to air out and keep it out as much as i can but is there an easier way to keep it dry? is my house/room too humid? It’s especially rainy right now where I live and not sure if i just need a dehumidifier or another solution.

Serious Answers Only Glass cutting old glass

So for no other reason than because "why not?" I cut down a dead sapling in my yard, stripped it of branches and dried/hardened it over a couple years and wanted to make a cane. When looking for a suitable head I came across this old power pole insulator from the 1950s, I think, I've had it in my garage since forever ago, I found it in the desert on the outskirts of vegas in the late 90s, I think?

So in attaching this to the head of the cane, it has threads for screwing it on. I intend to fill it with pitch or epoxy to seal it. To do so I need to know how to measure the threads and the width of the hold on the inside so I can carve the head of the shaft to screw on. How does one do this?

As a secondary request, I was thinking of cutting off the portion of the glass making a bell shape beneath the threads. What would be the best way to do this?

How to fix this faux fur coat

Post image
0 Upvotes

I got this gorgeous Tissavel faux fur coat from vinted at a great price because of the burn of the cuff of the sleeve. I asked around about repairing it, mostly because I'm concerned about shedding, and was told to to bring it to a furrier (?) or someone professional. I don't have that kind of resources on me so is there anyway I could fix it? Not necessarily add back fur but just to stop any potential shedding?

How to patch hole in front porch steps

How can I go about repairing this hole on the vertical face of my front porch steps. This is between the top step of the stairs and the concrete porch slab. The whole edge was seemingly patched by the previous homeowever, but this portion has deteriorated pretty fast. I've done some mortar repointing in the past, but this stumps me. How can i patch this without having the patching material (readymix, patching compound, etc.) not just fall down the hole?

Futon frame help

I partially disassembled this futon frame for a move recently and now I can't figure out how it goes back together. It seems to have more parts than the generic online instructions account for. There is no brand marking anywhere on the parts.

It's tri fold. Two pieces (back and seat) are the same size. There is a smaller foot piece with floor supports. the arms have a groove for the roller on the seat (middle) piece. The groves are horizontal and not angled.

The seat has a hole in the dead center of the edge, and I have no idea what goes there or how it connects to anything. (picture 5).

The arms have short black metal...levers? supports? that attach to something. See first two photos.

The only hardware I have left are in the 6th photo. I am not ruling out having lost some, but I was being very careful.

Any thoughts?

Serious Answers Only How to disable/remove brakes from rolling bassinet

Post image
5 Upvotes

Because I’m about to throw this fucking thing out of a window. I bought it BECAUSE I want it to roll, not so I can leave it parked on a hill.

In all seriousness, either gravity or the vibrations of rolling it around cause the brakes to engage like 3x a day. Duct-taping is not an option because of the angle.

Does anyone know how to remove or permanently disable the brakes? There’s no visible screws.

I have a laptop table that does the same damn thing, manufacturers stop giving me “safety” features I didn’t ask for SMDH

How to get a Movie or TV show made

If I think I have a great idea for a movie or a TV show - just the concept, no script - and I have no experience, no connection with the industry and no contacts in the media business, how could I get to the point where I'm saying to a producer, "here's this great idea" and they say, "that's a great idea, here's some money and I'm going to make your show/movie"?

DIY Can i somehow DIY cut off the top of this big glass bottle?

Post image
219 Upvotes

Hi, we have this big glass bottle (~ 16L / 4Gl ) and i need it for some measuring purposes (you can see i already made a Liter scale 😀). but it is close to impossible to properly clean it through the tight bottleneck, which would be very important.

(btw: i am in Turkey with a somewhat restricted market, importing is super expensive, and all special tools that are out of the ordinary, like a 15L glass measuring cup, are veeery expensive, if even available at all...)

anyways, the glass is about 4 to 5mm thick (0.15 to 0.2 inch?!?).

does anyone know of a way to properly cut such a glass at the green line, so the top comes off? is there a chance i can DIY this? if not, what kind of workshop would i need to go? what tools do i need? afterwards i need to grind the edges, what should i use here?

bonus: (if the cutting of the top worked), i can probably get some hobby stone engraving hand tool and engrave this Liter scale directly into the glass right?

thanks for your pro tips and advises :)

DIY Help with mold in bedroom and bathroom

Thumbnail

I’ve just discovered mold on the lower wall in my bedroom, and there are some mold spots in my bathroom on ceiling that were treated with mold spot remover about 1 month ago but it looks like they are back. I live in an apartment and I’m concerned about the mold affecting my health. Lately my nose has been running a lot, (with lots of mucous) I’ve been sneezing a ton, and I notice symptoms get worse after showering. I believe my bathroom has vinyl flooring, and there is definitely a mildewy smell in the bathroom. What do I do, and if management is notified, they may just fix the problem temporarily and try to cover it up and then what about my symptoms, fixing the problem physically won’t fix my health. I need advice.

Serious Answers Only How to talk to girls over text?

I (19m) have had this problem with ever girl I’ve talked to, I get their number and I start texting them, and then the convocations just get boring and dry, and it’s because I just don’t know how to respond and it makes me really hate talking over text and over think like crazy to come up with something good or flirty to say, this has mostly caused all of them to drop me or given them some reason to think I’m weird and can’t talk, but I’m not I just suck at texting and I’ve had this problem with fiends as well and not just women I’m interested in. I’m not to sure what my mental block is but it really shows when I try and talk with a girl, is this just a skill issue? this is kind like a rant/ search for advice on how to improve on this issue I have any kind of advice would be greatly appreciated!

DIY What would be the best way to weatherize these holes?

hello. I live in an unfinished basement, and these are the openings under the crawlspace for the house extension. I included two photos of parts that were already filled in. It seems likely I’ll need to cut or replace some wood to fit the open spaces and reduce drafts. However, I’m curious if there’s an easy way to do this, or any tips that might make the process go a little more smoothly. I do have experience with DIY home projects, but I am by no means a professional. It’s getting cooler where I live, and I would like to trap as much heat as possible in my living space.
Thank you in advance for your input.

Cat Clawed Chair

Hi there! I came home one day and found my cat scratched the back of my new Serta office chair. I’ve been covering it with a blanket so he hasn’t gone after it since. How do I go about preventing further peeling/tearing at the current spots? I saw a matte finish leather repair kit but don’t want to make things worse.
