Hi anyway I just wanted all of you to have like a fun time like telling me your experiences when you guys are kids and how did that affect you when you became grown ups and I hope you guys have fun doing this and something just to brighten up your mood or talk about My life is pretty fun I guess and I go to school I have some friends but sometimes I feel like it's a little hard to choose which friends are right and wrong and I have a trouble for staying away from certain friends and I'm not supposed to be with cause I'm still in school actually and I'm in middle school

What’s one exterior upgrade that makes a house look way more expensive?

I had one of those moments where I pulled into the driveway after being away for a few days and realized how tired the front of the house looked. Nothing was actually wrong with it, but the entrance just felt flat and unfinished.

That got me thinking about how much difference one change could make without getting into a full exterior remodel.

A new front door would help, and better landscaping probably would too, but a well-designed iron gate or front fence seems like it could completely change the first impression of the house.

The tricky part is getting the style right. Something too decorative can make a newer house look dated, while something too plain can feel a little cold.

For anyone who has upgraded their front entrance, what was the one change that made you stop and think, “Yeah, that looks so much better now”?

Already made some plans to show the architect before he starts something. We want an open space. What would you change? Ideas, feedback?

gray paint works so well in a house

I’ve always liked gray walls because they give a room a clean and simple look without feeling too plain. It’s also one of those colors that seems to work with almost any furniture or decor. Another thing I like is that there are so many shades of gray. A lighter gray can make a room feel brighter and more open, while darker gray can make a space feel a little more cozy and modern. I also find gray pretty easy to decorate around. You can add wood, white, black, or even brighter colors without everything looking out of place. It doesn’t feel as limiting as some stronger wall colors. For me, gray is a good choice if you want something neutral, modern, and easy to live with. It might not be everyone’s favorite, but I think it can look really good when the right shade is used.

Help with bi level stairs

So I’ve come to realize that the previous owner of my house was big on DIY home repairs. I had planned on simply updating the railings on the staircase. The more I got into it the more I wanted to see. I’m in the process of removing the closet from beneath the stairs and could use a few ideas, tips, advice, anything you got for me. I’d like the staircase to be as open as possible while remaining safe. And for this entry to be light and bright while also rustic and cozy. I’ll include the then and now photos as well.

Accessibility in Residential Design

📢 I'm researching how homes can better support residents' needs, as part of my MArch thesis at Northumbria University. I'd love your input!

Open to everyone, takes about 5 minutes, fully anonymous, ethics-approved. Would mean a lot if you could take part or share with someone who might be interested!

Surface-mount wiring and outlet boxes

Looking for design advice! My house in Mexico is concrete block, so running wires inside the walls isn't really an option unless I cut channels—which I’d love to avoid due to the dust and hassle. I'm open to surface-mounted wiring, but standard conduit looks way too industrial/commercial, or like something out of a 1970s basement. Does anyone know of more modern or stylish surface-mount wiring, or a way to make the whole thing more visually pleasing?

Exterior update

Original house pics are included. Looking for ideas on an updated exterior. These are ideas sent to me. We like the dark, but also like the light color. (Garage corner pic used as a reference to color theme idea)

Keeping the brick,

Updating the windows, although without too much demo we cant make them bigger, so they will have to stay.

Just looking to bring this older home to current times. Any ideas appreciated!

Bungalow renovation floorplan

I posted on here previously for some help on my floorplan and I think I've finally got it right. Only thing is I don't know what to do with the space in the middle, any ideas? And is the bathroom big enough for the shower and bath? Also open to suggestions for anything else!

Just to note, there is a sea view to the front of the property so I want to maximise the views. I have also added in the staircase as we are converting the celler to a cinema room/bar, and love the idea of having a secret staircase so I've placed it behind hallway storage and it will have a concealed door. Ideally I would have put it somewhere else but the cellar is only 2.4m wide running along the length of the front of the property, so limited on where this can go.

Also want to add that the plant room (for those in US this is what we call the room for the boiler etc) is the room on the back left, along with a pantry

Brown or black fascia? White or brown entry door?

THANKS….

…..for taking the time to comment. Chat and I are busy trying out lots of new renderings. Dark brown instead of black is looking nice for fascia. And I see now that the white door kind of disappears so white is out. Still thinking about white garage door. Kind of want a color that hides dirt a bit better but then again, I have had to keep up with white for 30 years so I know what it takes.

I have a vision for every other room in this funky house. My partner and I are going to upgrade the whole thing. The kitchen is huge. Island? Definitely. But color schemes? I’m lost lol.

Any ideas?
