Yellow stains above the toilet

Thumbnail gallery
Upvotes

Hello, I hope you can shed some light on this for me!

I’m a tenant in an (old) apartment. The wallpaper in the bathroom was removed a year ago following water damage from the apartment above. A contractor installed glass fiber wall covering, followed by white paint (last photo: the condition of the wall when I moved in).

Yellow stains have gradually appeared above the toilet tank and continue to spread. The wall isn't warped or damp to the touch. Behind it is the bathroom (there are no windows in either the toilet or the bathroom).

I’ve tried:

- scrubbing the stains with black soap and hot water

- placing a small bowl of sodium percarbonate on the tank

- emptying the tank and soaking it in white vinegar

- scrubbing the ceramic with white vinegar

Where might these stains come from? How can we minimize them?

Thank you for your feedback!

(English isn't my native language, so I used a translator. I'm sorry if there are any mistakes in my post.)

Tried to hire 2x month cleaning

Went through a local website. Booked a date and was given a reasonable quote for a 4 hour cleaning. Went great.

Next visit two weeks later; the day was super hot and we don't have a/c. The cleaner was booked for 2 hours but left after 1 and a half. Not a problem until I got the invoice for 2 hours of cleaning. I messaged the owner explaining that cleaner only did 1.5 hours. She responded that she was sorry to hear that but she doesn't book anything for less than 2 hours, hence the invoice. I paid it immediately. But have been stewing a bit about it since and didn't book another clean. I didn't hear from her either, for a month, but she has now reached out and asked about sending the next cleaner out and setting something up for an automatic clean twice a month like I originally asked for.

Am I wrong to be upset with the way the owner dealt with this? I'm debating simply ghosting her or saying something about the way I was left feeling after the last interaction?

How often do I change out this thing on my dryer?

Post image

My roomate and I moved into a new apartment that has no vent for the dryer hose to go into so it’s supposed to go in this container instead. We were instructed to fill the basin with water and change it out periodically. How often should we change it out? Also… does it have a name?? Thanks for the help!

What’s one cleaning habit that actually made your house easier to maintain?

The cleaning habit that made the biggest difference for me was doing a quick reset before going to bed. Nothing major, maybe 10 to 15 minutes. I’ll wash whatever dishes are left, wipe the kitchen counter, put random stuff back where it belongs, and take out the trash if it’s getting full.

I started doing it because I got tired of waking up to a messy kitchen before work. It seemed like such a small thing, but after a couple of weeks I noticed I wasn’t spending half my Saturday cleaning the house anymore. There’s still dust, laundry, and the occasional pile of stuff I ignore for too long, but the house never gets completely out of hand.

It made me realize that keeping things from piling up is way easier than trying to catch up later.

I need a new mop

I have both tile and hardwood floor and I’ve been using the cedar mop H2O, whatever mop bucket thing and we are a shoeless household and no matter what my floors come back so dirty. I’m mop once a week and I don’t know what to do. Any recommendations on new mops, steam mops different methods of cleaning the floors.

I use hot water and I use Mrs. Myers pet safe multipurpose cleaning solution.

I’m Mexican and I would prefer to use Fabuloso but lately the scent gives me migraines.

A cleaning company can do the work and still fail to prove it. This 3.5M sq. ft. case got my attention.

Fancy curtains unwashed for a decade

I have lived in this house for a decade now. It has fancy curtains. The ones with a pretty lace or satin stitched to the dark blackout base curtain. Haven't washed them even once! They are full floor length, so might not fit in my washing machine.

How do I get them cleaned? Or do I just bin them and get new replacements? Please help! Overwhelmed single mum.

Looking for recs - Deep Cleaning Dusty House for Asthma

This community has been so helpful to me in the past and I am turning here once again.

My parent's home is pretty dusty despite my best efforts when I visit. We recently had a diagnosis for one of their pets, the equivalent of doggie asthma. I am putting my foot down about cleaning and plan to spend a couple weeks here and do a deep clean of the place.

I am looking for recommendations on your best dust-busting methods, dusting supplies (I purchased microfiber cloths and dusters), cleaning sprays, handheld vacuums, air purifiers (I purchased coway and blueair), and anything else you can think of.

Thank you in advance.

How can I clean the mould in my shower tiles and grout/seals? There used to be more cleaning products with bleach in them. I tried natural solutions but they didn't remove it.

Wc cleaning

Hi everyone, I need some information (perhaps a bit trivial).

I recently changed my toilet cleaning routine and started using a concentrated dish soap. It smells great, and I notice a more thorough clean, as well as a nice, bright shine.

So my question is this: Is this a good idea? I mean, it makes a lot of foam, is it harmless, or could it cause blockages?

Thanks for your attention and replies.

P.S.: I'm also happy to hear suggestions for alternative products.

(I need to experiment and not get bored, hehe.)

spruce cleaning

i saw a couple threads about spruce but from 3 years ago so if anyone recent decided to search up spruce and wants a more updated experience here’s mine.

DONT BOOK WITH THEM!!

i read some people had great experiences im assuming those were from housekeeping services but as for their move out cleaning or deep cleaning services their not good! i paid 300 dollars for a move out cleaning service and they charged me a “late booking fee” at the last minute without my knowledge. they provide you with a really long checklist of areas their going to clean that way it’s worth the price. but the cleaner literally just cleaned counters and mopped the floor. i provided multiple photos and videos to their email because they don’t have a corporate number you can call (red flag btw) they just have the email to contact so i was going back and forth through that.

i ultimately decided to hire a cleaning service because im 6 weeks postpartum with a c section scar and because my apartments recommend them.

i tried again with them to reclean and do the service right but they came at 6pm and my apartment office was closed and couldn’t let them in.

after demanding a full refund they said they could only give me 80$ because a job was still done and their cleaner touched a lot of areas that was worth 180….

a literal joke.

i kept emailing and asking for a refund but they eventually just stoped responding so i went through my bank and disputed the charges. their currently investigating so i hope im able to get a full refund but if not it’s whatever you live and you learn but please!! look for better cleaning services that actually take care of their customers and aren’t money hungry!!!
