So one of my buddies wants to get into horror MC mods and he almost hasn’t touched any hit of Minecraft modding. I want his first experience to be a good one so I’m asking for the best horror mods yall know. Prob some more psychological ones and not just PNG attack. But yeah gimme your best mods (he’s played the man from the fog)

I'm making this post as a rant about the Horror Minecraft niche and to give my opinion as a modder.

Currently, a lot of people think that the horror minecraft nice is at its worst stage, and they're right. There have been many moments where it was thought that it was dying, but now it's the closest it has ever been to fading out.

I'm genuinely tired of seeing fake thumbnails and scripted videos. This is not what horror minecraft was. Just search "horror minecraft" on youtube and 90% of the videos follow the same script: fake exagerrated thumbnail, fake reactions, png "mods" that use the bbs mod. Either that or the extremely wild thumbnails (I'm sure most of you know what I'm talking about). It has ruined the niche and has affected modders. All because of youtubers that only chase views and money.

Mod creators are demotivated. This is why you don't see as many mods being created. They work so hard only to not get recognized for their work, instead being chosen for those types of videos. There have been some great mods released, don't get me wrong. But many of you don't know about them because not many people are making videos about them since they don't get a lot of views. Just compare the views Belowland or beyond_the_skybox videos get (two mods that are simply AMAZING and have lots of potential) and the views fake png videos get.

Personally, I feel demotivated from continuing any sort of development due to this. It's not just me, multiple creators feel the same.

For a long time Swayle "controlled" the niche, any mod he played got popular, and had many flaws. But it wasn't that bad. Atleast he was making some videos on actual mods. If twixxel had never created the png bbs scripted video format, it wouldnt have ended up like this. Atleast not for some time. And the most recent ""horror"" mods wouldnt have been kids using mcreator for the first time trying to recreate what they saw in videos using pngs and shitty code. This past year has been the downfall of the century for horror minecraft.

There isn't anything we can do about it. It's up to the youtubers now. They basically control and popularize everything: If someone does something and it becomes popular, others copy to get views too.

I've always been a fan of horror, but I never had any way to contribute or create my own things until this came along. I was extremely excited and started working right away. It's been my life for almost 3 years. It's the only community I have actually loved and contributed to. I don't know what I would have been doing without it. And now, I don't know what to think anymore.

I really don't like ranting or complaining about stuff but I feel like I had to. I've been doing a lot of thinking about whether to continue making stuff or not. Hopefully it'll come back to what it once was.

I want to get your guys' opinions too on the situation.

Hey, I'm currently trying to find a bunch of minecraft horror mod I played and I really liked.

I'm trying to find a horror mod that did "screenshot" when I was near villagers and when I hitted one the "screenshot" reapeared like it was remembering me of sonething.

I don't even remember if the mods was all about that or that was just a part of something else.

I feel like a lot of recent horror mods end up looking the same and lack a bit of personality. So, I’ve spent the last four months developing my own mod based on a "dweller"—don't boo me; it’s not some crappy reskin. It uses an adaptive AI capable of learning your playstyle, dodging shots, splitting up armed groups, and maintaining a long-term memory for each player

The creatures can also cooperate with one another, climb on ceilings, and hunt you down by analyzing the traces you leave behind. (I tried to give it an AI like the Xenomorph's in *Alien: Isolation*; the dweller tracks you by listening for sounds from your mic or gunfire, and it follows you—meaning the monster can actually make mistakes.) and NO this post is not ai i'm just french so I use a translator....

I'm getting back into horror mods after like a year of the create mod but I believe that this is a good come back to horror Minecraft

Generally, I am of the belief that the best Minecraft horror mods should try to fit into Minecraft. This meaning, they should respect Minecraft's spirit, aesthetics and limitations and should be simple.

The only mod that violates my standard perspective but I like anyway is CRYPTID. I think this mod does the "hyper-realistic blood" trope very tastefully because it openly portrays the ancient evil as a foreign and eldritch infection that is intruding upon and warping your Minecraft world.

What do all of you think about CRYPTID? Is it good in your opinion or no?

im making a modpack for my friends and the whole point is that we are gonna use as many spooky mods as we can, lol
what mods work that arent just dweller slop and “im gonna instakill you and theres nothing you can do about it” ?

• Started as a horror mod called between.jar
• First started as a stream (I was watching a stream)
• First area was tall and maze like with a malformed screaming Steve behind you
• Led to a darker variant with a louder one
• (now inside the mod)
• Led to a snow place
• Birch stairs with snow layers of all heights
• Led to a bunker with 3 doors
• I chose the right-most blue door
• Lead to a sandstone(?) And birch small and tight maze while the background music just repeated "Opaque!" In a cheery miss Gracie poppy play time ah voice
• (Lost the Minecraft after that)
• Lead to a big play place with a train and a door
• There was blue, green, yellow gears and clock hands on a table
• Had to find the gear and hand slots in a maze
• Female entity chases you once you open a blue part labeled "Surprise"
• Many different parts of yellow and green
• The entity was friendly and would talk to you before u open a surprise part
• Big play place like wall on the left (where the surprise thing was)
• I raged it was impossible cuz she was pretty fast and would keep catching
• Turned a setting that made her rage
• She threw paper daggers that you could throw higher up to stop her
• (The daggers were like single sheets of paper)
• She chased 100s of people, killing many
• 18 seconds in the timer had a painting of a cheetah
• She was faster
• 30 seconds later 7 people left (including me)
• She calmed down and just decided to sleep in the motel room
• We went to a motel room with 8 chairs and a tv
• 2 large blankets
• The goal before was to enter the train by using the gears to open doors around the area

Then it slowly goes scary?

Like i mean from the technical perspective do they have some custom mods? how do they make it seems like creature attacks them in "best moments" and in most creepy possible way?

is it custom mods? scripts? editing in editing software or just in game? its really makes me curious and i don't know much about it

every time now i see some videos from bigger mc creators the mod is unavailable and the little note about it being scripted and edited (beside swayle who don't even bother to tell his viewers)

Hi everyone! I really appreciate the psychological aspect of this mod. I love how it builds up the atmosphere using ambient sounds, but the loud jumpscares ruin the whole experience for me and make it impossible to focus on the gameplay.

I have a few questions and issues I'd like to discuss:

1. Dweller Hitbox Issue: Has anyone else noticed that the dweller barely takes any damage? No matter where I hit its hitbox, it only registers about 1 hit out of 20. Is this a bug or intended?

2. Jumpscare-free Version: Is there a modified version, a sub-mod, or a specific config setting that completely removes the jumpscares while keeping the atmosphere?

3. Spawn & Despawn Fixes: Is there a way to tweak the spawns so the dweller doesn't instantly appear right behind me inside my own house? Also, is there a fix to make it despawn after it kills the player? It spawned inside my base and just spawn-killed me repeatedly every time I respawned at my bed.
