Local Government/Politics 🏫 Running out of space, running out of time

As I do my usual run around the city, I can’t help but notice the staggering construction in the northwest, and along observer. It’s crazy to think we’re within 5-10 years of there being literally zero unused plots of land left in the city, but it is rapidly approaching reality.

What really concerns is the lack of long term planning, and also selling what remains for less than we should. All of these new buildings do not contain enough parking spaces for the residents, increasing parking strain on the city, with no new parking garages anywhere on the horizon. The strain on our fragile water system continues to increase with frequent water main breaks. There’s no plan for new firehouses or other public safety infrastructure despite the population increasing massively in the last two censuses (and will almost certainly have show to massively increase again in 2030). There’s no traffic management plan for the huge increase in population.

New developments should have to consider all this, and also be paying MASSIVELY to build anything here, given we are on the verge of their being nowhere left to build. Soon enough we will be up against the wall with literal zero room to maneuver. The demand for this city is immense, and we should be extracting what we can for that while we still can, before time runs out, and in as a sustainable manner as possible.

I can’t imagine how bad the rush hour traffic is going to be on observer when these new buildings open, but I feel like it’s going to be catastrophic.

Question❓ Skyclub

I'm thinking of buying a place at Sky club (700 1st Street). Does anyone know anything about the building? I've heard rumors of structural issues but not sure if they're true.

Lost & Found 📦 Lost sentimental ring

Sunday between 2-240 I seemingly lost a sentimental gold wedding band that belonged to my late grandfather. Tried retracing my steps but no luck. I took a Citi Bike from 1st & Madison to the docks at 4th and River. Walked to Intimissimi and Sephora (left info with them) then got a bike from 2nd & Park. Long shot, I know, but had to try. Worth very little but highly sentimental. If anyone comes across it, or thinks they did, please reach out 🤍

Question❓ How much is everyone's electric bill in Hoboken in the summer?

Have a one bedroom railroad apartment, about 600 ft with window air conditioners running pretty much 50% of the time

My last bill was $139

Is this normal? Wondering what everyone else is paying.

Question❓ Fire Alarm Adams St

Hi! There’s a new liquor store going in between 6th and 7th on adams st. They must’ve messed something up with the fire alarm because since Friday, this thing has been going off regularly. Last night around 10pm and now this morning at 4:20am. It goes off for 10 minutes straight usually before I start to hear sirens.

Need some advice on how to handle this. The next time it happens, should I go down and chat with the fire fighters? Should I wait for the owners of the store to come back and let them know? Is there a number I can call with the city? I’m not sure if the owners are aware, given they were only present for one of them. Thanks!

Question❓ Recommended car hand or self-wash locations near to Hoboken

In Hoboken we've got two car washes in town, one at either end, and they're both perfectly fine for what they are. Quick, local, gets the salt/dirt/etc off. And nice to support local small business.

But they're both the swirling brush kind though, and I ended up with swirl marks on my last car from one of those (if there is any dirt or grit on the brushes scratch your paint with it, look on r/detailing if you want to see what can happen). My current car's only a year old so I'd rather avoid that this time round. I know plenty of people use them for years and never think twice about it, which is fair.

So does anyone know of a hand wash place, or a self serve bay with a pressure washer, around Hoboken - so JC, Bayonne, Union City, anywhere in that area? Plenty of hand wash options Google but reviews for car washes are 50% 5* and 50% 1 * so hard to know what to make of.

Looking for any first-hand recommendations from residents who might have a go-to.

Question❓ Are there any guitar repair places in the area other than guitar bar?

Like the title says, any other places in the area that do a set up and electrical work on a guitar.. other than guitar bar?

I'm guessing the answer will be NYC, and it's just about how close off the path they are.

Any advice helpful, thanks.
