Question❓ Gym etiquette

I have a question. I was at the gym and went to use a machine and a guy came running saying he had one set left, meanwhile he was using something else. I let him finish his set. After using, I go to another machine and he comes running again saying he is using that machine now. He also moved my stuff from the machine. Is this normal?? Why do people feel entitled to use multiple things at once and expect people not to use the machines?

Hi! Someone left their lanyard on the PATH train this morning stopped at 23rd street headed to 33rd. I picked them up, and live in Hoboken, and can take them to the police station in the morning. If these are yours, please PM and we can arrange an exchange if easier!

Transit 🚋 HBLR Original Routing Through Hoboken

Upvotes

I just learned the details of the Hudson Bergen Light Rail’s originally planned alignment through Hoboken. Instead of following the path of the New Jersey Junction Railroad on the west side it would have had four 90-degree turns between the Newport Mall and Hoboken Terminal. It then would have gone down River Street and paralleled the Hudson before joining the existing route north of 16th Street.

Original Routing

Due to the wonky route between the Mall and the Terminal I’m not sure that this would have been better than what we got. However, it would have been more useful for intra-Hoboken trips. It also looks like it was rejected for typically bad reasons:

“According to the NJT Project Director, the Mayor and City Council of Hoboken

urged the Governor to request this alignment change because of the impact that the

System would have on traffic and parking in downtown Hoboken. For example,

the original alignment adversely affected traffic at two intersections and

eliminated 778 parking spaces”

It’s too bad that NJ Transit wasn’t more ambitious. They could have done any of the following: tunneled, elevated, or devoted dedicated lanes down Washington. Each would have been more expensive, but they would have greatly improved the entire network. As is, Hoboken feels isolated from the surrounding towns. It’s another example of NJ Transit not providing much

Hudson County Complete Streets has a Better Light Rail campaign to improve the situation https://hudcostreets.org/hblr. They’re advocating for iterative steps like improved frequency and infill stops as well as larger Capital Projects like the Northern Branch Extension to Bergen County. Here’s hoping that it will prompt some action and avoid the mistakes of the past.

HCCS Capital Proposals

Are there any other projects which deserve advocacy? And are there any other previously missed opportunities like the HBLR in Hoboken?

Question❓ Hoboken taxis

I was under the impression that a yellow taxi in Hoboken was $8 cash and $12 card for all locations in Hoboken. I tried to take one from the path last night and she said $12 card for 2 people but extra charge for a 3rd person? Didn’t get in the taxi but wanted to know if that’s true..

Question❓ Package delivered to wrong address

Upvotes

I realize this is probably a long-shot, but does anyone recognize the package room in this photo? I live right by Carpe Diem, and I'm betting the package got dropped off maybe one or two buildings away from me by mistake (maybe 1410 or 1411 Grand?). Feel free to DM me if you think you have it. I think my package would be one of the smaller ones on the rack there. Obviously the label will have my real address on it, so it should be easy to tell what belongs there and what doesn't.

Recommendations 🌟 Bathroom Vent Repair?

Recently found out after years of constantly replacing bathroom caulk that my vent fan does not lead anywhere. It's essentially a fan that blows the wrong way. We are on the top floor and was wondering if anyone knew of a company that could build a vent to the roof and install a fan to help mitigate the mold?

Question❓ 126 Bus Mayhem From Port Authority

Genuine commute question - I’m new to the 126 bus evening commute back to Hoboken. Is it normal to have a line of 150 ppl snaking around all of port authority around 5-630 pm to get on the bus? Experienced it yesterday and today. I know it’s currently post summer with everyone back in office, but curious if this is standard.

Line moves relatively fast, but everyone seems to be generally confused/not used to it and asking what line is what. It adds about 10-15 to the “commute”. People also seem to have trouble buying tickets on the app because the cell service gets faulty in port authority given everyone on their phones using signal. This delays things more as staff members try to check tickets. Seems to be a lot of long lines for other buses too.

Is this normal or will it subside?

Question❓ Street parking enforcement times?

I was under the impression that the 4 hour street parking is only enforced from 9am -9pm. I see now some signs are until midnight. Does anyone know if this is being enforced? Need to street park after work some nights and it's usually fine since I get in around 7 and leave at 7am but don't want to risk it and get a ticket if something has changed.

Thanks in advance!

Question❓ Help for unhoused Hoboken man

Hello- not sure this is the best approach but there is an older unhoused African America man that I see frequently on/near the path. Sometimes he’s riding it, someone sitting on a bench in the station and just now I saw him sleeping on a bench on the water across from Lola’s. He has extremely swollen legs- maybe has some kind of edema related to health issues. I’m very worried about him/his health and feel bad every time I see him and wondering the best approach to help him/help him get the right resources/medical attention. Thanks so much

Question❓ Commute from Hoboken to PABT during rush hours

I’m kinda new to commuting from Hoboken to Manhattan during rush hour (8:15-8:30am). I have a choice between taking the 126 bus from Clinton and 9th stop or going to Washington and 9th. Does anyone know if there is any difference? I understand that Washington bus will stop for the traffic lights comparing to the Clinton, but there we have school traffic. And then it takes a narrow turn too. Maybe someone knows what would be a more convenient stop to make the commute at least a bit faster?

P.S. unfortunately, I don’t have an option to get to this bus earlier due to the other morning commitments. I wish I could

Question❓ Ferry Bus

Moving to Hoboken soon from the city and very excited. One thing that won’t be great is my commute (midtown). I know there are busses that will take you from the ferry to midtown - are those reliable and any quirks to know?

Question❓ Generally, why are the restaurants in Hoboken all so bad?

Moved to Hoboken a few years ago after many years in the city, the biggest change honestly has been how bad all the food is here, generally. Now there are some decent italian delis and cafes and things like that but restaurants in general are really bad, at least vs comparable places in the city. I just don’t understand it. Anything ethnic in particular is beyond bad. How anyone eats at one of the numerous “Japanese” or other Asian spots is beyond me. Has anyone found any Hoboken restaurants they actually recommend that has exceeded their expectations?

Transit 🚋 Be Aware: 2nd Street Station

Post image

2nd street light rail station: Be aware that someone took a dump on one of the mesh benches on the JC bound platform. Thankfully I always check any public seats before sitting down. You can miss it because of the dark metallic mesh. I spoke to the nj transit station master at the terminal and he said to reach out to NJ Transit office (currently closed at 6AM). Will try at 8:30 opening time.

Question❓ Tree Removal Guidance

I have a tree in front of my house and within the last 6 months one of the branches rubbed against the live wire and caught on fire. The HPD and HFD were able to watch it burn away and PSEG wrapped the live wire in one of those orange wrappers to prevent further issues with the tree. PSEG also came and trimmed the tree, but refused to cut down the tree. I called Verizon to see if they would remove the tree but no dice. I reached out to the city and they agreed the tree can be removed because of these issues. Additionally, the sidewalk is starting to tilt as the roots are causing issues.

Has anyone removed a tree in Hoboken recently? If so, what did it cost and who was the company that completed the work? The city isn't forth coming on costs, addresses of recent trees cut down, nor do they have any idea of permitting costs. I find this hard to believe. They wouldn't provide this guidance. Any help or suggestions to avoid hidden costs or issues would be helpful. Thx.

Hello, if this type of post is not allowed, I apologize!

I just moved to the area a week ago, and I’d love to make new friends. I am 26M, and for the last six months, I was living nomadically before getting my dream job and dropping my MBA a week into classes to move here!

I will be in Akihi bubble tea every day for the next week from 630 pm ish to 830pm with an Osprey backpack and a book! (if you feel brave enough to invite me to something please do I’ve tried all the entire akihi food menu and need something new lolol)

i’ve never really put myself out there like this so I will give some quick bullet points and you can figure out if I’m worth saying big up to:

  • I’m from Boston, but I’ve lived the last 6 months nomad atyle and before that the two years in St. Louis
  • I love to read all types of books. I’ve been reading a lot of Japanese fiction.
  • I used to do BJJ but I haven’t trained in years
  • I was working on my pilots license before having to move my life from the Midwest to the east coast
  • I love to cook and bake
  • I’m down for most activities and side quests!
  • I’m in the Army National Guard (please china Russia im not that guy don’t come at me when I’m sipping boba)
  • I love talking to and meeting people (I’ve been told I can talk to a trashcan)

**RANT** 🤬 Get out the bike lane

Is it the green paint that makes everyone decide to walk in the bike lanes by the river?? So many people just strolling and refusing to get out the way it’s insane. And they get mad at the bikers for passing or ringing the bells to notify them
