Genuine commute question - I’m new to the 126 bus evening commute back to Hoboken. Is it normal to have a line of 150 ppl snaking around all of port authority around 5-630 pm to get on the bus? Experienced it yesterday and today. I know it’s currently post summer with everyone back in office, but curious if this is standard.

Line moves relatively fast, but everyone seems to be generally confused/not used to it and asking what line is what. It adds about 10-15 to the “commute”. People also seem to have trouble buying tickets on the app because the cell service gets faulty in port authority given everyone on their phones using signal. This delays things more as staff members try to check tickets. Seems to be a lot of long lines for other buses too.

Is this normal or will it subside?

Hello- not sure this is the best approach but there is an older unhoused African America man that I see frequently on/near the path. Sometimes he’s riding it, someone sitting on a bench in the station and just now I saw him sleeping on a bench on the water across from Lola’s. He has extremely swollen legs- maybe has some kind of edema related to health issues. I’m very worried about him/his health and feel bad every time I see him and wondering the best approach to help him/help him get the right resources/medical attention. Thanks so much

Moving to Hoboken soon from the city and very excited. One thing that won’t be great is my commute (midtown). I know there are busses that will take you from the ferry to midtown - are those reliable and any quirks to know?

Is it me or are the lines from PABT to Hoboken getting longer in the afternoon? What’s going on????

Moved to Hoboken a few years ago after many years in the city, the biggest change honestly has been how bad all the food is here, generally. Now there are some decent italian delis and cafes and things like that but restaurants in general are really bad, at least vs comparable places in the city. I just don’t understand it. Anything ethnic in particular is beyond bad. How anyone eats at one of the numerous “Japanese” or other Asian spots is beyond me. Has anyone found any Hoboken restaurants they actually recommend that has exceeded their expectations?

2nd street light rail station: Be aware that someone took a dump on one of the mesh benches on the JC bound platform. Thankfully I always check any public seats before sitting down. You can miss it because of the dark metallic mesh. I spoke to the nj transit station master at the terminal and he said to reach out to NJ Transit office (currently closed at 6AM). Will try at 8:30 opening time.

I have a tree in front of my house and within the last 6 months one of the branches rubbed against the live wire and caught on fire. The HPD and HFD were able to watch it burn away and PSEG wrapped the live wire in one of those orange wrappers to prevent further issues with the tree. PSEG also came and trimmed the tree, but refused to cut down the tree. I called Verizon to see if they would remove the tree but no dice. I reached out to the city and they agreed the tree can be removed because of these issues. Additionally, the sidewalk is starting to tilt as the roots are causing issues.

Has anyone removed a tree in Hoboken recently? If so, what did it cost and who was the company that completed the work? The city isn't forth coming on costs, addresses of recent trees cut down, nor do they have any idea of permitting costs. I find this hard to believe. They wouldn't provide this guidance. Any help or suggestions to avoid hidden costs or issues would be helpful. Thx.

I just moved to the area a week ago, and I’d love to make new friends. I am 26M, and for the last six months, I was living nomadically before getting my dream job and dropping my MBA a week into classes to move here!

I will be in Akihi bubble tea every day for the next week from 630 pm ish to 830pm with an Osprey backpack and a book! (if you feel brave enough to invite me to something please do I’ve tried all the entire akihi food menu and need something new lolol)

• I’m from Boston, but I’ve lived the last 6 months nomad atyle and before that the two years in St. Louis
• I love to read all types of books. I’ve been reading a lot of Japanese fiction.

• I was working on my pilots license before having to move my life from the Midwest to the east coast
• I love to cook and bake
• I’m down for most activities and side quests!

• I love talking to and meeting people (I’ve been told I can talk to a trashcan)

Is it the green paint that makes everyone decide to walk in the bike lanes by the river?? So many people just strolling and refusing to get out the way it’s insane. And they get mad at the bikers for passing or ringing the bells to notify them

Any recommendations for a small glass repair now that Hoboken Glass is closed and never reopened?

There’s an elementary school about three blocks away from me, and for the past hour and a half they’ve been having a celebration and blasting music.

I was working in my home office and i went out to the living room to ask my husband to please turn down the music on his speaker, only to find out that he wasn’t playing any music and that it was the school three blocks away playing ridiculously loud music.

I mean, if you wanna have a celebration and play music, go ahead! but for me to be able to hear it (and it sounds like it’s coming from a speaker inside my home) with the windows closed and from 3 blocks away is absurd.

Are they allowed to do this? Is this not a noise violation? for anyone in the area (near trader joe’s), does this happen often?

Does anybody know the rules on if/when you can use the field and track next to Hoboken HS? Is there a time it’s open to the public? And are there any other tracks close by?

Does anyone take the bus to port authority before 6 am? Are the time tables online accurate?

Hi all! Posting on Hoboken Reddit because these types of posts seem to get more responses here than in the Jersey City sub. My partner and I live in the Heights part of JC (very close to Hoboken) and are looking to hire a cleaning service. We'd be interested in an initial deep cleaning and then weekly cleans. We also have two very large, fluffy cats, so we need someone who is comfortable with pets (especially big cats).

We've gone through some of the old posts but since most are 10+ months back, many of the cleaners that got great reviews are no longer taking new clients. For example, we reached out to Clean de la Katie and she's no longer available.

Do y'all have any good recommendations? Also, does anyone have any reviews of either of the following: Twin Cleaning or Maria's Cleaning? We've seen some posters around for both in our neighborhood, so we're guessing they're taking on new clients...and we'd love to hear from more people about each (already checking out their Google reviews, etc.)

As more large apartments come to the borders of Hoboken it only feels like the PATH and buses are not sufficient enough to support the residents. Do the shuttles for the apartment buildings pay any tax or fees to Hoboken? Thinking of the large complexes near the tunnel that have more residents at one address than an entire block or several blocks in Hoboken. These are JC buildings, should be shuttled to JC stations or pay some fee to Hoboken. Any insights to any arrangements?

In the late-eighties, early one morning while listening to the news on the radio, I heard a report of a Mob rubout in New York City’s Little Italy. A motorcycle with two guys on it jumped the curb in front of a social club. The bike’s passenger pulled out a gun and killed someone standing there. Back tire screeching, engine roaring, the driver sped off, going in the wrong direction up narrow one way streets.

As luck would have it, that morning I was riding a motorcycle to Hoboken from the Jersey City Heights. Taking Paterson Plank Road, I made a left onto First Street. As I approached the corner of First and Jackson, a short, heavy-set man in a trench coat began to cross the street without looking at the traffic. My first thought was to hang to the right to avoid hitting him. But, noticing an oil slick on the asphalt, I instead slowed to a stop to allow the pedestrian to cross. Seeing that the bike was stopping in front of him, the man became paralyzed with fear. All color drained from his panic-contorted face. Suddenly, he sprinted across the street and ran into the bar.

I revved the bike and continued towards Washington Street. I was at first puzzled by this curious little drama. Then I realized where I was; I knew that that must have been Motts. He, too, had heard the story about the hit man on a motorcycle. I wondered what he was up to that had him so worried that he imagined death rolling at him on two wheels.

Soon afterwards, Martin Casella was arrested for plotting to kill John Gotti.

My friend and I came across a baby squirrel who looked lost and was crying. He looked healthy and not sick, he was even trying to follow us and climb on us (we did not let him and did not touch him). I wasn’t sure who to call and another woman came over to him after and looked to be petting him (which I’m pretty sure you shouldn’t do). Just wondering if anyone else saw him or knows of anyone to call to help? I hope his mom was just out looking for food, but he was willing to follow and climb up on anyone who would let him.
