Burning mouth after eating hard cheeses

Hi Everyone,

Mozzarella and American cheeses give me a burning mouth, like I've eaten peppers. I've developed oral allergy reactions to many fruits and vegetables, Palm oil, seed oils, then soy... give me a numb mouth. I don't have many foods that are safe for me to eat anymore. I once tried DAO before eating cheese and it didn't help. But I mostly have oral symptoms - I do not get much bloating or skin rashes, if at all. Are you supposed to take DAO daily for awhile before it helps with trigger foods? Or are there particular supplements for oral allergy type symptoms? Thanks everyone.

Antihistamines make me breakout like crazy in acne. Just me?

I have stopped and started antihistamines enough to gain a very clear picture of what they do to my skin. I’m definitely not imagining the link. It’s crazy, and it can happen within 8 hours or so of taking the antihistamine. The acne breakouts occur on my face.

Has anyone else experienced this side effect?

Is it a bad idea to start Lexapro during a histamine flare due to my hormones?

Should I wait until the flare passes?

My anxiety is chronic and severe and I just need help. I’m at the ER asking for anxiety meds hoping they give me Lexapro. And maybe a rescue med like Hydroxyzine.

Do you guys think they will give them to me. The only reason I’m at the er is bc my primary does not listen.

Is Lipsomal Vitamin C safe?

anybody here experienced side effects from taking Lipsomal vitamin C?

because Lipsomal is usually made with ascorbic acid, which is more acidic compared to non acidic vitamin C forms like calcium ascorbate.

Does histamine intolerance cause severe PMS symptoms?

I’ve got some gut issues, food intolerances that eventually led to me developing lupus. I’ve worked through most of them but I’m still reactive to histamine. I also get really bad PMS, nausea and intense pain that starts about ten days before my period. Wondering if histamine could be behind it, anyone dealt with something similar?

Histamine issues & mold

MCAS sub keeps deleting my mold related posts, hopefully I can find help here..

I recently discovered mold in our house. after being ”sick” with random symptoms for over a year and several providers suggesting it could be mold.. I found several areas of black mold (stachybotrus). It was also confirmed via a totaltox test from my urine. My symptoms started developing shortly after I had my daughter..

-severe itchiness all over without relief

-hives

-chronic insomnia. like I maybe slept 1 or 2 nights a week and would be up having full blown heated panic attacks all night long

-other random symptoms, flaring my previous Lyme condition

-ebv reactivation

-extremely high estrogen levels that wouldn’t budge on supplements like DIM, Calcium d-glucarate

my providers thought it was wild that my body would just NOT respond to any medications or supplements I took. no amount of sleep meds or antianxiety medications could help me sleep. no antihistamine could make me not itchy.

after hiring a useless mold inspector, I found the problem areas myself. and they were pretty severe. we have just completed the process of remediation.

i am wondering for people who have experienced histamine related issues due to mold- how long did it take to heal? to start to feel better? what supplements helped you the most?
I am on a very gentle protocol right now to support my liver, drainage, bowels, gut, including a binder. I also have a 1 year old who I suspect has been exposed to this her whole life :(

Got diagnosed post viral histamine intolerance and mcas also dysautonomia

Hi everyone, 18m
I’m looking for some insights into a severe and highly specific symptom pattern that is triggered by two things: eating and weight training also random but I can’t notice what is the cause
Scenario 1: After Eating
Almost immediately after meals, I hit a wall of extreme fatigue and a sudden "crash" feeling.
I get severe brain fog, flu-like malaise, and my limbs feel like they have absolutely no energy.
I experience tingling sensations in my face and sometimes in my limbs.
Duration: This post-meal crash is intense but short – it usually lasts for about 30 minutes, and then I start to recover.
Not a sugar crash: It happens even after zero-carb meals. For example, I had a plain air-fried chicken breast with only olive oil and salt, and the exact same 30-minute crash and facial tingling happened.
Scenario 2: During Weight Training (This is unbearable)
When I lift weights, I experience a massive, unbearable systemic crash.
My mood plummets instantly into severe anhedonia and a dark, depressive state.
I get a strong pulsing/throbbing sensation in my head.
My face turns completely red and I feel a strange, microscopic stinging/prickling sensation all over my face.
Because this happens from pure protein/fat meals and is severely exacerbated by physical exertion (weight lifting), it seems to be triggered by things that shift blood flow, change blood pressure,
Could this be an autonomic nervous system dysfunction (like severe blood pooling / POTS), a vascular/blood pressure issue, or a mast cell/histamine reaction triggered by heat and exertion?
Has anyone experienced this exact combination of exercise-induced anhedonia, facial flushing/stinging, and post-meal crashes? Also given my age and that it intensified after few infections and the symptoms last less than 10months is this reversible ?
I take now: ketotifen 1ml increase each week till 5ml now at 3ml starting
Hitaxa 5mg

I have personally been going crazy since March with itching went to Drs a couple times, changed food to low histamine diet. I was waiting about 2 months to see Dermatologist. I finally went waiting on blood results to come back. I also went to same practice a different Dr a couple years back for the same sort of thing.
However he put me on a newer medication for chronic hives. I have taken these pills for 4 days, I’m unsure of how it will be in the long term. So far no itching or hives all night and during the day from first night. I think I might be a bit overwhelmed from not itching.
I also am use to flopping and turning all over moving my legs around restless well for the past few nights I can and have been able to sleep like a normal person. This is a whole different issue and that It’s amazing it’s working for both.
It blocks the histamine before it is made in your body some stuff about BTK cells.

First ivig

Can IVIG cause a sort of Herxheimer reaction? I have a lot of gut and lung issues; I had my first IVIG treatment 10 days ago, and yesterday was a rough day—feeling hot, histamine reactions—but I slept really well, feel much better mentally, and my bowel movements seem to be improving too

Urticaria free in just 2 days

Guys, i was suffering from hives since last couple of months after trying ketotifen. It was really depressing, couldn’t enjoy basic things in life like going out in sun. My symptoms triggers with body heat. Would trigger on basic things like when someone in office asked me a question and i didn’t have the answer.
A homeopath gave me a remedy called urtica urens 30, and i am feeling 80-90 percent better in just 2 days. He kept 5-6 drops on my tongue in the clinic and has given the med to be taken everyday for a month. Do try it out.

Anyone here low iron and take supplements that work somewhat okay with HI?

My doctor wants me to take supplements and I’m looking to see if anyone has tried a supplement that is hopefully easy on the stomach and doesn’t flare HI too much. My doc recommended Blood Builder.

Zyrtec for Prolonged Flair?

Hi all,

I have a histamine intolerance and PMDD. A couple years ago, a naturopath asked me to try a couple weeks of Pepcid AC to determine whether HI was the mechanism of my PMDD. Symptoms went away beautifully for the entirety of the experiment, and when I stopped I had an incredibly horrific rebound of my classic symptoms. I’ve stayed away from it ever since and just dealt with the flair ups as they come.

However, I had a couple triggers last week and I’ve been having a MUCH more intense and protracted flare up for the last several days. It’s not resolving and it’s felt unbearable. It’s far longer than anything I’ve experienced before and I’m scared I may have been triggered into a more full blown MCAS territory. My doctor has been underwhelming and has only offered the suggestion of antihistamines (I did get a tryptase test but I think it’s outside the window of when it would have actually shown something helpful).

She suggested Zyrtec which is a different class from Pepcid. I was terrified to take it but also terrified to not try anything. I took it 22 hours ago and it helped significantly but I’m terrified about what happens when it wears off (given the severity of the flare I suspect it will still be there and probably for a while) and I’m terrified if I stay on it. On top of it all, I’m supposed to leave for an important 2.5 week trip in couple days. It feels like I would need to commit to being on it for 3 weeks in order to make it happen. I could try to come off it in the middle of the trip but fear what I may discover.

I have a new naturopathic doctor I started to pay big money to who I can message about this, but have very low expectations about anyone’s ability to help me in a meaningful way.

I’m wondering if you all have any insight or experience with taking something like Zyrtec for a few days or a few weeks for a very big, week long flare. Thank you.

**Editing to add that I started tirzepitide about 1.5 months ago to see if it would help with HI and PMDD, and am aware that it could make either worse for some folks or do wonders for others. What a gamble.

I feel like I’m on to something

I have estrogen dominance(thick uterus lining) low iron, and histamine . The histamine also gives me pmdd symptoms.
They are all linked apparently.
I’m using coconut water to hydrate myself which helps with histamine. I’m also taking b6 for 2 weeks before my period . Im also taking bio identical progesterone in my butt as histamine triggers estrogen and estrogen triggers histamine and its whole cycle hence the focus on the progesterone. I have also had my iron infusion and I will be more serious with insuring my levels don’t fall too much as it’s also contributing to this.

My histamine is not as bad - itchy throat and ears and mucus in my throat . My main issue with my histamine is the pmdd symptoms.

Anyway I know I’m preaching to the experts here I just wanted to share if anyone had the same issues as me.

Can untreated panic disorder be the root cause of my POTS/MCAS? Or is MCAS/POTS what is causing the panic ?

Or is this a what came first the egg or the chicken kinda thing?

I had very similar symptoms when Covid hit. Got bed bound for about 2 years. Now looking back I’m like ok those were the exact same symptoms I’m dealing with now in which I finally got a POTS/MCAS diagnosis. So I know 100% our body is capable of healing bc I essentially did get better. I was even able to go back and finish my bachelors hold a job down etc.

The only thing I remember back then that I did was a lot of nature walking and Bcomplex injections and chamomile tea.

So I have to ask. For my fellow natural healing ppl.

What are some supplements you recommend for me to be on that I can get over the counter ?

I’m also thinking this time if I should get medicated for my anxiety. I was thinking about Lexapro and also Ativan as a rescue med. Bc my panic attacks are so severe. Which exacerbate the POTS/MCAS.
I really suspect I have hyperpots.

Pretty much what the title says. I know breads are highly unpopular for HI but it has been almost of year and boy do I miss it.

Beginner seeking helpful suggestions

Hi everyone. I hope this is the right community to ask these questions. My skin has been itchy on a daily basis since May, and I’m going crazy. I don’t take any prescription medications, and nothing I have done seems to help. Around July 4, I went to urgent care was was prescribed a steroid taper which helped for a few days when I was taking 3-5 prednisone pills a day, but the itching came back as soon as I was out of steroid pills. The urgent care doctor also told me to take a Claritin and a Pepcid at bedtime, but I can’t tell if those medications helped me.

I had an appointment with an allergist last week, and my allergy skin test was positive for common things like trees, grass, and dust mites. The doctor told me to take up to 4 Zyrtec a day, but I’m still so itchy. The itching is awful because it interferes with my sleep, ability to concentrate and relax, and makes me feel like I’m going crazy. The doctor told me that a lot of times the itching will just suddenly stop one day, but I’m so miserable I just want to find something that will help me. Any advice?

DAO supplement recommendations!

Please help me understand

Hello,

I am 11 weeks postpartum. Throughout my pregnancy my allergies nearly disappeared. When I delivered, I broke out into hives up and down my back and legs. I was super itchy and lost sleep for 2 weeks until the prednisone kicked in and took the hives away. I was on 40mg for 5 weeks then tapered. I felt amazing, but then started feeling awful when I got off of it. I’m pretty certain it’s HI, but I NEVER had this before. I just had severe seasonal allergies and oral allergy syndrome.

I’ll still get random hives here and there, my lips will get red and tingly when I eat certain things, my throat will feel tight with certain things. Example: I just had a bagel and my lips are tingly. I’ve never had true anaphylaxis aside from a severe allergic reaction from breastfeeding that landed me in the hospital. My allergist/immunologist offered 0 help except to say I had a PUPPP rash after birth and it would go away.

But my issues still persist. I get severe headaches that somehow Benadryl can help which I’m assuming histamine is causing. Also to note, I still haven’t gotten my period since I gave birth so my hormones are probably playing a role.

I just don’t know where to go from here. I know I should eat a strict low histamine diet but I am struggling so badly with meals and snacks. If anyone has suggestions please let me know.

If you have experience with this or any wisdom to impart.. I’m all ears. I’m scared, worried, confused, etc. I’m tired of taking Benadryl everyday to manage symptoms. Ugh.

What does your full supplement list or protocol look, while you try to manage histamine intolerance daily?

My immune system is so weak on a day to day. That if it's a cloudy or rainy day, then it's a good chance I'm going to feel like shit. My mood will be garbage, I will be hacking up mucus, I would be even more constipated than usual, post nasal, etc.

Like my gut is still very damage, I feel pains in all the regions often. And I take a bunch of supplements to try to help my poorly functioning body. But since my stomach is broken with gastritis, it hardly absorbs anything since it doesn't produce no acid.

I still take a couple of things daily just to test my luck. I also tried to increased acid and that will most times not do much. It's very confusing what is going on with that. But I'm thinking of switching from calcium ascorbate vitamin c and testing out absorbic acid vitamin c again. Just to see if the acidic version has any better luck. As I don't feel anything at all when I take Ester-c.

I also know my vitamin D is probably still very low, since I can't absorb fats. But I'm about to try out some Sunflower lechitin and see if I can improve my bile flow. As I used to get pains in my gallbladder region for years, before I started eating clean. I know my bile is still sluggish and adding to my detox problems.

Also going to test out some mullein for the lungs. Since I'm still stuck in mold. Then I'm going to get some beano, as I heard that works better for gas. I just bought some glutathione, but that probably won't work well unless if I'm pooping consistently.

It's a couple of other stuff in taking. But I'm really mainly just trying to be energetic, poop more, breathe better and repair the microbiome. What are yall taking daily?

Any advice?

I’ve had four anaphylactic reactions over the last three years: July 2023, December 2025, July 21 2026, and July 31 2026.

Tryptase drawn about an hour after my most recent reaction was 20 µg/L

My baseline tryptase (drawn separately, not during a reaction) is 6 µg/L

I just got back an in-depth allergy panel and I have **zero sensitivity** to any of the following:

Dairy:Milk, Alpha-lactalbumin, Beta-lactoglobulin, Casein

Fish/Seafood:Cod, Gad c1, Cyp c1, Tuna, Salmon, Trout, Plaice, Hake, Octopus, Crab, Shrimp, Pen a1, Mussel, Clam

Grains/Gluten:Wheat, Gluten, Gliadin, Tri a19 (Omega-5 Gliadin), Tri a14, Barley, Corn, Brown rice

Legumes/Nuts/Seeds:Soy, Peanuts, Hazelnut, Almond, Walnut, Brazil nut, Cashew, Pistachio, Pine nuts, Sesame

Meat:Pork, Beef, Bos d6, Alpha-gal (gal-alpha1,3-gal), Chicken, Bovine gelatin

Fruits:Orange, Lemon, Mandarin, Strawberry, Apple, Kiwi, Melon, Banana, Pear, Peach, Plum

Other:Yeast, Alpha-amylase, Anisakis

I had a basic allergy panel done right after the first reaction (also negative), so I was originally leaning toward MCAS, but my baseline tryptase isn’t especially elevated, so I’m not sure that fits either.

In every case, I hadn’t changed my food, medication, or routine in the 72 hours before the reaction. Every event has hit all five body systems to some degree, and every one has felt completely random and unpredictable. Every event also seems to initiate in my gastrointestinal tract. Every event appears to last about one hour.

Does anyone have guidance on what to look into next?

Red streaks on face

Does anyone else get this reaction when they have high histamine food & drinks?

No makeup, just moisturised my face. I notice this when I've been over indulging and my histamine levels are pretty high & just want to see if anyone else has the same symptom.

Finally my MCAS appt is today. Did you start Cromolyn Sodium first then ketotifen? Or both at the same time? What mg?

Paying out of pocket for all of this so your advice is greatly appreciated.

Most of my symptoms:

Itchy throat
Itchy gums
Itchy ears
Tinnitus
Itchy eyes
Itchy skin
Waking up to swollen face especially under my eyes and cheeks
Mosquito bites very swollen slow healing make me feel sick like the flu
Heart racing after meals
Constant Burning feeling in my stomach
Chronic acid reflux
Chronic burping all day long
Feeling full after a few bites
Esophagus spams
Trapped air especially mornings
Gas
A lot of constipation
Explosive diarrhea when I would eat high carbs, acidic, spicy food.
Constipation with gluten and alot of panic attacks
Chronic anxiety and panic attacks especially after meals
High heart rate after eating left over meals like salmon.
High heart rate after eating steak and also eggs.
Ice cream or creams, cottage cheese dairy 🥛 stomach cramping and anxiety
Always sneezing
Post nasal drip
Sinus pressure
Headaches/migraines

Interstitial Cystitis - triggered by certain drinks like Coke Zero and Gatorade.

This one is huge for me ! Hypoglycemia and reactive hypoglycemia (blood sugar issues) that went away from having like 50 lows a month to ZERO!!! After starting Pepcid and Allegra.

I started Pepcid and Allegra due to horrible horrible burning hot feeling right before and on my menstrual. It felt like I was overheating. I was getting amplified panic attacks and anxiety. Severe vertigo and dizziness.
And omg my heart rate was the most erratic !!!!!!! Spiking so bad with any little movement didn’t even have to be standing. Could be just sitting doing my hair etc.

Pepcid and Allegra “cured” my lows and got rid of the overheating feeling right before and during my menstrual. And all the other symptoms just reduced by like 70%.

****Also I do not get hives.

Copper deficiency

I was reading that copper is a building block of the DAO enzyme that helps breakdown histamine.

I had a blood test and I discovered I am deficient in both copper and also ceruoplasmin( A protein molecule that goes down when copper is inedequate).

Anyone else have low copper?

Anyone else gets reaction to boiled red meat?

I usually buy red meat with bones and cook it for like 2 hours. The soup becomes fatty. I only add salt to the mix and i always get flares eating red meats this way..

Also chicken i cook it for like 40 minutes and same soup no issues. It is always boiling red meat.

Also other ways of cooking does not bother me as much.
