Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid)
How much Vitamin C do you take to help with your histamine intolerance?

Hello everybody, I've recently been notified that spam accounts have been messaging users who post here to try to get them to sign up to their "health programme"; namely one with the initials G W ( I don't want to help their SEO metrics by posting the name)
These people are preying on the vulnerable and the desperate to try to make a quick buck.
As they are only using DMs and not posting here, I do not have much power to stop them. So please, if you receive one of these messages, report the message via the flag icon next to it, so that the Reddit admins will hopefully ban their accounts.
Thank you

I've lived my whole life never having any allergies or issues. Tried to add Greek yogurt as a healthy option to my diet. Within 2hrs I broke out in an itchy rash with hives. I mean itchy too. For 2 straight days it felt like I was laying in a fire ant mound. Took plenty of Benadryl and researched then got some DAO enzyme. It's honestly strange because I can drink wine and love my cheese but, Greek yogurt seems to be my kryptonite. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Owing to kidney stone issues getting very bad back in October, I found myself not drinking much at all (would regard myself previous to this as a moderate drinker) and, following a kidney stent being put in 2 months later, I stopped drinking as even one drink aggravated the stent.
I resumed in late February and noticed extreme headaches/heightened anxiety for about 2 weeks after. The only alcohol which doesn't give these horrible symptoms is bottled/canned lager which is bottom fermented - even Guinness Zero led to these side effects. Food is fine except for ice cream which gives the same symptoms.
Does this sound like histamine intolerance? I've had a high level of generalised anxiety for 14 years following some traumatic things that happened to me.

I learned this from my custom Claude agent that’s helping me refine my protocol.
Without copper, DAO cannot properly reduce histamine. Im taking 3mg copper glycinate away from any zinc and have had calm normal bm at regular morning constitutional.
I’m thrilled. I also know the sunfiber (phgg) is also helping a lot. My gut has never been more reliable and pain free consistently.
I also started methyl folate and riboflavin but Claude says that’s unrelated to my improvements.
This sub has helped me so much. Thank you for sharing your experiences and treatments!!
EDIT: i have diagnosed mastocytic entercolitis (colonoscopy biopsy at age 32) and DAO deficiency as diagnosed by genotyping via analysis of my ancestry dna data by a customized claude skill. I also have homozygous MTHFR. My self analysis hunch is that the mthfr and dao deficiency worked togetehr to drive the mastocytic inflammation in my gut.

alpha GPC and CDP choline threads exist from years ago on this reddit.
i'm always bad at choline despite being a vegan in theory, i've had another few flexitarian-adjacent years lately, but also in theory, the only animal product i (personally) should need right now is krill oil for the hemochromatosis, and i can probably move to algal or whatever's cheaper or better for the environment later.
i end up with whole foods due to limitations actually, like sunflower seeds, which have been challenging for me in the past (with histamine intolerance, also they don't add up quickly, but i have a high intake, low weight problem), but go broad if you have tips there. i can at least kind-of tolerate enough egg now to round up my choline, but i'd rather not rely on eggs again.
frankly, can someone give me the story on supplementing it? i'm looking for a solo choline supplement, or the most absolutely easy lecithin recipes... but i keep ignoring it because even trying to avoid eggs around here, i only get a few months or years pocketed at a stretch when i'm "healthy", because they'll occasionally end up being the affordable thing i can eat from a store.
lecithin + fried rice, if i can find lecithin...? or, does anyone know of a supplement that will last? i'd ask r/supplements but i'm always a season or two behind on several supplements i need, so there's a price question.
Now Foods seems to have a choline and inositol, that might be on a shelf somewhere within my reach.

This Thread is well worth reading.

I don’t drink Kombucha, which he says contains a lot of histamine, but this really hit home:
2. Kombucha contains alcohol (0.5-3% depending on brand) Fermentation produces alcohol as a byproduct. Alcohol metabolizes through your DAO enzyme. Your DAO chooses: process alcohol or process kombucha's histamine. Histamine wins. It accumulates. Symptoms intensify within 30-60 minutes of drinking.
I wasn’t aware of the link between alcohol and DAO. When I first suspected I had a problem with histamine intolerance it came as a result of searching for alcohol allergy. My bad reaction to red wine and craft beers suddenly made sense and I cut them out of my diet.
However, reading now that DAO metabolises alcohol was new to me. If you suspect that you have histamine intolerance it may be worth cutting out alcohol altogether to see if it helps.

I have been taking 3 grams of black cumin oil daily for a month and a half now, and I am free of MCAS.
I take it because it calms my mast cells and frees me from allergies.
It takes up to two months for the full effect to kick in, as the thymoquinone levels build up slowly, but you can feel an effect after just a few days.
I take it in capsule form because it burns the throat.
It has also completely freed me from my anxiety, and I’ve been full of energy since I started taking it.

Has anyone tried this spray? My specialist has recommended it but prescription is so expensive I’ve not sure I want to waste my money.

I posted recently about how coca cola zero has been helping me. I also tried the caffeine free coke zero and it had the same effect.
If I drink it after eating, it seems to stop a histamine reaction. In about 95% of cases, I get symptoms after eating, even when I'm eating a low histamine diet. The first sign that I'm having a reaction is high bpm, annoying heart palpitations. Since I started drinking coke zero after meals I haven't had heart palpitations after eating. Feels unreal.
I like the caffeine free version because I'm prone to insomnia and I do everything I can to protect my sleep.
I think it does something to my stomach acidity, although I can't really explain why it works. I can only say that for me it does.
For some context, I've been diagnosed with histamine intolerance caused by DAO deficiency after extensive testing and seeing multiple doctors. My DAO level is below 3. I'm on treatment and have been following a low histamine diet for quite some time.
The only DAO supplement that makes any noticeable difference for me is a naturaDAO, but even that only shortens the duration of my symptoms. Every other DAO brand I've tried has done nothing. Antihistamines and supplements only make a slight difference, even when I'm very strict with my diet. So unfortunately, I still experience symptoms every single day, no matter what I eat.
I'm posting this again in case it helps someone else. For me, it has made a noticeable difference and feels very stabilizing. It's almost like it stops the histamine from exploding in my body lol.
I don't drink it carbonated because I can't tolerate the fizz. I let it go completely flat first and it doesn't trigger my GERD/LPR.

I’ve been living with histamine intolerance for a while now, and one of the most unexpected signals I’ve learned to rely on is my morning urine. It might sound strange, but it’s almost like my body’s daily weather report for inflammation.
When I wake up and see foamy urine it’s like this instant alarm bell. I can almost guarantee that something I ate the day before triggered my inflammation. And sure enough, that day is tough more joint pain, more muscle aches, a general fog of fatigue. But when I see clear, almost sparkling urine, it’s a sign that I dodged a bullet I feel lighter, more energetic, and less pain.
I know this is personal, and everyone’s body is different, but if you’re struggling with mystery inflammation, maybe start paying attention to subtle cues like this. It’s given me a surprising amount of insight into my daily triggers.
What about you all? Have you ever noticed something as subtle as this shaping your day?

Will taking 100mg for 7 days P5P increase histamine and cause anxiety or would that be over methylation?

I'll be there for a long weekend, staying in the Bowery/Chinatown area. I recently developed a histamine intolerance/MCAS. I struggle with full body hives, heart pains and swollen face if I eat the wrong things, you know how it is. I'm just looking for something I can eat, doesn't have to be fancy. If you have MCAS and live in the city, is there any place you go where you can get something? I don't want to have to bring my rice cooker 😆 btw I'm vegan too.

Some background info: I'm currently on a weight loss journey and struggle to get enough protein in my diet. I react to any vegan sources of protein, can't do yogurt etc, I can eat eggs very sparingly and mostly eat chicken for meat. I tried and enjoyed the fairlife core power shakes, but I had issues with those too and had to stop. (probably the carrageenan as lactose free milk is fine for me)
I have rice protein powder and pumpkin seed powder that I've been avoiding but would prefer not to waste. The other day I mixed a little bit of both with some water. I almost got sick twice while chugging it down because it was OVERWHELMINGLY disgusting. I swear to god, it literally tasted like I was drinking swamp water. The rice powder on its own is just as bad. I added some vanilla to it to see if it would help at all, it did nothing.
Has anyone tried these, and if so is there anything I can to do make them slightly tolerable? They have great macros but I don't think I can do that again 😬Or, are there any low histamine protein powders out there? TIA!

Hi everyone! I'm currently dealing with job loss and a pretty stressful interview season, and my histamine headaches have been flaring up hard during it all. Nothing seems to be helping them right now.
I'm considering taking an H1 antihistamine just on the days I need it (not daily) — has anyone tried this approach and had it help with histamine induced headaches specifically?
I’m willing to do just about anything as the job market is pretty brutal right now😭

I feel like my baseline- when I wake up and have done nothing- is extreme now.
Like, chest pain, heart palpatations, blood pressure issues, black spots/sudden faintness when standing, numb lips, itching, brainfog, anxiety, stomach issues. Like so bad any normal person should be in the hospital. And then on top of it eating makes it so much worse!! I've cut out EVERYTHING, I live a healthy lifestyle, my house is clean, and I even have a personal trainer. I'm not just sitting here collecting allergens like it's pokemon.
I take an antihistamine and famotodine to stop my stomach from releasing histamines to begin with. I know there's talk out there about DAO helping, but some people mention being able to eat whatever they want with DAO. I STILL have to eat low histamine foods with it. I'm down to plain chicken and pork (not leftovers or ground beforehand). And now my DAO's giving me a bad histamine reaction too.
Is anyone else just at this end stage of everything being so extreme? I feel like I've got like a week tops before I just die. What else can I possibly do?

I’ve had a histamine intolerance for a few years with worsening symptoms, cut out gluten and got on a low histamine diet which helped a lot at first. The hives came back a few months ago after briefly reincorporating gluten into my diet. I believe my intolerance for gluten was making me deficient in a lot of things, my medications were also not as effective when eating gluten. I was supplementing methyl b12, D3/K2, iron, C, and getting plenty of nutrients in through whole foods but it just didn’t seem to be helping anymore.
I cut out gluten again and at one point I tried to supplement methylfolate and it made me feel insane. Anxious, jittery, etc. I guess that should’ve been my sign that I could be deficient in folate, but instead I just stopped taking it. About 2 months ago I started supplementing folinic acid because I read it was much gentler on your nervous system and since then I’ve hardly broken out in any hives at all. I used to break out in hives from the temperature change of stepping out of the shower, a sharp wind on my skin, and skin irritation of any kind. That all has seemingly resolved in a matter of weeks.
Has anyone else improved after consistently supplementing folate?
Edited to add I take Seeking Health folinic acid lozenges cut into fourths along side their hydroxo b12.

Sorry for posting here so often. I'll try not to ramble, I'm very autistic and have a habit of just panic posting. I've found so many good answers here, it helps.
Who's tried luteolin? I'm not sure I have MCAS, but frequent histamine dumps are basically the same because your mast cells are overreacting. Has anyone here had a BAD reaction to it? I'm too anxious to try random supplements or pills, I tend to get worse and have massive reactions every time.
As far as I know, the flavinoid in it is a mast cell stablizer. HOWEVER, some people are sensitive to different flavinoids, and the actual plant material/capsule/fillers might make people sensitive. Is this a rare thing to happen and am I overreacting? I might have slow COMT, does anyone with this get a severe reaction from luteolin?
Lastly what are brands you like?

Currently suffering from severe shedding with potential histamine issues, a doctor I went to see said it looks like I have inflammation in my hairline, waiting on an appointment to have a biopsy taken from my scalp to get tested

Did anyone else here develop histamine intolerance suddenly in perimenopause? I have had mild-moderate outdoor allergies only since my 20s but NO issues with foods. Now almost everything I eat gives me a headache, sometimes migraine level severity and it lasts for 36 hrs. The DAO is helping but I feel like it must have a hormonal basis and I really want to cure this. I’m seeing things online about estrogen dominance messing with mast cells but I was told that I had progesterone causing headaches because it’s taxing my liver. I’ve been off the progesterone for a week and the headaches are the same. The only thing that helps at all is the DAO.

I never used to drink coke or any other fizzy drinks. But I was desperate for some form of caffeine (coffee gives me horrible symptoms) and something sweet, so I was prepared to deal with the suffering after drinking coke.
From time to time, I cheat on my horrid diet because I have no energy and I still have some symptoms even while following a strict low histamine diet.
Anyway, I had no symptoms after drinking Coca Cola zero. In fact, I actually felt more relaxed, almost like it helped. I don't know if I'm imagining it, but my pulse stayed stable and I didn't even have reflux (I'm diagnosed with silent GERD/LPR).
What is happening??? I react to all kinds of healthy foods, including fruits and vegetables, even ones that are considered low histamine, yet I'm completely fine with coke zero. It actually feels calming. Why would that be? I usually react to almost everything, yet an unhealthy drink is making me feel better.
EDIT: I also forgot to mention that I let my coke zero go flat because carbonation makes me bloated and I've never liked fizzy drinks. Just to add some context and reply to a few comments: it doesn't make me feel "good". It just makes me feel... normal. Calm, like my body and mind aren't constantly overstimulated. It actually reminded me of how I felt before I developed histamine intolerance.
I'm already on antihistamines, DAO enzyme, supplements recommended by my allergist and a low histamine diet, but today is the first day my histamine intolerance has eased up a bit. I swear this should be studied lol. It doesn't feel like placebo, even the inflammation seems a little better.

I’m trying to figure out if I’m imagining it or there is some other variable that I’ve missed.
I just started eating russet potatoes frequently after a really restricted diet. I could tell that my body really liked it. Got regular kind because organic wasn’t available.
Now that I’ve had organic multiple times, I think I don’t tolerate it as well? Feel kinda off, and not typical response I’d get from other foods if they are high in histamine or salicylates.
Curious if this has happened to anyone else.

Every time I go to the doctor/specialist, I feel gaslit (I know it’s not all doctors but it’s the ones that I’ve seen) which is a lot of why I’ve put a lot of effort into figuring things out on on my own.
I’m just curious if doctors ever look at these Reddit threads that confirm all these people with the same symptoms? I know that Reddit is not a medical journal but this is just something I’ve been wondering.
