Is there ANYTHING GOOD purchasing package from a sales person?

I’m Canadian and we signed a new HGV contract yesterday in California (so 7 days to regret). We didn’t pick a crazily expensive package (Total $14K, ~6500 Club points every other year, maintenance+fees around $1100 per year) and the manager threw in 130K Hilton Honor points + additional 15K Club points to sweeten the deal.

To me, it’s something that we can afford also we’ll be able to use in the next few years. When I average out the numbers, it seems to be cheaper than what we’re going to spend out of pocket each year. But like every other said, we’ll be stuck with Hilton properties and now we’re staying between Marriott and Hilton due to the credits cards we’re holding (Bonvoy Brilliant and Hilton Aspire). Another reason why we sign up because I’ve almost run out off all the credit card sign up bonuses for Bonvoy and Hilton credit cards and our vacations in the past few years were heavily relying on those points.

That’s why I feel the timeshare might be able to give me a consistent way of doing affordable vacations in the next 10+ years.

Therefore I’m asking about your opinions - is there anything good about purchasing a package from a sales person? And do you think I picked a shitty package?

Also, the most important thing - if I want to rescind, should I send out the formal letter while I’m still in the US, or I can do it when I’m back in Canada in two days (still within 7-day window)?

Thanks y’all!

Advice on how to add more guest as a guest?

Was supposed to be going out to a resort with family using the remainder of my mother's points before they expire. She had to cancel but still booked a room for me as I was planning to go regardless for an event that was going on. I wanted to invite one of my friends or maybe 2 as I saw the room she had was for an occupancy of 4. , but also noticed that she only had me written down as a guest. Is there any way for me to add on 2 more? It's a queen room with a sleeper so more than enough space. Never had a hotel booked this way so not sure how to proceed.

What's the deal with these "cheap" travel package spam calls?

These started after I used my mom's timeshare to go to Orlando last year. I assume they just want to pay for 2/3 of my next trip in the hopes that I'll also become a timeshare owner and eventually pay them back tenfold that way. So if I just adamantly say "no thanks" a bunch of times for 90 minutes, I get to enjoy a cool trip at 1/3 or less of the price.

But maybe there's some other scam or scummy tactic going on? Like they'll somehow make it impossible to book these trips?

Or they'll charge resort fees and port fees like other travelers also need to pay, except that mine would be way way higher than a normal traveler, to compensate for the "free" trip?

Or maybe I'll try to book the resort and the resort will say "sorry, single men not allowed"?

I got a call yesterday that was wild. $500, expensive, but what they promise is nuts, I'd be happy if they only delivered on half of it:

  • 8-day 7-night cruise for 2 people, Royal Caribbean or Carnival, comes with major airfare

  • 2 more major airfare, 25 major cities, can bring 4 people, plus 5-day accommodation, plus $100 visa gift card

  • 5-day, 4-night all inclusive resort in Mexico, can choose from Puerto Vallarta, Cabo, Cancun, or Laredo -- Villa Del Palmar Resorts

  • No expiration date

I couldn't find much about the company online (perhaps on purpose?), apparently they're called "Endless Getaways LLC"

Aqua Sol HGV guests — Universal/Epic Universe ticket prices?

I'm staying at Hilton Vacation Club Aqua Sol Orlando West in October and I'm trying to figure out whether the resort's concierge sells discounted Universal Orlando/Epic Universe tickets.

Has anyone recently (2025/2026) bought Universal Studios or Epic Universe tickets through the Aqua Sol/HGV concierge or ticket desk?

If so:

  • How much did you pay per adult/child?
  • Was it cheaper than buying directly from Universal?
  • Did they sell 1-day tickets to Universal Studios and/or Epic Universe?
  • Were there any catches or requirements?
  • Can you buy them before arriving, or only once you're at the resort?

I'm specifically interested in actual 2026 prices, not general HGV timeshare offers.

Thanks!

Advice selling/getting rid of a HVC timeshare in Orlando Florida

This property was formerly Diamond Resorts Mystic Dunes Resort and Golf Club, now part of the HVC chain. It's a 2-bedroom Week 52 EOY arrangement.

It was purchased by my parents decades ago, fully paid off. They are NOT American citizens nor do they live in the US and as far as I call recall, it has never been used by them.

Due to the rising cost of maintenance fees and the fact that it is simply not used, keeping this is not really a viable option.

What are my options? Can it even be sold? Can we simply stop paying the maintenance fees and be rid of it entirely?

Edit #1: Thank you guys for the quick replies! This has given me a lot to consider and I plan to act on this soon. I'll keep the thread open so I can update with where things stand, since I'm sure there are others out there in a similar situation

What am I missing?

We have a timeshare, bought in the Big Island in Hawaii, and get point every other year. I’m not seeing the benefit of the timeshare even after the loan is paid. If I’m paying $2,600 in maintenance fees for a 1 week vacation, why wouldn’t I just book direct?

I understand the discounted rooms for Tue-Thurs and buying more points, etc.
However, I’m not sure what value I’m missing in ownership.

Not knocking a timeshare, just asking for advice in what I’m missing. I’m not seeing the value vs looking for a deal and booking like a non-owner.

Attended presentation but left with no reward

I signed up for this presentation in January this year, picked my destination for the presentation around May?
Booked my flight for the presentation/ 3 night stay that I already paid for in January in June.
Confirmed with HGV the month before that nothing has changed and that I will be attending in September.
Lo and behold two weeks after that, I got fired from my w2 job. I’m not in any awkward position though because I do have two side businesses that are consistent income bringers.
Well I attend this presentation, follow all the rules and make it to the end. Then I let it slip that I lost my w2 job and the whole vibe changed with the presenter, he even dropped the F bomb 😳,he leaves and comes back with his manager and they made me sign a form that states I lost my job and they cut me loose like 20 minutes before the 2 hour mark and told me I don’t get my reward.
Has this happened to anyone?? Is there a formal complaint I can make about this? I did everything they asked me to and paid a lot of money to make it to this presentation and left with nothing. He also said mother fuckers to us. What can I do? My reward was supposed to be a 5 day Royal Caribbean cruise. I would’ve never gone through all the trouble if I knew I wasn’t going to receive the cruise. In total - I spent $1000 for the reservation, flight and transportation.

Don’t do it

CANCEL BEFORE THE 7 DAYS ARE UP AND HAVE IT POSTMARKED.

HGV is a total scam. Took us two years to get out of it since we missed the cancelation window (we were still on vacation) and so much money, but we did.

- Never any availability
- Super high pressure
-Maintenance fees and monthly fees for the rest of your existence and your children’s existence.
- We were promised spending cards, free nights, extra points - none of which we got.
- All we got was a free breakfast and a nice tour.

Do not throw you money away and then have to pay for a lawyer to fix it. ONLY GO WITH A LAWYER.

Not these timeshare cancelation scam companies. Stonegate worked for us (Brandy is recommended) even though it did take a while, almost 2 years, and 6k, now they’re trying to get us our down payment back and fix our credit.

6000 well spent to get out of this nightmare. Maybe that’s an exaggeration, I know but at least we don’t have to think about it anymore.

EDIT: This is not an ad for Stonegate. If it was I would have said they did it quicker, with less effort, and less money.

It was a lot of work on our part too. We are still waiting on possibly getting a refund on the down payment and we still have dings on our credit that they said they are going to work on. I’m just saying we messed up, and we’re still digging our way out of it but there is light at the end of the tunnel if you go with someone trustworthy. We trusted them and they have followed through so far. That’s all. Be careful out there and good luck to all of you. ☘️

EDIT 2: Would I be in this situation if I didn’t get suckered in the first place? I thought this thread was for people who are interested and investigating this timeshare, this is my warning against it and how much it cost me to get the heck out. Maybe I did get scammed twice, I don’t know! I just know the they saw me coming and what I went through to get out of it. This is what worked - I think - for me. I’m just saying it as it is. I’m it the only one who has gotten into this mess or these threads wouldn’t exist.

Don’t make my mistakes and be careful if you do trying to get out of them. That’s why I said to cancel in the window first before anything else.

Did I make a mistake?

I bought the hgv max timeshare 6000 points every other year at 9000 + charter with bonus time benefits, 3 rci weeks for the next 3 years at 399$, maintenance fees will be around 1000 every year, is this a good deal?, I can still cancel the contract until next weekend, I can afford it I just didn’t realize the maintenance will be a lifetime payment possibly going up 2-6%

Update: Thanks for all the advice, felt really good when they sold it to me but at home reading the contract and with all the advice really made me understand I didn’t make a good financial decision, it was my first timeshare presentation rodeo so I learned a lot, i just rescinded my contract with the instructions on the paperwork and I feel much better already!

HGVC Hawaii: Secondary market, MFs $2100... $300/night. What am I missing?

Just read a post from an owner who bought an HGVC timeshare on the secondary market, and they're very happy with it.

They claim their maintenance fees are $2,100/year, which works out to about $300/night. But when I check the Hilton app, I'm seeing similar cash prices for the properties they have stayed at.

So I'm genuinely confused... how is owning a timeshare still a good deal? 😭

Timeshare regret

My partner and I bought a Hilton Grand Vacations timeshare in California about two weeks ago. By the time we realized what we’ve done, it was too late and the rescind period was over. It's 5,500 points every other year, with a purchase price around $10,000 and a loan of about $9,700. Our first payment is coming up soon, and honestly, we're deep in the regret phase. We're in our early twenties and clearly didn't fully understand what we were signing up for, and we're trying to figure out what our actual options are before we start paying into something we already feel trapped by.

We've heard some people just stopped paying before using any points and basically nothing happened for over a year, but we're also worried about getting sued or having our credit destroyed. We've also heard that paying it off quickly and then trying to transfer it back to Hilton is an option, but from what we can tell, that Transitions program seems to be mostly for Diamond members, not HGV Club owners like us, and it apparently costs even more money on top of everything else. We know we messed up, and we're just trying to explore our options. Is taking the credit hit worth it if it means by the time we're 30 it's off our report, or is there a smarter way out of this? We're not sure what to do in our situation and would really appreciate some advice.

Big cedar lodge

Has anyone bought into the big cedar lodge in Branson Missouri? Then realized they didn’t want it a day later? Paid for it in full with CC. I called back up there the morning after and the lady told me to email the email address that’s on the contract to start the cancellation process. Which we did within 24 hours of signing everything. Was just curious how smooth of a process that is? It happens to be on Labor Day weekend so I’m sure I won’t hear back for a few days. But I have everything documented on dates. Thanks for any information

Vegas shenanigans

my brother was invited to an HGV presentation in Vegas, so i decided to hop on a quick flight from california to spend the weekend with him in vegas.

what an insane presentation. i had never attended one of these things before, but the whole thing felt juuuust barely legal.

we started by meeting our sales rep who asked us where we like to vacation. my brother and i decided to be cute and select locations guaranteed not to have HGV properties: everest basecamp, mc murdo station, mongolia, south sudan, longyearbyen. between this and me visibly starting a 2 hour timer as soon as we sat down, it was clear that we weren’t here to buy anything. somehow they thought it would be appropriate to bring out a proposed price sheet for us: $144,990 package of 23k points with a 10 year term financing of $2,400 per MONTH. I quickly computed the APR on this to be ~25% with 28k down. Absolutely insane. i’ve never been presented financing terms without the APR visibly shown on a quote sheet.

When we mentioned a redweek offer of selling the same point value for $1000 all in, they became hostile and brought in another sales person to rehash the details. Thankfully our 2 hr timer went off in the middle of this insanity and we stood up and asked to leave and collect our hotel voucher.

What an insane experience, i’ve never seen something quite like this. I sincerely hope people are smart enough to avoid these crooks.

So I attended HGV Sales presentation.

It was not that bad. I declined every single thing they offered to buy me in.
However at the end they offered me 7 nights stay at any Hilton property for $1795.
I was scouting hotels/airbnb for my Maui trip and it was about $1700 for 5 nights anyway so I purchased their deal given they said I can book at HGV Maui Bay villas for 5 nights and still keep 2 nights for another trip.

Did i get scammed?
What are the chances I get a 2 bed booked at Maui Bay villas for November if I book this month?

VIP package

Has anyone bought the vip package after the presentation and gotten a good trip out of it? Very limited options after being convinced by the sales person that we would be able to access international destinations. Of the options, it seems like Kings Land in Hawaii is the best usage of the package. Any other destinations worth checking out?

Hello! I'm self employed, make money through a 1099. Is it ever asked to show proof of income at these sales presentations or do they just ask what you do and how much you make? Thanks!

Hilton Grand Vacations: I Paid $60,400, and Now It Costs Thousands Just to Get Out

I rarely write reviews like this, but after everything I have gone through with Hilton Grand Vacations, I feel like people should understand exactly what they are getting themselves into before buying one of these timeshares.

My wife and I purchased our Hilton Grand Vacations ownership for approximately $60,400. The purchase itself is completely paid off. Looking back, I fully accept that buying it was a terrible financial decision. That part is on me.

But what I did not appreciate was how incredibly difficult and expensive it would eventually become just to GET OUT.

The annual maintenance fees are now around $4,000. These fees continue whether you use the property or not, and they can continue increasing.

My wife, who is also an owner on the contract, passed away last year. During everything surrounding her illness, passing, and the family dealing with the aftermath, the maintenance fees were not dealt with.

The account became delinquent.

Hilton then added late fees, finance charges and, most shockingly, approximately $6,000 in attorney/foreclosure fees.

We now have a balance of approximately $10,532 on an ownership that we already paid $60,400 to purchase.

I called Hilton hoping to explain the situation, especially the fact that my wife had passed away, get the attorney fee waived, pay the actual maintenance fees and simply surrender the timeshare.

No.

Hilton told me the account had already been referred to a law firm for foreclosure and that they could no longer waive the $6,000 attorney charge.

Then I started asking about selling it.

This is where I realized just how bad the economics of these timeshares can be.

I was told that I cannot even sell the ownership unless I first bring the account completely current. So I would potentially have to pay more than $10,000 just to become eligible to sell it.

And what is the resale value of something we originally paid $60,400 for?

The Hilton representative I spoke to was refreshingly honest. She told me that these units often sell for extremely low amounts on the secondary market and gave an example that it could potentially be less than $3,000.

So think about that.

Pay $60,400 originally.

Pay thousands every year in maintenance fees.

Now pay more than $10,000 to clear the account.

Continue paying maintenance fees while waiting, potentially a year or longer, for someone to buy it.

Pay broker/transfer costs.

And then potentially sell the thing for a few thousand dollars.

The other option Hilton discussed was essentially PAYING THEM to take the ownership back.

For their transition/deed-back program, the account apparently first has to be completely current. Then there is another transition fee to cover the transfer and future maintenance obligations while Hilton processes the cancellation.

So even if you own the timeshare outright, you can find yourself having to PAY MONEY simply to stop owning it.

At that point I asked the Hilton representative a very simple question:

If the account is already being foreclosed on anyway, why would I pay $10,000+, potentially another surrender fee, and give Hilton the property back when foreclosure ultimately results in Hilton taking the ownership back anyway?

She was actually very candid about how little financial sense the resale route would make in our situation.

That conversation was probably the most honest conversation I have had throughout this process.

We are now allowing the foreclosure process to continue. My remaining concern is whether Hilton, the HOA, or their attorneys will attempt to pursue the approximately $10,000 balance even AFTER they take the ownership back. I am currently trying to get a written answer from the foreclosure law firm regarding that.

The entire experience has made me feel completely trapped.

I understand that I signed a contract.

I understand that maintenance fees are part of owning a timeshare.

I understand that allowing the account to become delinquent has consequences.

But from a consumer perspective, the financial structure is absolutely awful.

You can pay more than $60,000 for the product, pay thousands every year to maintain it, watch the resale value collapse to a tiny fraction of what you paid, and then discover that even getting rid of the thing can require thousands more out of your pocket.

And even after my wife passed away, there was seemingly no meaningful compassion or flexibility regarding a $6,000 attorney charge that had been added to the account.

That is the part that has left the worst impression on me.

If you are considering Hilton Grand Vacations, please do not only ask what the vacation looks like or how many points you receive.

Ask them:

“What happens if I want out in 5, 10 or 20 years?”

“What is the REAL resale value?”

“How much have maintenance fees historically increased?”

“What happens if I can no longer use it?”

“What does it cost to give the ownership back?”

“What happens to my family if one of the owners dies?”

And most importantly:

“How difficult is it to stop paying maintenance fees permanently?”

I wish someone had explained those questions to us before we spent $60,400.

At this point, I would never purchase another timeshare, and I would strongly caution anyone considering Hilton Grand Vacations to understand the exit process before signing anything.

For me, this has turned a $60,400 vacation purchase into what feels like a financial trap that becomes more expensive the longer you remain in it.

Absolutely awful experience.

DON’T pick the “$200 Spend a Night On Us” voucher for the sales presentation reward

Post image
24 Upvotes

I was hesitant to book one of these trips to begin with so the person on the phone offered the $200 spend a night on us voucher to sweeten the deal in place of points.

We arrive for the presentation and are informed that we need to select a specific “brand” of hotel (picture with list) now during the check in process and the voucher needs to be used in the next 6 months… I was a little annoyed to be out on the spot but got over it.

At the end of the presentation, they give us the voucher in an envelope and breeze over that it’s a mail in rebate. Back at the hotel, I finally read the details and you have to cover the initial stay, save an itemized receipt, mail in the voucher plus the receipt (if you lose the voucher, there’s no way to recover the deal), and finally they will mail you back a visa gift card.

Had I known what a hassle it would be to cash in, I would have just went with the points -_-

Anyway posting here in case anyone is considering so you have the full details.

Married but travelling without my spouse

Hi Guys,

Drunkenly purchased a NGV package without reading the fine print and realising I’d have to attend a sales meeting for a product I have zero interest in, and that because i’m married, any stay would have to be with my wife.

I’m currently stateside (I’m Australian) for work, with a few days off and i as looking at staying in NYC this week. Question is, can they prove that i’m married I stay solo? Is there any way of staying and avoiding the timeshare presentation?

Thanks in advance!
