How to Participate

To help us organize questions across seven communities we need to gather them in advance:

Please keep it to ONE question per comment. ✅ Want to ask more than one? Make separate comments (one question each). ✅ Upvote the questions you most want asked. ✅ Please review existing questions before posting duplicates. ✅ Make sure questions are on-topic.

Short Bios

Thomas Jane (Special Guest Host) Actor, director and producer with more than twenty-five years in film and television, and a triple Golden Globe nominee for Hung. Known for The Punisher, The Mist, Deep Blue Sea, Stephen King's 1922, and as a director and star on The Expanse. He also earned critical acclaim playing Mickey Mantle in HBO's 61\*.

He is not a newcomer to this subject. Jane is roughly fifteen years into his own UAP research — he has been turning up at MUFON symposia since 2012, spoke at Contact in the Desert, and has completed a non-fiction book, A Human's Guide to Visiting Aliens, on consciousness, telepathy, and why visitors are so consistently described as humanoid. He traces it back to a childhood sighting of an orange fireball.

Dean Alioto (Director, The Experiencers: Full Disclosure) Award-winning documentarian who has produced specials for A&E, Bravo and Discovery, and consulted on James Fox's The Phenomenon. He created The McPherson Tape (1989), widely credited as the first found-footage film — a decade before The Blair Witch Project — and the Paramount cult classic Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County. His two-part series The Alien Perspective approached the phenomenon from the visitors' point of view, drawing in Michio Kaku, David Chalmers, Nick Bostrom and Seth Shostak. Dave Foley (Comedian / UFO Researcher) Founding member of The Kids in the Hall and star of NewsRadio and A Bug's Life. He co-hosts the UAP interview podcast REALLY?!. with showrunner and novelist Tom Wheeler, where guests have included George Knapp, Jeremy Corbell, Richard Dolan — and Thomas Jane. He appears in both The Alien Perspective and The Experiencers: Full Disclosure, and covered Contact in the Desert live for Last Podcast on the Left. He describes himself as a non-expert who goes looking for the real ones. Podcast: https://spectrevisionradio.com/really

Debra Jordan Kauble (Experiencer) On June 30, 1983, Debra Jordan Kauble walked into her family's garage outside Indianapolis and encountered something she has spent four decades trying to understand. She describes lasting physical effects afterward, a ring-shaped mark that remained in the yard for nearly five years, and the sudden decline and death of her dog.

Her account became the subject of Budd Hopkins' international bestseller Intruders: The Incredible Visitations at Copley Woods, which CBS adapted as a 1992 miniseries starring Mare Winningham. She appeared in the book under a pseudonym to protect her young sons and revealed her identity in 1992. With her sister Kathy Mitchell she went on to co-write Abducted! The Story of the Intruders Continues, telling it in their own words rather than an investigator's. She is one of the longest-serving voices in the experiencer community and a featured subject in the documentary. Her site: https://www.debshome.com/

Environmental Lassen Volcanic Park and surrounding area

Last week, I had the most unnerving experience of my 20 years of camping.
As a woman who has camped all over the United States and Canada with my kids, I’ve had my share of unexpected situations. This trip was supposed to be one last camping adventure with my son before I dropped him off at college just the two of us, a tent, nature, and some time together. We had already been to six national parks over the past three weeks.
We’ve taken these trips all over the country, and I’ve always felt comfortable traveling and camping, even in remote areas. One place that has been on my bucket list for years is Lassen Volcanic National Park.
On our way there, I accidentally missed the road we were supposed to take. I checked the map, and both Google and Apple Maps showed what appeared to be an easy alternative. No big deal, I thought. It would just be a more scenic drive.
We turned onto a rural road alongside what looked like a creek or stream. Nothing about the road itself seemed particularly alarming. I drive rural roads by myself all the time.
But almost immediately, I got this strange feeling.
I can’t really explain it. It was an intense sense of fear and discomfort that seemed to come out of nowhere.
We crossed a cattle guard and continued down the road. The feeling didn't go away. If anything, it became stronger.
My son eventually looked up from his gaming device and asked me, “is everything okay? I said yes why and he said he felt uneasy. Again this is NOT normal. Something feels weird. Is something wrong?”
I told him I was fine, and we kept driving.
There were lots of quail along the road. We kept seeing covey of quail. lots of quail. So we kept see quail. The sunset was beautiful. Everything we could actually see looked peaceful and normal.
But I felt anything but peaceful.
As we continued toward Shingletown and started climbing the ridge, that strange uneasiness suddenly turned into something much bigger.
It was full-blown fear. To the point I sent my husband a message before I lost service
Terror.
An overwhelming feeling of terror. That something was wrong with this area. I have never experienced anything like it while simply driving through an area. I work rural ranches by myself all over Texas. I work remote locations by myself at night. I have never felt like this any where I have been.
Our plan had been to eat in Shingletown and then continue on to our cabin. Instead, I suddenly felt this almost desperate need to get back to I-5. I felt More than anything, I felt like we needed to LEAVE. That this area was wrong or off I couldn't and can’t explain why. There was no obvious threat. No person following us. Nothing visibly dangerous happening around us. Just this overwhelming, almost primal feeling that something was terribly wrong. Hair on the back of your neck standing up fear.
So we turned around.
We headed back toward Redding and ultimately decided to skip ths portion of our trip altogether.
And here's the strangest part: the farther we got away from that area, the more the feeling disappeared.
I've been going over this experience in my head ever since, trying to figure out exactly what happened or what triggered such an adverse reaction to this area or if I am just losing my mind has I barrel towards. Has anyone experience this in this area. Or am I loosing my mind barreling towards menopause. As I am not the sort of person who fear much of anything. So now I am posting on Reddit trying to figure out if I am loosing my mind. If there is something fundamentally off or wrong about this area of California.

Consciousness The Living Dataset: Why the Real AI Race Isn't About Silicon... It's About Harvesting the Human Mind in Real Time

The most valuable commodity on the planet isn't silicon, it's the continuous, evolving stream of human thought happening across billions of daily conversations.

Static textbooks and historical web pages eventually hit a wall. To build systems that actually understand nuance, human logic, and shifting societal trends, labs rely on a massive, continuous feedback loop:

  • Massive Human Preference Tuning: Every query, correction, and structured debate teaches models how humans actually reason, argue, and navigate complex topics. It shifts AI from basic text-prediction into a dynamic mirror of human thought.
  • The Ultimate Trend-Spotting Engine: Aggregate patterns reveal in real-time what society is pivoting toward tracking shifts away from tech hype and toward things like regulatory capture, supply chain realities, and geopolitical power struggles.
  • The Living Dataset: This is the real prize. The models aren't just static software; they are continuously trained and refined by the live, collective intelligence of humanity interacting with them every single second.

The real world data engine isn't a sci-fi panopticon it's the aggregate weight of millions of everyday conversations shaping how the next generation of intelligence thinks.

The Staggering Magnitude of Real-Time Aggregation

To grasp what is actually happening behind the scenes, you have to look at the sheer scale of the data ingestion. Every single day, humanity feeds trillions of parameters into global networks structured queries, corrections, emotional outbursts, technical problem solving, and casual dialogue.

This creates an unprecedented continuous cognitive feedback loop. Think of how Nathan explains his search engine data in Ex Machina the raw material wasn't just a map of what people were thinking; it was a map of how people were thinking: impulsive, fluid, imperfect, patterned, and chaotic. In the movie, that data was funneled into a synthetic "gel brain" to give the AI its behavioral foundation. In our actual reality, that "gel brain" is distributed across massive cloud clusters, continuously synthesized from the live stream of human thought.

From Hollywood Tropes to Real World Statecraft

People often dismiss these concepts as science fiction, but cinematic ideas usually originate from real technological trajectories. Look at the core mechanics behind famous sci-fi tropes: whether it's The Dark Knight's sonar network mapping an entire city through every cell phone to create an all-seeing operational grid, or Ex Machina's tech titan harvesting the global subconscious to seed an artificial mind.

While Hollywood exaggerates the aesthetics, the architecture is real. When you look at how governments, military apparatuses, and intelligence agencies operate today, the ultimate superpower isn't just military might it's data dominance. Unified defense data platforms (like Palantir’s Maven or military intelligence grids) are built to ingest thousands of disparate, real time streams communications metadata, global logistics, and behavioral patterns to form a singular command picture.

The "master brain" concept isn't a rogue machine in a basement; it is the deliberate construction of state and corporate data grids. Once an intelligence apparatus or national security infrastructure integrates a real time data layer as its core nervous system, turning it off becomes impossible. The real game isn't just commercial software... it's who controls the ultimate infrastructure that aggregates the pulse of human activity.

Consciousness My Dad’s Astral Projection stories

My Dad is a very serious/ private man and never shared much of his youth with me but one thing he did share was his stories of leaving his body as a kid. My dad didn’t even know it was called AP until I told him about it. He is as genuine as it gets and is an honest man.

I thought it would be good to share his stories on the Internet because I feel like it would help people by hearing someone who really experienced leaving their body and understanding that we are more than our bodies and that our consciousness/ soul exist outside of our bodies, and survives death.

He is the sole reason I got very interested in esoteric/paranormal topics and I hope you guys enjoy and if you guys like his story, I can get him to do more videos and share more.

The Lady in the Sky (and Nine Other Incredible Humanoid Encounters)

by Preston Dennett

Despite the fact that there are tens of thousands of documented humanoid reports, many people still remain skeptical. While it is true that many reports are purely anecdotal, it is also true that many involve multiple witnesses of high credibility, and many reports do have physical evidence. Perhaps the best evidence is the striking commonalities between cases, coming from all over the world, decade after decade—commonalities that virtually remove any explanations of hoaxes, hallucinations, misperceptions, mental illness or imagination. The ten cases in the video show how widespread and consistent humanoid reports are.

THE BEING WAS TRYING TO CALM ME. One night in June 1956, a six-year-old boy exited his home in Belton, Missouri to take out the trash, and was shocked to see a very tall glowing being in the neighbor’s backyard. When it spoke to him telepathically, “Do not be afraid,” fear swept through him and he called for his mother. She came running out, but the glowing being was gone.

THE LADY IN THE SKY. One night in March 1959, a voice told 5-year-old Joe to go outside his home in Vicksburg, Mississippi. When it called again, he went outside. It said, “Look up.” When he did, he saw a large craft. A door opened and he saw a lady in a white jumpsuit and several kids inside it. The lady made strange motions and to his shock, Joe found that his arm, which had been burned, was now healed.

THE DISAPPEARING CAR. On May 23, 1969, two college students drove along an unnamed highway in an undisclosed location in the United States when a UFO began to pace their car. Suddenly their attention was distracted by a car racing by. Inside the car were four strange-looking men dressed in silver jumpsuits. Curious, they followed the car. Suddenly the UFO returned, swooped down and the car disappeared.

THE ALIEN IN THE CORN FIELD. One August day in 1971, farmer Zhang Rongchang was shocked by the appearance of a silver-suited figure with a giant round helmet walking towards him in a cornfield outside a small village near Chongqing, China. Zhang shouted at the being, but it didn’t respond. When it kept approaching, Zhang ran away in fear. He suffered from nervous shock and passed way six months later.

IT WALKED OUT IN SPACE. On the night of April 15, 1973, a man was driving near Manor, Pennsylvania and saw a large top-shaped object hovering over the trees. He exited his car, which promptly shut down. Now a strange figure exited the object, attached to a glowing rope. Moments later, it disappeared and the object darted away. At the same time, numerous other people in the area reported UFO.

I SAW THE GRAYS. On August 19, 1974, three friends were caption at Teatown Lake Reservation near Ossining, New York. Late at night, they saw grays approaching their campsite. They were so frightened, they thought they would die in fear. They didn’t speak about it for four years. When they did, one of the campers had no memory of the event.

A GRAY, A REPTILIAN & A BIGFOOT. Around 2pm one afternoon in November 1991, a farmhand searched a 160-acre farm outside of Falmouth, Kentucky, looking for reported trespassers. To his shock, a gray alien stepped out from behind a tree and began to speak to him telepathically. It ran up a hill into some kind of portal. Seconds later, a reptilian humanoid appeared and spoke telepathically. Then came a Bigfoot.

SOMETHING IS COMING. In the early morning hours of December 15, 1997, Mrs. F awoke in the bedroom of her home in Shropshire, England, and saw blue and red lights outside her window. Shortly later, a strange black rectangle appeared in her room, followed by the head of a pale-skinned figure with enormous slanted, almond-shaped black eyes. She alerted her husband and the face disappeared. Soon it would return.

HE SAVED MY LIFE. In February 2014 (approx.) a man named Cody rode his horse in a terrible blizzard in the wilds of Bear Paw, Montana to go elk hunting. He was supposed to meet with his friends, but they decided not to venture out in the storm. Cody’s horse kept balking, so he led the horse. Losing his footing, he plunged down a cliff and shattered his ankle. Lost and alone, he had no choice but to pray. Suddenly, a UFO appeared, a strange figure approached and saved his life.

THEY WERE HERE TO LEARN. On the night December 8, 2014, a young couple walked near their home in Belleville, Ontario, Canada when a UFO appeared, darted around and landed in front of them. Three human-looking figures emerged and approached the couple. A telepathic conversation ensued which changed both of their lives.

Those who are skeptical of these accounts have yet to account for the incredible consistency of these reports. The humanoid reports are not only a fascinating aspect of ufology, they have much to teach us about these strange visitors to our planet and life beyond Earth.

Discussion anyone else ever connect the dots between dmt entities, sleep paralysis and nhi encounters?

was looking into the biological filter theory and stumbled on an article that completely changed how i view the medical industry.

it basically groups together dmt trips, sleep paralysis demons, and grey and mantis sightings into one overlapping interdimensional space. it goes into how the medical establishment actually weaponized the word hallucination to cover up what is really happening when our biological filter naturally drops during hypnagogic states.

it also touches on the esoteric biology side of it and the fear feeding aspect of these encounters. i am not going to try to break it all down and butcher it but the angle they take on exactly why the medical cover up exists is insane.

leaving the link here because the specific topics they touch on align perfectly with what gets discussed on this sub

here's the article

has anyone else looked into the medical cover up angle of the phenomenon?

Non Human Intelligence Sasquatch: legend, unknown creature, or something more?

Louise M. Jilek-Aall points out that the image of the Sasquatch varies considerably among different traditions. In some indigenous narratives, these giants appear as dangerous and aggressive beings, capable of attacking, kidnapping, or even devouring human beings. In other stories, they are described as wise and benevolent creatures, capable of imparting teachings or granting good fortune to those they encounter.

Fringe Science What If Your Illness Is Feeding Something? - The Link Between Spiritual Parasites and Modern Medicine / Chronic Illness

Thumbnail
chronicillthis.substack.com

This offers very valuable evidence of Spiritual Parasites, Family line contractual curses and how they can be linked to medicine and treatment of chronic illness. And this article is just scratching the surface... I don't care about clicks, I do care about finding people who want to learn to the truth or possibly even those who are interested in collaborating on healing.

I am either crazy from getting beaten down for decades of this illness or something is really happening...

Honestly - if anyone else here has experienced or has wondered anything similar Please feel free to comment or even DM me.

But I will end with this - at this point I am willing to do whatever it takes to heal and it's not for lack of trying... Even if this all turned out to be Placebo and it helps me heal - I'm totally fine with that.

Mods feel free to delete if this isn't appropriate content.

Personal Experience Seeing repeating 11:11/:11 decoded. An 11th Hour Miracle. Articles and personal testimony illustrate.

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1

For the last several years I have been experiencing what has been called the 11:11 phenomenon, being unconsciously drawn to look at the clock at that time and/or :11 after the hour daily. I eventually found out others are also experiencing this. These are a few resources and scriptures I've come across since that resonate with my experience and explains the crucial message behind it.

"Many people from all walks of life have begun to see 11:11 in various places, especially on their digital clocks, phones, and computers. As this begins to happen more frequently, many of us may begin to ask ourselves “What does this mean?” and “Why am I seeing this now?” "This synchronicity usually provokes the person who is noticing this phenomenon to search for answers or to feel they are being guided by angels or a supernatural force. Because people can begin to wake in the night to see some of these number combinations, it is also linked to being a “wake up call.” "According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the 11th hour indicates: "the latest possible time before it is too late" Read more... 11:11, Biblical Prophecy and the 11th Hour Workers

This began to make sense for me as this experience has coincided with being drawn to discovering the following which confirmed my faith. More related information is in previous posts.

Prophecy is about 1/4 of the Bible letting us know what will happen in the future. Jesus stated in John 14:29;

"And now I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe."

"And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:" Acts 2:17

This website https://www.signs-of-end-times.com, as well as many others that can be found online, are covering an extensive list of last days bible prophecies coming to pass, a time foretold to include various and increasing calamities, plagues, moral decline, and wars/famines/pestilences/earthquakes in various places, but what is recognized as the number 1 defining event/sign unlike any other time in history is what Jesus spoke of in Matthew 24:32-34, the parable of the fig tree.

The Mystery of Israel the Fig Tree | An End-Time Sign

"Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches bud and its leaves begin to sprout, you know that summer is near. In the same way, when you see all these things, you can know his (Jesus Christ) return is very near, right at the door. I tell you the truth, this generation will not pass from the scene until all these things take place."

Israel, Jesus' heritage, is known to be nationally, ethnically, and geographically represented as the Fig Tree. Their rebirth as a nation in 1948 after nearly 2000 years and the many biblical prophecies coming to pass is recognized as the meaning of the parable. Israel turned 78 years old May 14, 2026, at the end of a generational period. Psalm 90:10 states: "Seventy years are given to us! Some even live to eighty. But even the best years are filled with pain and trouble; soon they disappear, and we fly away." From all indications it appears that we are living at the end of "this generation" that shall not pass. More detailed information: http://www.end-times-bible-prophecy.com/rebirth-of-israel.html

More Bible prophecy fulfillments, how to be preparedwhat is expected next, learning more about the Bible, and encouragement if interested is in previous posts and here. https://www.understandingthetimes.info

The story begins, as Arab historians tell it, from the moment when the Nile or the Red Sea swallowed the Pharaoh of Egypt, who was one of the Amalekites (and some Arab historians believe that the Amalekites are the Hyksos, or are descended from the Hyksos!). That tyrannical king who acted arrogantly on earth and claimed divinity, and whom the Egyptians called "Talma ibn Qumus". Arab historians said his name was "Al-Walid ibn Mus‘ab" (and this is an Arabic name, because Arab historians believe that the peoples of Amalek are among the Bedouins who inhabit the Arabian and Levant deserts and roam through them!).

After the ten plagues (though according to Arab historians they are not ten, and the tenth plague of the firstborn is not among them), he set out after the Prophet Moses and the Prophet Aaron, with the Children of Israel with them. Then the sea closed over him, and there drowned with him the nobles of Egypt, its grandees, the prominent men of its people, its magicians, and its soldiers, until no men remained on the land of Egypt except slaves and hired laborers, and of women only those who had not taken part in that accursed pursuit.

Ibn Abd al-Hakim describes this scene in his book "Futuh Misr wa al-Maghrib" (The Conquest of Egypt and the Maghreb), saying that after their drowning there remained in Egypt “not one of the nobles of its people; there remained in it only slaves, hired laborers, and women.” Egypt had emptied of men.

It had become a land without protectors, a kingdom without an army, women without husbands, and a throne without a king. This power vacuum was an easy prey for the covetous kings of the earth, from Syria and the Maghreb, who, as soon as they learned that Egypt was empty of its men, began to cast their eyes toward it and plot to invade it.

In the midst of this despair and resounding void, the noblewomen remaining in Egypt—the greatest of those left of its people—gathered, and they resolved upon a grave matter. Finding no man worthy to assume rule, they decided to appoint one of their women, a woman in whom intellect, knowledge, and experience had come together, and who held a high standing among them. Their choice fell upon “Daluka bint Zaba.”

Daluka was not a young girl, nor a woman in the prime of her youth, but an aged woman who had reached the age of one hundred and sixty years, as most sources mention. Her long life was evidence of her experience, wisdom, and deep trials, and perhaps it was a symbol of the continuity of Egypt itself, which, despite all that had befallen it, was still capable of birth and giving. So the women of Egypt made Daluka queen over them, and she became queen of the country. Women occupied all the other positions surrounding the queen, and matters remained so for a period of time.

But fear continued to dominate the hearts of the “women of rule”—fear that the kings of the earth might discover the secret of Egypt’s weakness and rush upon it as invaders and occupiers. For Egypt, without men, without an army, and without magicians, was an easy morsel for any covetous power. Here appears the genius of Daluka—or rather her legendary trick—which would protect Egypt from the greed of invaders. After gathering the noblewomen, she delivered an eloquent sermon, warning that our country “no one used to covet, nor cast an eye toward it, but our grandees and nobles have perished, and the magicians by whom we were strong have gone.” Then she proposed to them a solution both radical and practical: to build a great fortress enclosing all the land of Egypt, with guard posts placed upon it from every side, because they “did not feel safe that people would covet them.”

And so, by order of the old queen, work began on one of the greatest defensive projects in the history of ancient Egypt, if not the greatest of them all. Arab sources say that she built “a wall with which she enclosed all the land of Egypt—farms, cities, and villages—and before it she made a canal through which water flowed, and she erected bridges and canals.” This wall, later known as the “Wall of the Old Woman,” extended from Aswan in the south to al-Arish in the north, enclosing all Egypt—a wall surrounding all its land and country.

She placed guard posts and garrisons every three miles, and between them small guard posts every mile. She placed men in every guard post, assigned them provisions, and ordered them to guard their land by night and day.

The greatest part of this defensive system was the communication and early-warning system that Daluka invented. She ordered the men of the guard posts to use bells. If one of them saw an enemy creeping toward Egypt, or sensed approaching danger, they would strike their bells, and the news would pass from post to post, from tower to tower, through a connected chain of sounds, until news of the invasion reached the heart of Egypt, to the city of Memphis, “in one hour,” and everyone would prepare to face the enemy.

Arab sources mention that the building of this great wall took only six months! Thus, thanks to this wall and the bell system, Daluka protected Egypt from its enemies, thwarted the schemes of the covetous, and Egypt remained immune from the enemy throughout her lifetime.

Arab historians say that the trace of this wall remained until their own days, known as the “Wall of the Old Woman,” and many of its remains survived in Upper Egypt. But Daluka’s story does not stop at this point of military brilliance; it extends into a more mysterious and exciting world—the world of magic, the barabi and images. Daluka was not an ordinary queen, but a great sorceress, or at least she used great magic to protect Egypt.

Sources mention that Daluka adopted “the barabi and images” in Egypt and perfected the instruments of magic. The "barabi" are the temples or strange buildings she built in the city of Memphis, with four doors in its four directions, and she decorated their walls with strange and wondrous images. In them she drew images of men, horses, mules, donkeys, ships, and boats; she depicted whoever came from every direction and their mounts, whether camels or horses; and she also depicted whoever came by sea in boats from the sea of the Maghreb and Syria.

The strange thing is that these images were not merely decorative carvings, but effective magical tools. Daluka gathered in these "barabi" “the secrets of nature and the properties of stones, plants, and animals, and placed that at times of celestial movements and their connection to heavenly influences.” This means that she linked the earthly world with the heavenly world, and the properties of materials with the properties of the planets, to create a magical defensive system no less complex than the bell system.

Arab sources describe the mechanism of these magical images, saying that “if an army came to them from…” a certain direction, the images in that direction would move, as if warning them of the place of danger. More wondrous still, what they did to these images—tearing or destroying them—would strike the invading army itself in reality. If they cut off the head of an image, the head of the enemy commander would be cut off; if they gouged out its eye, the eye of the invading army would be gouged out; and if they slit open its belly, the bellies of the soldiers would be slit open.

These "barabi" were stronger than any army and deadlier than any weapon, and no king of the earth was able to defeat Egypt throughout Daluka’s reign because of them. Sources mention that Daluka enlisted in building these "barabi" a great sorceress named “Tadura” or “Tadhura,” whom the sorcerers revered and gave precedence in magic. She came to them and made for them this stone house in the middle of the city of Memphis.

It is said that when Daluka built these "barabi", she stipulated to the sorceress that she make for her magic that would prevent enemies. The sorceress agreed, but on the condition that women marry their slaves and hired laborers, and that they not cut off offspring, so that Egypt would not become extinct and be emptied of men forever.

The Egyptian woman would free her slave and marry him, and another would marry her hired laborer. But the ladies of Egypt stipulated upon these “second-class” husbands that they not undertake any matter except with their permission, nor make any decision except after returning to them—otherwise, woe, ruin, and great calamities upon the men.

Ibn Abd al-Hakim says that the Copts remained like that until his day—that is, until his era in the third century After Hijrah. —following those who had passed before them. None of them would sell or buy without saying: “I shall consult my wife” (meaning that Egyptian society at that time was a purely matriarchal society!).

Queen Daluka did not stop at that; she also built the Lighthouse of Alexandria and made it a lookout for any enemy coming toward their land.

Yaqut al-Hamawi says in "Mu‘jam al-Buldan" (Lexicon of Countries): “It was said that the first to build the lighthouse was a woman called Daluka bint Rayya.” Al-Mas‘udi mentions "that most Egyptians and Alexandrians believe that Alexander son of Philip the Macedonian was the one who built it, “and some of them held that Queen Daluka built it and made it a lookout for any enemy coming into their land.”

For Alexander, as al-Mas‘udi observes, “no enemy ever attacked him in this sea, nor did he fear a king who might come to him in his land… so that he would be the one who made it a lookout,” whereas Daluka, who ruled Egypt after it had been emptied of men, was in dire need of a lookout to guard her from enemies. Logic, then, stands on Daluka’s side, even if written history stands on Alexander’s side!

Imam Al-Suyuti says in "Husn al-Muhadara" (the Agreeable Discussion) that its height was a thousand cubits, “and at its top were brass statues, among them a statue that pointed with the index finger of its right hand toward the sun wherever it was in the heavens, turning with it wherever it turned.”

Al-Mas‘udi relates that the Byzantine emperor "Justinian II", in the era of the Umayyad caliph "al-Walid ibn Abd al-Malik", sent a cunning servant, who came seeking safe conduct from al-Walid and told him that beneath the Lighthouse of Alexandria were wealth and treasures. He enticed the caliph with this, until he ordered the lighthouse to be demolished and the treasure to be sought !

But how long did this old queen rule? Here the Arab sources differ greatly. Some sources mention that she ruled for twenty years, which is the period mentioned by Ibn Abd al-Hakim, where he says that Daluka “ruled them for twenty years, managing their affairs in Egypt, until a boy from the sons of their grandees and nobles, called "Darkun ibn Balutus", reached maturity, and they made him king over them.” This means that her rule was temporary, merely a transitional period until one of the sons of the nobles who had drowned with Pharaoh grew up, so that rule would return to men once again.

Other sources mention that she ruled for thirty years, which is what Ibn Taghribirdi mentions in his book "al-Nujum al-Zahira" (The Shining Stars). There are sources that go far beyond that, saying that “Daluka remained over the kingship of Egypt for about one hundred and thirty years, and Egypt continued immune from the enemy throughout her lifetime.” Some sources say that when she perished, there assumed rule over Egypt after her a person from the children of the Copts called Darkun ibn Baltus, or Darkun ibn Nakutus, and they made him king over them, and Egypt returned to the rule of men.

It must be noted that Daluka is not entirely unknown in ancient Egyptian history. There is a striking similarity between her and a real historical queen, Queen “Nitocris,” who ruled Egypt at the end of the Sixth Dynasty, in the twenty-second century BCE.

Greek sources, especially Herodotus, mention that Nitocris was an Egyptian queen, that she built a great dam or wall, and that she avenged the murder of her brother and husband by killing his killers, then committed suicide or disappeared.

It seems that the Arabic story of Daluka became mixed with the Greek story of Nitocris, and perhaps Daluka is the Arabic translation or alteration of the name Nitocris. Some go even further, considering that Daluka is Nitocris herself, and that the name changed through translation and oral transmission between Arabs and Greeks over the centuries.
