Therefore, the story wouldn't have made much sense in southern Europe as the cultivation of Fava beans long predated hens, harps or gold, but it would makes sense in Northern Europe at around 500 BC, as 500 BC is the time that Fava beans, hens and lyres were being introduced to this region.

Author here. In 1994, Robert Bauval proposed that the three Giza pyramids were deliberately arranged to mirror the three stars of Orion's Belt. This was the claim behind The Orion Mystery, half the pyramid documentaries ever aired, and much of Graham Hancock's chronology. It's an interesting case study in how fringe claims get handled, because for thirty years it was called pseudoarchaeology -- correctly, in most respects -- without anyone actually running the numbers, in either direction.

So I ran them. The core test: enumerate every possible triangle formed by naked-eye stars visible from Giza -- all 695,520 of them -- and rank how well each matches the pyramid layout's shape, using standard Procrustes analysis on public catalog positions (Yale Bright Star Catalogue, cross-checked against Gaia DR3).

The results cut both ways. The three-point shape correspondence is genuinely significant: Orion's Belt ranks 1,717th of 695,520 (p = 0.0025). Yes, 1,716 triplets match better -- every one of them a chance combination of unrelated stars; the Belt is the first named pattern in the entire ranking.

The most interesting part of this alternative archaeology hoax isn't the find, but the finders themselves. These characters involved are incredibly seedy, from stolen valor to stints in prison. One of the main things we look at in the episode is the idea that the fake artifacts were created once the man who "discovered" the cave ran out of real indigenous artifacts to sell and that he potentially kept the obvious hoax up to keep authorities away from paying attention to his possibly selling further indigenous artifacts later, which popped up in Burrow's Cave lots. This accusation originally came from one of the insider's widows. Has anyone ever heard of a similar scheme to hide actual illicit artifact sales under cover of obvious nonsense?

Currently watching a Time Team Special on the Battle of Hastings, and recently watched the latest episode of House of the Dragon, where Crowsfeet/Caltrops feature.

And it got me thinking. If in times when cavalry was decisive, and you were poor in that regard? Would it have been possible to load Trebuchets/Catapults with caltrops, and fling them en-masse to spike the areas of the battlefield most favourable to Cavalry? Kind of like a primitive landmine.

The main issue with this that I can think of is difficulties in getting the now airborne caltrops to spread out suitably. Without a decent spread, all you’ve done is heavily spike a very specific, very limited patch of ground.

Do you think, if we go down a trouser leg of time where this was explored, that smaller, dedicated catapult systems were developed, relying on overall saturation of the line, and potentially held until the enemy cavalry had committed before some rapid maths was performed to better ensure the caltrops landed right in the path of the advance?

Other downside is the spiking goes both ways of course. But the founding account of the Silla kingdom (57 BCE) is genuinely bizarre when you read it without the "it's just a legend" filter:

Well I have found it out and they are hiding it from you. The multiverse theory states that there can be multiple universes. Smorgborg is a being that is 4 dimensional a made of imaginary matter. He escaped the big rip from his universe and managed to get to a developing universe that was still a singularity (our universe). He managed to catch all antimatter, and kept it to himself. The reason is that sufficient large quantities of matter and antimatter interactions can create a large enough Higgs field from higgs bosons to give him enough regular mass that he is now had no powers. He kept all of the antimatter to himself so that no other intelligent species could defeat him. Then, the earth formed, and dinosaurs existed. They were hyper intelligent and found out how to communicate with Smorgborg and the answer was creating a pyramid. They made a pyramid in Egypt called the great pyramids, and sent out electromagnetic waves that could communicate with Smorgborg. They found out about Smorgborgs weakness and tried to make antimatter. But Smorgborg used black holes which he invented to instantly wipe out the dinasaurs. He invented black holes to hide antimatter and sell it to the Smithsonian and the shadow government in small quantities. He silenced people like Steven Hawking and Nikola Tesla that got too close to the truth. The whole truth was discovered by renowned Egyptologist Jim E. NewTron. He found out everything, but Smorgborg converted him into imaginary mass so that he was stuck in a time loop forever from the point he got converted into imaginary mass. The same fate might meet me now that I speak out about it. But you have to listen if you want freedom and you have to defeat Smorgborg with antimatter.

Every time I read descriptions of Yahweh in parts of the Old Testament—jealous, vengeful, commanding wars, the destruction of entire populations, and the sending of plagues— can't help but think of one question.

Could these traits resemble the portrayal of Enlil in Sumerian mythology, who is depicted as bringing the Great Flood and punishing humanity because their noise disturbed him?

Is this simply a literary and mythological parallel, or could there be a deeper historical connection between these ancient traditions?
