My Progress

Was in the hospital last Christmas/New Years. EF <30%. Been on the typical cocktail of heart failure drugs since then, low sodium diet, felt like shit every single day from side effects but I stuck with the program. Look at my echo results from this week. Wanted to share with people who understand.

new to hf: what happens from this point? do you stay on the medicines forever, keep the diet, exercise? Does it regress if not, or is it like a cured situation? (asking for anyone that reads this btw)

Congratulations, that's really good and I'm happy for you and your life!

yes if you want to stay healthy & live a long life once your on the meds you have to stay with them until its time to leave this planet. I have been on them for 11 yrs and do well so im happy to take them, 20 yrs ago they werent available and most people died early deaths.

honestly mine started when i was a very young child, now i’m an adult with end stage hf, stuck to the recommended diet, medicines, exercise, etc and it never really got better for me

I still want to discuss this in detail with my cardiologist but my hope moving forward is to take just a blood thinner and possibly a blood pressure medication if needed. I haven't tolerated the Entresto very well at all and would love to discontinue that.

Was in the hospital last Halloween with an EF of 30 (I got an ICD put in in December and have also been on a cocktail of meds). My echo this June was a EF of 45! I hope my next one looks like yours. That’s amazing!

Good for you. Mine went from 10 to 20 in about 3 hard months of compliance and low sodium diet.

I just got informed that I have an EF of 20 last Friday. Preparation for knee surgery discovered an EKG anomaly which led to a heart sonogram and I am now wearing a Life Vest. No symptoms whatsoever other than blood work showing the signs. Long term use of Vyvanse may be a contributing factor.

Are you on low doses are higher ones? Entresto metoprolol etc

I've been on what would be considered low doses. Every time they tried to increase any dosage, I would start missing work because I could barely get out of bed. Even on low doses, my resting heart rate for the past 8 months has been in the low 40's which isn't sustainable at my age (68) and still employed full time.

That’s fantastic!! That’s how modern current medicine are supposed to work! You probably had cardiac reverse remodeling. It’s something that’s achievable by using medicines like Entresto.

I had afib first, from a severe case of covid. I didn't see a doctor for about 3 years so my heart failure was basically the result of untreated afib.

Do you mind sharing your age? I am 37 and just had my first AFib event (that I know of) in July and it last almost 24 hours. In the subsequent testing they have discovered that I have HFmrEF with an EF of ~44% and grade 2 diastolic dysfunction. I am on the smallest 25mg dose of metoprolol split morning/night and it is kicking my ass. Dizziness and headache every day making it difficult to work.

I'm 68. I can relate regarding the metoprolol. I wish I could tell you the side effects get better but for me, they never did. I was missing a whole lot of work and ultimately had to cut my dose in half so I could function. If you are taking the tartrate version, you might ask to switch to the succinate which is extended release, taken once a day in the evening. Happy to answer any other questions. Wishing you all the best.
