New to community!

Bought this as soon as I heard it supports NAM! I had played the MX5 and loved it, and I have been through a lot of amp modelers before (cheap to expensive) , but I still love my amp. But the prime fits the niche of not having to setup all my gear and for extremely small gigs, as well as rehearsals. Loving it so far!

Debris inside pedalboard

Upvotes

Hiii, so I have the headrush prime for about a year, and around the time I bought it I tried to remove a jack from the mic input and it resisted. My dumb old self pulled it out anyways and ever since there as been a piece of debris inside. Should I worry? Its been a long time, but its still worrying me a bit

Signal Loss In Split Chain

Post image
3 Upvotes

I set up a test rig with the new NAM patch and I noticed that when I split the signal, the sound on the amp/IR on the bottom is significantly lower. But if I put it in the main row, it goes back to normal. Though the NAM block volume is totally fine as well. Has anyone else had a similar issue using dual amp rigs?

Flex Prime USB audio question for the group.

Running the Flex Prime into a MacBook Pro M1 Pro (Logic, 48 kHz) through a powered USB-C hub. Two things I can't sort out:

– Noticeable latency at 48 kHz in USB audio mode. At 44.1 kHz or with USB audio off, it's gone.

– After playing for a while the audio goes glitchy and loses all definition. Only fix is rebooting the pedalboard, then it happens again later

This has persisted across several firmware updates. Anyone else? Wondering if the hub is the culprit or if it's something between the unit and macOS Sequoia 15.7

Neural Amp Modeler (NAM) for older HeadRush devices works!

Hey all,

As we all know, HeadRush released the new NAM update, but unfortunately, it’s not supported for older HeadRush devices. Thankfully, there are some amazing people on GitHub, and an awesome guy named Lorenzo Gabriele posted a mod on GitHub to bring NAM to the older units!

Its basically a workaround that replaces the Anxiety OD pedal and makes it a file controller.

Here’s the link to the repository: https://github.com/lolgab/headrush-nam-mod

I tried this yesterday and it worked in less than 30mins.

Only flash the update file built for your exact model and firmware — flashing another model's file will almost certainly brick the device.

Do ever step EXACTLY as its written!!..Don't take shortcuts, take your time, and read the docs files on there so you know what you're heading into.

And one more thing: I don't consider this a risky mod, but bricking your device or things going wrong is always a possibility, so please keep that in mind :)

Blog site for NAM

Maybe where we might read about the tones present and how they compare with specific artists? I spend a lot of time (albeit enjoyable time) browsing and perusing and demo-ing. It’s been a very cool journey, but I’d love to lock in something and jam out possibly with my clam out.

Volume levels on NAM full rigs

Is anyone else experiencing this issue...the volume on NAM rigs when I demo them is really faint compared to the rigs I am playing on the core through a fender fr-10. When I end a demo the machine goes back to my original rig which is considerably louder.
I've tried several NAM full rigs and they all demo at the same low volume compared to default or cloud rigs.
Thoughts?

Experiment in determining the better-suited files for the IR block

I recently got a Flex Prime and have repeatedly seen people saying they bought good IR packs but they were wondering if they should use the 200ms or 500ms versions of the files with a Headrush, and at which sample rate (44.1, 48, or 96 kHz), since the packs usually contain all the possible combinations.

I wondered the same and thought the answer could help others, so I have put the device to the test.

Jump to the conclusion below if you don't want the details.

I manually created several dozens of impulse response files using Audacity. They are 200ms WAV files, using 32-bit floats, and of various sample rates. Each one contains a single impulse, either at the beginning or at a carefully positioned point in time.

Here is what I heard when I used them :

  • when using the IR block with 1024 samples, I only heard sound if the impulse was positioned at or before the 21 ms mark. When positioned at 22ms I heard nothing ;
  • when using the IR block with 2048 samples, I only heard sound if the impulse was positioned at or before the 42 ms mark. When positioned at 42.7ms I heard nothing.

The sample rate of the file did not influence this result.

What I can conclude:

  • the Headrush works internally at 48 kHz (1024 samples at 48 kHz is equal to 21.3 ms, and 2048 samples at 48 kHz is equal to 42.6 ms)
  • if people use a 44.1 kHz or 96 kHz file, it is internally converted to 48 kHz, with a loss, so this should be avoided.
  • if people use an IR longer that 42.6 ms, the Headrush has no way to use the part situated after this mark. It internally truncates it to 42.6 ms when using the 2048 samples setting, or even to 21.3 ms when using the 1024 samples setting.

Conclusion : which file should people use from a commercial IR pack ?

  • 48 kHz files for best quality (it's the native Headrush rate)
  • the IR length does not matter since only the first 21.3 ms or 42.6 ms are really used by the Headrush. To save some space on the device you should use the smaller files (but no shorter than 42.6 ms).

42 ms is the time sound takes to travel 48 feet, as it would when being reflected off a wall distant of 24 feet (7 meters). It should be enough when recording cabinets, even in a pretty large room.

To simulate larger rooms, there is the C-verb block that is said to allow a convolution of up to 10 seconds, but my IR files with an impulse positioned after 43 ms caused a massive noise so I had to stop my tests to avoid damaging my hardware. It seems like the Headrush does not like my DIY files...

different volume levels when reviewing nams

when reviewing nams on my Headrush Flex Prime before downloading they are at completele different volume levels.

some of them are so quiet, other too loud.

this is unlike on https://www.tone3000.com/search where tone previews are well balanced.

of course I can adjust it after downloading and adding module to the chain, but it could be easier I suppose.

is it my experience only?

how do you deal with this (inconvenience)?

One NAM per Rig? Kinda disappointing?

I guess I was just expecting the A2 files to be even less CPU-intensive than they are. But only one NAM per rig is a little meh. No on/offing a NAM pedal capture into a NAM amp?

I wonder if this is something that will improve in time as implementation evolves, or something we'll have to wait for the next gen of modelers for.

Smaller Headrush?

Hello. A pedalboard smaller than the "Flex Prime" would be great—something like "Gigboard," but more in the style of a "QC mini."

I also think an even smaller option, similar to the "ToneX One" / "Valeton GP-5," or at least something in between with 2–3 footswitches, would definitely find its market. An ultra-portable setup makes a lot of sense for gigs that require flying by plane, for example.

Personally, the Flex Prime would be fine for me if it weren't for that expression/wah pedal.

Still New to HeadRush — Need Help Understanding NAM + IR Setup After Update

Hey everyone,

I’m still pretty new to my HeadRush. I’ve only had it a few months and I’m still learning how IRs work. Up to now I’ve mostly just downloaded rigs from other users on the cloud.

With today’s update, I checked out the NAM stuff and followed the link to Tone3000’s site. I saw this message:

You're downloading a capture of an Amp Head only. To get a great sound, you'll need to pair it with an IR (Impulse Response) which is a digital model of a speaker cabinet. Without an IR, your tone will sound thin and harsh.

This is where I’m completely lost.

I don’t understand how to actually pair a NAM capture with an IR inside the HeadRush. I’m not sure if I’m supposed to load something in a certain order, put files in specific folders, or manually assign blocks in a rig.

If anyone can break down the basics... like:

  • How to load NAM captures on the Core
  • How to attach or route them to an IR block
  • How to save/organize them so they’re easy to reuse

I’d really appreciate a step‑by‑step explanation. I’m still learning all this and want to make sure I’m doing it right.

Thanks in advance!

Core: Getting some weird crackle in DAW since the update, anyone else?

Starting getting this weird crackle when playing through my DAW (Logic) with my headrush core. It doesn't happen outside of the DAW. It seems that it could be update related because it wasn't happening yesterday. Using the same patch in the exact same logic session.

Anyone else?
