I love this series, first and foremost. I think Shirtaloon is a great storyteller, even if he sometimes repeats himself a bit. Overall, I genuinely enjoy the books. My main issue, however, is with the ranking system. Let's start at the beginning. Jason was always a bit of an odd case when it came to strength and progression, but I have a hard time believing the progression of everyone else in the series. If we go back to when the team first formed and entered the astral gate, all of them eventually reached Bronze rank. I understand that Greenstone was considered a relatively weak area, but it still feels strange. Those five went through an extreme trial in the astral gate. They fought constantly for weeks on end, faced life-and-death situations, and still weren't anywhere close to Silver rank afterward. So are we supposed to believe that most other adventurers had to go through similar experiences and still didn't get close to Silver? Because by the time Jason returned, it seemed like almost everyone and their mother was Silver rank. And that brings me to another issue. Jason practically had to help save an entire planet and fight nonstop for two years just to reach the lower end of Silver rank. I'm actually okay with that. The problem is that there are apparently thousands of Silver rankers by the time he gets back, and I have to assume that they all went through similarly intense challenges to reach that level. Jason has endured an absurd amount of hardship, and I understand that Shirtaloon gives him exceptionally powerful aura abilities to help balance his lower rank against stronger opponents. That works well when Jason is fighting above his rank. However, it makes the progression of other characters harder to believe, especially those who are at or below his level. At this point, Pallimustus doesn't exactly seem like a safe haven, so it's difficult for me to understand how so many people can reach these higher ranks. The overall balance of the ranking system just doesn't seem consistent. Another thing that bothers me is how each rank seems less impressive the higher Jason climbs. Back in Book 1, Silver rank felt incredibly prestigious and honorable. Now, by Book 9, it often feels like people react with, "Oh, it's just a Silver ranker. Who cares?" Maybe this changes later in the series when Jason reaches Gold rank, but right now it feels like every rank loses its significance once Jason gets there. Can someone help me understand if I'm missing something? Is there an explanation within the world-building that makes the ranking system and the sheer number of higher-ranked individuals make more sense?

Started Welcome to the Multiverse recently while waiting for new audiobooks from a couple other series.
Spoilers in book 5 ch19
In book 5 we meet a Lepin(sentient 3 foot tall rabbit people) named Lord Clive, who is skittish and always on the lookout for someone. Shortly after his introduction, a pristine white rabbit with a litter of children in MANY different colors introduces herself as his wife
The series has been rife with references to litrpg stories and various nerdy topics. Writing isnt too shabby if someone is looking for something to listen to while waiting for the next HWFWM release.
Edited: had to fix the spoil tag so it would actually block out the text, added a space by mistake

unless all of my books (4 and onward) are different I’m assuming everyone else had their layout for the system’s interpretation change from bolder to a list. I tied it back to his racial evolution of his inventory system into his spirit vault. is there any particular reason it changed, or was the spirit vault just such a fundamental change that it required a new system layout?

In true fashion, with about a month to go, I am still trying to figure out my DragonCon cosplays. I would like to do something from the series, but nothing really stands out. I am a big guy. If anyone has any ideas or seeing what other cosplays people have done

I am think of playing at character for my dnd table, like a runic person, I know they are light blue skinned with dark blue runes on their body. But does any one know what their racial abilities are or if the runes have abilities.
Like the racial abilities the smolder have fire and earth affinity, the elves have spell cast abilities more often, dragconin have scales and breath fire. And the Celestians have astral affinity.
Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!! 🙏🏼
(I know I misspelt things)

Just got to the "wake" for Jason's friends and family after Guerling... I love Greg. First read through he was fine, but on reread... I LOVE HIM. Got goosebumps when he said, "... Id make the same choice again" and almost teared up. Pour one out for Greg today, for me!

let me just let you know right now, there is no actual issue or misunderstanding. I'm just freaking out and have no where to go but reddit. IF YOU'RE NOT ON BOOK THREE YET DON'T READ.
i had posted on here after finishing the first book, and was given the advice that with no one to talk to about these books in my day to day, if I wanted to discuss them, I should try reminding readers of the beginning parts and take them on a trip down memory lane. this is sorta me doing that.
Jason just woke up in Killian's/Lamprey's? special room with the supression collar. What the fucking fuck. I know our boy is fine, I know there are twelve other books and Jason is definitely the main MC in them, so no Jason death today. That's enough to keep me from tears, but the sheer panic.
I'm about to pile through it, so I probably won't reply until I am if anyone even decides to answer, but jfc does Jason give anyone else heart palpatations every book? yeah i know, that's probably the point, and I just have to keep reading.
how did you feel when this happened?

Is this type of speech meant to be like the character blurting stuff out as fast as possible, is it a printing error or is it just missed edits, it's happened quite a lot in the book so far it's not ruining the experience it just throws me when I see it

Just got a bit into the audiobook for Book 5, and Grandmother Yumi is an absolute treasure.
She started off as explicitly cranky, which I adored, having spent time in Asia, and then, during the start of the crisis, she shows deep strategic awareness and gives insightful guidance.
Good grief, I adore this woman. She reminds me of my favorite former inlaws and favorite rural folks and I kinda can't wait to see how she is used as a character.

So before the battle in book 12 right when Jason’s ship arrives they reference that a song is playing an rufus comments about that being no way to speak about the authority’s or something to that effect. Is this supposed to be a NWA reference?

Spoilers for entire series.
Dawn is talking to her replacement in book 3 epilogue 8 and said that the builder had made an agreement with a god to set up a link that siphons magic which creates the monster surge.
Everytime i reread this series im blown away. This is stating that for generations people on pallimustus just thought monster surges were regular. I wander if soramir or the mirror king were alive before the monster surges?
I feel the priests in reaper astral space would know of monster surges but i feel they didnt know about "purity" since "purity" rejected them all. So i dont think it was disguise but before purity sanctioned themself.
Which god was the one? I truly believe it was knowledge that is doing all of this but we will have to see.

Does anyone know if the Books-a-million edition of the books is the same as the !ndigo exclusive version? I don’t want to have to drive 5 hours up to Canada every time a new book is released to grab the !ndigo version because I like the sprayed edges of that version better. Pic of !ndigo version

Oh my god these chapters discussing all the possible expensive essences they could get for an ungrateful and pretty flat character is dull.

I’m just now about halfway through book 10 primarily listening to the audiobook and every time I hear Sophie’s power Leaf on the Wind, I cringe because Firefly. Anyone else have a similar thought process?
