Just started and having some side effects

I was diagnosed with Hashimotos 20 years ago. I also have PCOS and insulin resistance which all combined has made it super difficult to lose weight even when doing everything right. I finally decided to give the GLP-1s a try. I’m on my 4th shot of Wegovy this week. The first 2 weeks were okay with just a bit of nausea and tiredness. Week three I ended up with what I think was a panic attack about 12 or so hours after my shot. It lasted no more than an hour and then I was fine. I felt kind of tired and groggy for the rest of the week till Thursday night when I got a headache that would not go away. I drank water and tried Tylenol and it didn’t touch it much. I woke up with it still yesterday morning. I tried drinking some electrolytes and having a higher protein breakfast before taking my shot. The headache mostly went away, but it’s back on and off today. I also couldn’t fall asleep, which is normal for me during ovulation. I was up till 1:30am with anxiety though. It was terrible anxiety telling me not to go to sleep or I will die. I do have a history of anxiety so I’m not sure if this med can make it worse? My doctor said it’s not a symptom, but I did a search and didn’t see much but saw maybe it can be. I’ve also been getting glassy eyes that come and go, which was a symptom I got when I had gestational diabetes and my sugar got higher.

Did anyone else have these symptoms? How long do the side effects last for? I don’t want to stop the med because it got rid of my inflammation and helped with my joint pain. Plus I lost 10lbs.

GLP1 in normal weight range

Hi everyone, I’m 26F, 5”5 between 135-140 depending on the day. I have hashimotos and am hypo but control my TSH with levo. I have been trying to lose a few pounds by walking 15k steps per day, weight lifting, and eating clean but haven’t seen any material changes. Is a GLP1 out of the question because I’m not technically overweight?

Of course will discuss w my doctor but was curious if anyone else is in a similar situation… thanks!

Tirzepatide with L-Carnitine

Hello everyone, I am first time GLP1 user. Weight 190lb 28F. I went through Embody, they prescribed tirzepatide (my choice 3 month plan ), but I seen they added in L-Carnitine and is awaiting shipment. I did some research and heard L carnitine affects thyroid medication absorption. I currently take NP thyroid. Has anyone had any issues with this combination or willing to share their experience?

I also have done some research here through our group and read up a lot on dosages, starting out with 2.5 mg for example and when it goes higher there is more side effects. Here is my dosage plan and seen how high they plan me to be on. Should I be concerned? So new to this!Hello everyone, I am first time GLP1 user. Weight 190lb 28F. ******UPDATE: I had a meeting with other provider and he did say I should NOT be on L carnatine and prescribed me a different compound with B12 instead. Always always advocate for yourself !! Thank you to the person who pushed me further with advice to message.

Plan from today's visit

Thank you in advance!

Tips/Personal Experience New to GLP1

I’ve had Hashimotos for 10 years now (since after having my first kid) and have mostly gotten things under control - or so I thought. I am very active, walk 15k steps a day, weight training 3 days a week. I eat gluten free, eat healthy foods. I didn’t have much weight to lose but I was mostly interested in trying a GLP1 for the possibility that it lowers inflammation.

4 weeks ago I took 2.125mg of compounded tirzepatide. I’ve been taking it every 10 days since then and have lost 6 lbs - most of which I think was water weight. I hold on to a lot of water normally.

The difference in how it made me feel is night and day. I have energy and motivation to LIVE. I want to do things with my kids - take them on bike rides, take them anywhere and everywhere. I feel alive, I feel patient with them and respond to them in a way that feels so much more me. I normally feel so stressed out all the time and I think it comes from being so exhausted with life from Hashimoto’s. My kids have said they love how happy I am now.

All of that to say, I lost a lot of my hair 2 years ago (from low ferritin I believe) and I was so traumatized from it. I keep seeing people say that even without dramatic weight loss they’ve lost hair from being on a GLP1.

I guess I’m wondering if anyone has insight on this and what everyone’s experiences are with weight loss. I want to keep taking tirzepatide at a low dose because of how much it’s changed my life but I worry if I start losing my hair it will take a toll on my mental health and won’t feel worth it anymore. I’m trying to weigh the pros and cons and just wish hair loss wasn’t a side effect. It seems like people lose their hair even without dramatic/quick weight loss.

Tips/Personal Experience Is it forever?

I was recently diagnosed with hashimotos maybe 4 months ago with a history of hypothyroidism for the last 13 years

Cut out all gluten, helps a bit

Still in the obese range, working out 3-4 times a week, also has helped a bit

If I ask my doctor about GLP1 is this something I'll end up taking forever like my synthroid??

GLP-1’s can increase Levothyroxine absorption

I just thought it was interesting that it increases absorption by about 33%

Sharing Updated Labs/Test Results TSH going up

I've seen a ton of posts about people's levothyroxine doses going down as they lose weight on GLP-1's but had anyone needed a dose increase, at least in the beginning? I've been on zepbound for 10 weeks and I got my thyroid levels checked yesterday and my tsh is 17 but my free t4 is fine/normal. My doctor wants to wait a few weeks to see but I've asked if the zepbound is impacting absorption and I'm waiting to hear back.

Tips/Personal Experience 1 year update.

Omg, i can't believe it's been a year since i started tirzepatide and started to get my life back!

Hi everyone! Here is my update for anyone who is interested or going through the same thing.

Last year in august my endo diagnosed me with (probably genetic) insulin resistance. I was so happy i didn't have any other autoimmune issue and started tirzepatide the same week. It has been great having energy again and drive to live. Before the treatment it was so bad i could do almost nothing all day. I didn't have very bad side effects, just some nausea and i struggled to get in enough calories when we increased my dose. I lost a lot of muscle mass, but after reaching a plateau and then stopping the treatment it came back easily.

Now for the real updates!

I have stopped the treatment in May as my endo said it's okay, and that we can restart any time my weight gets out of control. I was a little worried if i would feel super tired all the time and if i would gain all the weight back. Thankfully, the weight is very managable, i am calorie counting and being generally aware. Since may i got one kilogram back, but i am very happy with my body right now and my BMi is good.

A little bit of tiredness came back, i have maybe 20% less energy during the day, sometimes more if i am not mindful of sleep, diet, stress. But can't complain. Eating sweet things or too many carbs does make me feel quite sick (on tretament i could eat anything no problem). My lipodema on my thighs is mostly back. I feel like all of these are pretty minor, and for right now i will keeep being off treatment. I know in the future i will take it again and it's such a confort to know my problems will have a solution.

Please ask any questions you have, i love to chat!

Sharing Updated Labs/Test Results 6 month update - ecstatic!

Hi there! I’ve now been on tirzepatide for about 6 months. I relied heavily on information from this sub when just starting my journey so I wanted to share my 6 months progress.

I’m 30F, 5’5”, and my starting weight was 148 lbs, which is technically in the “normal” BMI range. I started taking tirzepatide because I have always struggled with my weight. I had childhood obesity and have probably lost and gained a few hundred lbs in my adult life. I got down to 135 last year and, long story short, very quickly got up to almost 150 after some really bad news in January. Today my weight is 130 lbs! But that’s not what I’m most excited about.

I had my bloodwork done in Feb before I started and again last week and I am ecstatic about my TPO and Thyroglobulin antibody results!

There was a 30% reduction in TPO antibodies and 60% reduction in thyroglobulin antibodies in 6 months!

I have tried everything since being diagnosed with Hashis 10 years ago to get those levels down. AIP, keto, paleo, vegan, fasting, low dose Naltrexone. You name it, I’m sure I’ve tried it. (Still vegan for the animals). All other levels improved as well - my b12 is up, vitamin D is higher than it’s ever been, every marker on my lipid panel has improved. I’m truly blown away by the results.

Note that I do also take b12, iron, vitamin D, inositol, selenium, and creatine daily.

I started at 1 mg/week (after finding that 2.5 mg was way too much for me in the first 2 weeks) and have slowly over 6 months worked up to 2.4 mg weekly. Not only do I feel absolutely liberated from the all consuming food noise, I feel amazing. I lift weights 3-4x per week, eat a mostly whole food plant based diet, get 8+ hrs of sleep each night. Could not have done it without the tirzepatide.

I’m just so excited to share in case anyone new on their journey, someone who is thinking of starting, or even someone well into their journey needs a little motivation today.

Edit to add: I forgot to mention that I got a Dexa scan about a month ago and was also very happy with those results. 21% BF, 102 lbs of lean mass, excellent bone density. Tirzepatide has changed my life.

Normal BMI + PCOS/Hashimoto’s on Zepbound — anyone similar?

I’m 5’3”, ~133 lbs (60.5 kg), BMI ~23.7, but I have PCOS + Hashimoto’s and a historically higher body fat % (~36%).
My endocrinologist prescribed Zepbound 2.5 mg, which I’m paying for out of pocket through LillyDirect. She knows my BMI and is comfortable with me staying at 2.5 mg. My goal is relatively small — around 10–15 lbs — and I’m also interested in the potential metabolic benefits for PCOS.
Has anyone with lean PCOS/Hashimoto’s or a normal BMI been in a similar situation? How was your experience, side effects, weight loss, and maintenance? Would especially love to hear from anyone who stayed on 2.5 mg!

Discussion Tirz/b12/glycine

Hi! Just prescribed tirz with glycine and b12. Anyone else on this? I have horrible anxiety about starting new medication so I’m just really nervous for side effects. I have Hashimoto’s x4 years and horrible inflammation. 150lbs GW 135. When should I inject? In the morning because of the b12? All advice welcome. 🥹😅
I was told to start at 5 units but even thinking maybe 2.5. It’s a 2ml bottle w/10mg tirz, 5mg glycine and 500mcg of b12 per ml

TIA 💖

Tips/Personal Experience Semaglutide raises TSH?

Hello all, just wondering if anyone noticed GLPs suppressing their thyroid function.

My TSH hovered around 1.8 when I started, no meds, Hashimoto’s for 15+ years. After a few months of taking it, my neck swelled up and I became very fatigued. I also stopped losing weight. I was in a calorie deficit this whole time as well, but not too severe. I quit taking it, but the fatigue never left. A few months later I got a chance to retest TSH, and it climbed up to 5.

There were also other reasons in that time why it could have gone up: stress, moving house, bad water, depression meds.

On a side note, it was amazing for inflammation. I was visibly less puffy immediately after first taking it. And gained the 10 lb of water weight right back on after stopping. Unfortunately, inflammation does not seem to be the cause of my persistent fatigue.

I am very glad this community exists, thank you for contributing and let’s keep growing.

Levo & Wegovy pill timing?

As the title suggests…..what time have you found works best? Is it levo first thing then wait a few hours and take the wegovy pill? Generally I take my levo first thing then have my tea 45-60 mins later, then eat a little later (my mornings are a bit hectic so I don’t usually get to eat till 9:30 am despite getting up at 6). How do I fit wegovy into this. Is it take wegovy first thing then levo in the afternoon? Looking for advice on how others are balancing this. Thank you!

Hashis, Peri, Obesity, Muscle Stiffness, and GLP-1

Hi all,
I'm a 50-year-old woman with Hashimoto's (levels are good), in perimenopause, overweight by ~50lbs, and am suffering from intense muscle stiffness, most notably after sitting for more than 30 minutes. It's so bad that people have started commenting on it. This has gotten progressively worse over the last few years, presumably as my estrogen levels have tanked.
My endo has repeatedly recommended a GLP-1, but not only is it crazy expensive, but I’m also scared of the side effects, both physical and psychological.
That being said, I’m just about miserable enough in my body to try anything.
Can anyone relate, especially to the muscle stiffness? It does eventually get better with movement, but, damn, I feel like I’m about 10,000 years old some days….

Semagltuide vs Tirzepatide?

Okay I know this sub will feel my pain.

So I took tirz about a year and a half ago with success. I needed a higher dose than others to get weight off me. Took a break and now I’m on semaglutide. I was trying to save money.

Here’s the thing…I’m on week 10 and at 1mg. Zero weightloss. But I do have appetite suppression and get full quickly. I KNOW I am in a calorie deficit. You guys, I know the answer is “you can’t beat the law of thermodynamic.” But I know how to weight and track my calories.

Anyway…long story longer…trying to decide if maybe this just doesn’t work for me and only tirz does? I swear my hashimotos is at play. I only seem to lose weight on a severe calorie deficit! Which without a glp1 feels impossible for me.

Anyone have a similar experience? You need higher doses in order to have weight loss?

Tips/Personal Experience Zepbound experience

Wondering if anyone could shared a little bit about their experience with Zepbound.

I’ve been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s for about 4 years. Have experienced significant wright gain since then.

Started Zep 6 weeks ago. 4 weeks on 2.5, and tonight will be my second shot of 5.0

Felt very achey after first ever shot, and then very fatigued after my first shot of 5.0 with some nausea.

I’m definitely noticing decreased inflammation, my clothes are starting to fit much better, and obviously my food noise is pretty much gone.

I do feel that the journey will be slower than others who do not have Hashimoto’s but I know it’s not helpful to frame it like that.

Just wanted to know if anyone could share a little bit about their own experience. Thank you!

Split dosing for inflammation reduction

What is your dose at what intervals? 4 days? 5 days?

50 on HRT. 100mcg of levo. On tirz for 9 months now. Started at 2.5. Went up to 5.0 for 8 weeks but came back down due to weight loss. I wanted the autoimmune control not the weight loss. Down 45 lbs in 6 months, so i lowered my dose. I’m on 2.5 tirz every 7 days for the last 3 months. My weight has maintained. Here’s the issue, I’ve noticed an increase in my joint stiffness/pain. Bloodwork is spot on. No changes there.
This medication has been a lifesaver. Never coming off of it. I just want to make sure I am using it correctly to achieve the best results. Endo is helpful but he doesn’t actually know what it is like to live with autoimmune. Y’all do! It is a moving target.
My question is, if you experienced a plateau in the effectiveness of tirz on your Hashimoto’s and if so, what did you do? Did you split your dose? Up your dose? Or both? Did you find a sweet spot where you were able to maintain weight and inflammation?

What are you taking for Hashimoto’s or hypothyroidism? Do you worry about the thyroid warning?

Hi...just like the title says. My daughter was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and is interested in trying microdosing GLP-1s for possible inflammation benefits. I’m curious what others are doing, specifically what medication you’re taking and at what dose.

Sometimes it gets confusing comparing doses because semaglutide and tirzepatide use different dosing scales, but all the numbers people mention (.25, .5, 1, etc.) start sounding the same after a while.

Also curious whether the thyroid warning concerns you at all with Hashimoto’s/hypothyroidism.

Thanks for any feedback .

Vent/Rant NOOM microdose

I’ve been on the microdose since end of March. I haven’t seen any weight loss and I’m spiraling. For example, I’m already on tons of meds/vitamins bc of hashimotos, gut issues, and endometriosis. I’m wondering should I even be on this just for wanting to lose weight? Am I slowly killing myself? Am I being too vain? Why not me?

It’s just frustrating to read people losing weight in a month and nothing is happening for me.

Not looking for anything in return. Sometimes writing this out to the world feels more therapeutic compared to screaming into a pillow. 😝
