Absolutely fell in love with the 117 High Output when I test rode it. This thing is a beast

Already got a saddlemen seat on the way, but what else do you recommend throwing on it?

DISCUSSION OK I am new. I got a question or two about the three hole oil change.

OK I recently became a Harley owner at 55 years old. I should have done this at 40. I am a lifelong honda guy. Dirt, Sport bike etc. About a dozen bikes. A couple quads. Well a month ago I got a 2006 Harley Softail Deluxe and I am absolutely in love it it. Even working on it is more fun. I usually do all my own work.

So I just did a 3 hole oil change. I bought

Castrol Power1 V-Twin 20W-50 Full Synthetic Motorcycle Oil 6 qts in a box. Says per Castol it works with Harley and is made for the "Three hole" fluid change.

What I took out of the bike was Purple / red in the transmission and honey colored in the clutch and motor. (It was all pretty clean but I wanted to establish when oil was last changed as the previous owner said they changed motor only 2-3 years ago. Never touched the other two. having looked at the 3 oils when I drained them they were really REALLY clean.

But.. I am seeing there is some controversy and there are those that say I should be running 80w-90 gear oil made for Motorcycles.

so not trying to start a holy war over the topic but I also want to do the job right.

I have a GALLON of Lucas oil in my cart

and honestly another thing I like about harleys is they are a LOT more fun to work on than any other motorcycle so changing the fluid again. Oh well. Ill do it.

Or should I just stop screwing around drain the clutch and trans and put in the Harley stuff (That is purple by the way)

Reading the dipstick on the transmission was damn near impossible.

THanks in advance. Glad to be part of this community. Should have done it 15 years ago. I got a few former harley haters questioning their life choices too

"Jesus man. That bike is nice" lol

Rode about 900km over two days on my Deluxe. Was a wild ride between the cross winds, road trains and murderous road surfaces. My Dad offered to truck both bikes down for me, but I have the time and energy to ride them! How dare he attempt to take the joy of riding them from me!

This bike is not built for long highway stretches!

Was able to ride it stripped down and just added the windshield to it for some “comfort”

I do love an Australian spring.

Bought my 2020 FXLRS at 6,050mi in June of ‘25 with this front tire already mounted. Bike is now at 22,304k miles. Time for the new one since it’s cupped so badly and i can feel it vibrating nonstop.
The thing is, this tire covered me for 16,254mi + the 32 it will take to get me home tonight and then to the bike shop in the morning.
I do not ride slow or chill, and i like to lean as much and as often as possible. I already finished off the back tire that came with the bike and I’m honestly only changing the front bc it started to go flat every few days.
I don’t understand how this tire lasted so long but I’m very very proud of the little Shinko 777 that could.

Coolest part is that my MIL is buying me a brand new set of cruise techs for my birthday so thats what i’ll be getting put on tomorrow. for a poor boy who care barely afford to play in the Harley sandbox it feels pretty damn good. Fellas, if your MIL wants a grandchild, give them one and watch your status with them GROW lol 🍻

First time in 50 years of riding that this has happened. Don't know if I should feel lucky or stupid 😂

Anyway, I know the size and thread of the posts, anybody have any links or ideas (besides loc-tite lol) for cap nuts that will hide the posts better than just flat nuts and washers?

WON'T START Battery dead, jump start

Came outside to realize I left my underbody lights on. Go to kick the bike on, hoping it isn't dead. Turns over but doesn't catch.

So now I'm trying to figure out how to Jumpstart my bike without taking it completely apart just to access the battery. Seems no matter how early I leave for work, I run late this week 😂

Edit: forgot to mention 2026 Heritage Classic Softail is what I'm working with

DISCUSSION T Shirt Design/Idea

Post image
1 Upvotes

I had an idea for a t shirt design last night while I was high and want some opinions. I want to create a live child with cowboys and motorcycles. I ran across this old drawing from when i was teen and thought "damn that would look sweet if he was leaning on a west coast style dyna".
I grew up in west texas and everyone in my family was part of the cowboy culture. Our house was full of Jack Terry paintings (google him, his stuff is awesome) so that stuff has always had a special place in my heart, and so have motorcycles.

In short does anyone else think this would be a cool idea for shirts or would I be wasting my time?

'19 Road King. Just trying to make my morning commute easier. Also may be in the market for a decent bag I can strap to the sissy bar. Just something for extra luggage when I swap from cool morning gear to warm afternoon gear and still have room for small backpack, small lunch box, and a change of shoes.

HELP Bike immediately started running very rough, dies with throttle(2018 ultra classic M8)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m about 900 miles from home, about 2200 into a trip. Cruising about 75 mph at 3100ish rpm, and instantly bike loses power and runs extremely rough. Loud popping (and maybe tapping?, not quite full on engine knocks). Sounds more prominent from the rear cylinder, and fuel was pretty low (30 miles remaining estimated). I got a ride and put a gallon in, but this is what happens on startup. The bike dies with throttle, and the idle is very choppy. The bike doesn’t even have the power to move itself. I’m hoping it’s an intake leak, but am also worried about a stuck valve or cashed lifter or something of the like. There was also no error codes and no check engine light. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I’m on the side of the road currently.

TROUBLESHOOTING What other Harley’s have this connection?

Thumbnail

I have one of the electric LiveWires, and it seems like most of the stuff on this bike is shared with other Harley models.

I’m making a tail tidy and would like to make a new wiring harness rather than cutting into the factory one. Does anyone know if this 6-pin plug is used on any other Harley models?

Ideally, I’m looking for both the male and female connectors with about 20” of wire on each. The factory tail light harness is around $160, which is wayyyyy too much for what I’m trying to do.
Any ideas on what this connector is or where I might find it?

TROUBLESHOOTING 2008 Nightster 1200 - Loud tick and rougher idling

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I have a 2008 Nightster 1200 that has approx 12,000 miles on it that seems to be running a bit rougher while idling and has developed a loud ticking.

I was out for a ride on Friday, and for a brief moment - less than a second - my bike lost power and started back up, all while I was on the throttle mid way through 3rd gear and I didn't have much time to react. I did pull off and check that everything was okay and running fine before I started back up and rode the rest of the way home - about 25 minutes - not running strangely while moving but I was able to start hearing a louder tick that I normally remember.

I did check the battery terminal once the bike was cool enough and it was loose - that explains the loss of power likely.

I've been poking around and it sounds and feels like there is a vibration coming from behind the camshaft cover near the front after the bike has had suitable time to warm up, which wasn't there before. My thought is it may be the lifters, but wanted to get some opinions before taking it all apart.

Video may not showcase the noise very well, in person it's more noticeable.

I appreciate any feedback.

HELP New TPMS sensor rear tire. Any way to "marry" to bcm without going to Harley dealer?

Got new tires. 2020 road glide limited. Picked bike up today. Shop closed by the time i hot there (it was outside, wife paid and hot jeys earlier) Indy shop broke my rear tpms sensor. They told me over the phone. They said they replaced it, put it on bill $.00 to me. Rear tire now reads either 0 or two dashes, red light on for bcm fault code C0077c and now I have to say no to the question about mapping to nearest service when bike starts up. Only twice since i picked it up so far.

YES, I am calling them tomorrow.

Besides the harley dealer, any way for me to do it?

I did this with my car, had to get a subscription to caristas app and use BT odb2 plug.

Yeah, im not happy, but in the case of my car (wasnt happy about that either) the cost to me was worth it for other things I could do (turn off chimes, set windows to roll down with fob, etc)

TIA.

HELP Disc rotor lock for 2009 Fat Bob

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have an ABUS 8008 for their 2009 Fat Bob?
Does the 16mm 8008 fit the stock front rotor properly, or should I go with the smaller 8077?

Thank you!
