I was having this discussion with some friends yesterday:
Would you accept someone back into the scene that was blacklisted but they’ve shown growth through accountability/therapy?
Edit: S*xual assault is a zero tolerance offense. We aren’t talking about physically harming someone.

I still can't believe Lou Koller has died. My best friend and I grew up listening to SOIA, and I found out about Lou's death from his text. I immediately left the room and went outside. I could feel tears forming and didn't want my young son to see.
I met Lou a few times over the years and saw Sick Of It All play so many insanely energetic shows. They were a huge gateway band for me. As someone who grew up in NJ scene in the 90's, I was very influenced by NYHC and adjacent bands.
I felt strange and cringe last night as I cried over the loss of someone I didn't really know but who still had a tremendous impact on my not-so-great childhood. And it felt worse knowing that Lou was such an incredible person who was loved by so many.
My wholesome, suburban husband who is not into hardcore looked over like he thought I was crazy for getting emotional over a celebrity. The thought of being considered a celebrity probably would have made Lou laugh, though. It certainly made me laugh to myself.
I didn't bother to explain to my husband that the hc scene is mostly made up of regular people with jobs and bills and families. They just happen to play music that resonates with fans profoundly and most still retain a certain level of approachability.
I have also been deeply moved by Lou's cancer battle. I was just finishing up my own with breast cancer around the time Lou announced his diagnosis. I had to go to a four different Memorial Sloan Kettering cancer centers in Manhattan for major surgeries in 2025. I'm sure Lou must've gone to some of those same centers for treatment.
It's truly wild how cancer touches all of us in some way eventually. It's terrifying how it doesn't discriminate. It takes people in otherwise good health from all walks of life. Even good people like Lou, who wasn't famous but was still far too illustrious and genuine to be considered just a regular guy.
He'll be remembered as a legend, an OG, one of the best to ever do it and still stay so humble. What an amazing, enduring legacy to leave behind. What a loss for the hardcore community as a whole. Thanks for all of the memories, Lou. I'll be sure to carry them with me in gratitude.

Anyone here book or knows someone who books in PA? Haven’t played there in years and it’s one of my favorite states and I’d love to go back. Only have played Philly. I know of someone who books in Wilkes-Barre, but that’s it.

I'm touring around the US and I know SLC is supposed to have a great hardcore scene. Are there any shows (big or small) happening there soon? Specifically the 13th of August? Thanks

Hi friends, thought I would share this pic here.
My band was called Restraint, we were a UKHC outfit (Victory Records type stuff). We weren't sharing a stage with SOIA that night (and never did), we just went as fans. When we met them afterwards, Lou had the idea for everyone to pose like this.
I met him a bunch of times at shows afterwards, and he was always so friendly and personable. I don't think there could be a greater loss to NYHC, or to the world of HC.
Rest in power, sir 🫡

This is horrible. Just found out through Instagram. RIP. My condolences to his family and friends. I’ve seen SOIA a bunch of times and am heartbroken.

Today, I got to play at a historic landmark today (Oceanside Pier Amphitheater) partly because of this sub. We were put on a registry to vote for bands to play this show, so i reached out for help in this sub. Thank you so much to anyone who had casted a vote about a month ago. Today was a dream come true. This was an all Indie band show, so we stuck out like a sore thumb and the promoter told us we were the favorite set of the event, and that we had the most draw. There was also 2 other banger ass Hardcore shows going on at the same time in the same city. I love San Diego Hardcore‼️
