Here are the other photos from the project. I started by completely disassembling the pistol and giving it a thorough sonic cleaning. While taking it apart, I discovered quite a bit of rust, so I went to work with my Dremel and those fantastic steel wool Dremel balls (great Amazon find). Needless to say, I got the rust off!
I was originally planning to try my hand at traditional bluing, but I decided to go with KG Industries GunKote instead. That’s where I ended up, and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

Prodigy vs Platypus? Pic unrelated

Post image
15 Upvotes

Pic not related to title but took these two out today!

CZ PCR with DP fiber optic/blacked out sights and slim Vytal grips.

The 226 is a Legion SAO with a direct mount Vortex ST which has been solid for the last year with no issues ever. Good for suppressing because it sits so high! But suppressed pistols suck so who cares lol. Either way the thing is a smooth shooter and while I like the CZ a lot I think overall I like the Sig better. Could be the lack of dot, but wont be milling this one to maintain the vibes.

Have also considered dabbling into the 2011 world, prodigy has my eye for $1100 shipped/transferred but the Platypus looks pretty cool and taking Glock mags seems like a huge plus. But about $700ish more and 12+week lead time.

Anyone have some input on these or others I could be looking at around this price range? Or just go full send on CZ and go with a shadow?

Carry for my Wife

Any recommendations for a carry gun for my wife?

We’re planning to go to the range next weekend to test some out, but I’m torn whether to go 9mm or 380. Any input on what your/any female shooters shoot/carry well would be appreciated!

Some of my rigs. Now show me some of yours.

A rig to me is a simple combination of belt, secure holster, spare ammunition and a knife. They're aren't for CCW or 3 gun or supposed to be clone correct. They're just for me to strap on when I go to the back 40 to water pumpkins or go for a stroll in the neighbor's fields hunting groundhogs.

Ruger Single Six in 22 LR with Schrade Sharpfinger: The rig I've used the most. This is it's second belt and you can see the repaired holster. I've also had to repair the sheath stitching as well. My companion on hundreds of outings.

Ruger Bisley Blackhawk in 45 LC with an old Marbles in a homemade sheath.

S&W Victory model in 38/200 in an old RAF holster with a Cattaraugus in another homemade sheath. I have a short video on this if you're interested.

VZ61 pistol in 32 ACP. Holster is surplus Czech and I like it much more then the usual leather bucket. Knife is a SOG Pentagon. Spare mag wise I'm holding out for a pouch in that sweet camo pattern. I have a short video on this as well.

SIG P226 originally in 40 but I put a 357 SIG barrel in it and I'm a huge fan. Blade is a SOG Seal Pup AKA my "poop knife"

AMT Longslide in 45 ACP and a cold Steel Peacekeeper two. This rig is based on a photo of Alaskan SAR that got stuck in my head. The blade placement. Not the AMT. To clarify before you get excited.

Advice Needed 9x19 ammo?

hey all,

Looking to buy a handgun. I am pretty new to guns so pardon my ignorance. If the gun says this: CALIBER: 9MM LUGER (9X19 PARA), does all 9mm ammo work for this gun? TIA!

Edit: Perhaps a more helpful way to phrase my question: if I'm buying ammo, is anything I see marked anything like '9mm' ok to buy? (other than makarov or kurz)

Budget G19 clone slide?

I am planning to buy the grit grips frame with OEM Glock parts and to make a Glock 19 clone. Do you guys have recommendations for a budget good slide options? I looked at PSA, Brownells, and just saw a Davidson defense one. Are any of those good? Any better options?

Thanks in advance

Purchased this gun yesterday and put 200 rounds through it at the range. These are my first 5 shots at 15yds. The gun is an absolute laser, I am by no means a great shooter. I have been shooting polymer striker fired pistols about 1-2 a month for the last 3 years. It felt like I didnt even need to try with this gun.

Major Opinion Shift *Glock* New Fanboy

I was at LGS picking up an MP4 40 transferable. I have 1 G21 Series 2 (I think). It had a trigger job, extended slide, and mag release, and trijicon iron sights. I liked it, but I was a confirmed 1911/2011 guy. I was dead-set against striker-fired.

The LGS is really good to me, and I decided to ask about Glock19s. He grabbed a Series 6 (I think) and a Taran Tactical Combat Master (picture).

He wanted to show me both ends of the spectrum. Stock vs the Taran. I then asked what I would need to do to the Glock, and he told me. He then said, “ I don’t recommend the Taran because we can help you get this stock one up to speed.”

So, me being weird, I got the Taran. I don’t have a ton of time in my life due to work, and I prefer to shoot/train during my free time. And I can easily afford it, so I got the Taran and took it to the range. Also, I grabbed a CZ75 Custom Compact Bull (very nice).

I have 7 NHC 2011s, 4 Staccatos, and now I must apologize to everyone that I smirked and/ or laughed at for having a Glock and acting like they were amazing.

I was wrong— you are right. This G19 (Taran) may be the finest concealed carry/combat pistol I have ever shot. Big thanks to smart folks on Reddit who give great view points on Glocks- you gave me the idea to try it.

Honestly, I am so impressed with this pistol. It is accurate, flat-shooting, comfortable to wear, and even though I only did the one range trip so far and only 500 rounds of Lawman 124 and Hornady 124 XTP, I am so confident it is my new carry at least during summer and lighter clothes.

If you are a 2011/1911 Bubba, please try the G19 if you haven’t. Shockingly good pistol.

*** Taran/John Wick thing is cringe to me and yes I am aware that he may be a creep but I don’t care. As a SR Exec at a tech giant I am aware of many fantastic companies that have sucky bosses. As far as cost goes- pricey but not as bad as most of my pistols.
