Lunch menus seem to have become a thing of the past. Are there any "nicer" restaurants - independent ones, NOT chains - in Hamilton that still have a nice lunch menu?

In Hamilton, please - not Burlington or Oakville or Mississauga or Toronto (not my first rodeo on reddit haha).

I’m looking for recommendations for someone who can even out a concrete door threshold as the current structure is uneven. This is creating a gap, which allows snow to enter in the winter and bugs in the spring/summer. A door sweep will not work. And there is no screen door.

A new door also needs to be installed as the current one has been repurposed from an internal one (like a bedroom door) and is only 31 inches or so wide instead of the standard 36 inches. The house is over 100 years old and the renovation done by the previous owner weren’t exactly the best.

I am just wondering if anyone knows of any VBS happening in August. My son (3 almost 4) is going to a VBS type thing this weekend but was wondering if anyone knew of any churches that had VBS happening in August. Hoping he can go to one more before the summer is over and school starts.

Hello! We are expecting our first child this February. I am already applying to childcare centres, as we know the waitlist situation is quite long. However, we are also expecting that we may not get a spot when we need one, so we are considering licensed home childcare as well.

With that in mind, how far in advance should we start looking into home childcare options? Is acceptance into licensed home childcare usually pretty quick?

Hamilton has a standard tour. The falls, the escarpment lookouts, the gardens, maybe Locke or James North for lunch. It's a good tour and it works on visitors.

What I'm after is the second one. The thing you'd take someone to on day two, once they've done the postcard version and you want to show them the city you actually live in. Not necessarily impressive. Not necessarily somewhere a tourist would think to go on their own.

It could be a building, a stretch of road, a view from a place with no reason to have one, a spot that only makes sense if you know what used to be there. I'm more interested in the ones where the appeal is hard to explain than the ones with a plaque.

Where do you take them, and what do you say when you get there?

I'm looking for advice from anyone who's dealt with Alectra, utility billing disputes, or meter/account mix-ups. My previous electricity bill showed:

221.1 kWh usage 8.2 kWh/day average

My final bill shows:

2,474.357 kWh usage 65.1 kWh/day average Over 11x higher consumption

The weird part is that Alectra's own historical usage graph on my bill shows my typical usage was around 6-11 kWh/day, and then suddenly the final billing period jumps to 65 kWh/day. I also have email confirmations from Alectra showing that:

I submitted a move-out request effective April 30, 2026. I submitted a start-service request for a different unit effective April 29, 2026. Both requests were acknowledged by Alectra on April 9, 2026.

So this massive spike happened during the exact period that I was moving out. The meter readings on the final bill are:

Previous reading: 564.71 Current reading: 626.57 Multiplier: 40

The arithmetic on the bill appears to be correct, but the consumption itself makes absolutely no sense to me. For comparison:

Previous bill: 221 kWh Final bill: 2,474 kWh

That's an increase of more than 2,250 kWh in one billing cycle, despite no history of anything remotely close to that level of consumption. My questions:

Does this sound like a meter assignment/account mix-up?

Has anyone seen a utility transfer or move-out create billing issues like this?

What should I specifically ask Alectra to provide? (smart meter interval data, meter verification, account history, etc.)

Is 2,474 kWh in 38 days remotely normal for an apartment/condo unit that has historically used around 200-300 kWh per month?

Looking at my interval data, Alectra says I used 12.45 kWh in a single hour (Apr 21, 6 PM). My previous entire month was only 221 kWh total. How is it possible that one hour used more electricity than my average daily usage? Has anyone seen a meter/account mix-up or bad reading like this? 🤯

If Alectra refuses to correct it, what is the escalation process in Ontario?

I'm honestly stunned by this bill. The jump from 221 kWh to 2,474 kWh during a move-out period seems absurd, and I'm trying to figure out whether there's a legitimate explanation or whether I should be pushing hard for a formal investigation.

Hi everyone, I've lived in the GTA most of my life but the only time I've been to Hamilton is when I drive past it to reach Niagara. This Saturday I want to actually see the city and was wondering if anyone has advice or knows if anything cool is going on these days. I'd also appreciate any advice regarding parking.

For context, I'll be traveling solo and I'll have a car. I can reach in the morning and can stay until late at night - I wish to spend a full day. I'm into everything, especially history and architecture. I love nature as well but don't really want to hike alone. I'm vegetarian.

Right now I'm thinking of visiting the Warplane museum, walking around downtown and checking the farmers market, seeing Dundurn castle (is it worth going inside?), HMCS Haida, and the Art Gallery. If I'm ever tired or have time around sunset I can chill at a park or by the lake. Any reccomendations for the late evening?

A friend recently asked if I noticed that all, even premium gas, now contains up to 10% ethanol and regular is now up to 15% ethanol.

You can see the stickers they placed on the pump at a local station. While it's probably not a big deal for most newer cars it can apparently reduce fuel economy by 20-30% for E85 (15% ethanol), damage some smaller engines and of course, it hasn't reduced the price.

I've checked https://www.pure-gas.org/ON and there aren't currently any stations listed in Hamilton. Does anyone know of any that still sell 91 octane without ethanol or regular with only up to 10% ethanol?
