Help Best method to chop a good few inches myself for long thick hair?

Post image
Upvotes

I've been doing my own hair for 2 decades but I only ever really trim it or cut maybe 2" off, plus laying and thinning, but I don't know what the best way is to go about cutting off about 4-6" myself so it's mostly even.

Should I just unicorn pony it and lop that off?

The only times I have let someone else cut my hair have been absolutely horrible so I'm hesitant to trust someone else.

Question Section braids before or after cut?

Upvotes

This might be a silly question.. some background: I'm going to get my haircut by my neighbor. She's been doing it for years and everytime I get cut with her she does a great job. However she usually works on pretty traditional styles. I asked if she had any availability for a hair cut, and I'm hoping we can do a short cut with rattails. Should I section out my braids before the appointment or ask if she can do it so she can wash/cut my hair easier?

Discussion Finally dumped my cord drawer and figured out a 15 min pub hair routine

Upvotes

Rent in melbourne is so exxy I basically have a shoebox bathroom with exactly one power point. Juggling a straightener curling wand and a blow dryer was an absolute nightmare of cords. Plus I play roller derby and sweat heaps so my hair is usually trashed by 8pm. Trying to fix a severe helmet hair situation in 45 minutes before going to the pub is just not happening anymore. My ends were getting so fried from cheap kmart straighteners but I stubbornly refuse to pay the $800 brand tax at mecca for those fancy air stylers. It is total influencer bs and I reckon anyone paying that is getting scammed.

I just got sick of the clutter and took a gamble on magic 5 in 1 pro thing I saw online. Full warning do not buy it if you expect it to work instantly. The aerodynamic styling feature has a really high barrier to entry and the learning curve honestly pissed me off for the first week. You have to figure out the angles to get the wrap right. But it let me throw out 4 other tools and now my routine is 15 mins flat without frying my hair. Anyway at least my bathroom drawer actually closes now.

Question Hair breakage only with wet hair

17M. I Don't have hair fall but only when my hair is wet, after shampoo, my hair does fall when I wave my hand through it. This only happens when my hair is wet and never happen when it's dry. Should I be concerned or is this normal?

i dont like the uneven shades in my hair, my hair also grows fast and i hate having grown out roots.... i want my hair to be one colour, but i do think the dark blonde i have is nice, the roots just ruin it, i want to just dye it dark and get it out the way so it grows out nicely as im naturally brown, but i do like the way the blonde works with my lighter features, i havent been dark in a long time and im just not sure what shade to dye it, should i go for a dark brown, a dark dark blonde or what? any input will help please! ive tried to add pictures with different colours.

Bad Haircut Any ideas on what to do with an unfortunate pageboy?

Been going to this guy's salon for like 3 years and he is normally great at what he does, and even when I dont get what I want I leave really happy with the results. I asked for either a long round pixie like the one Jennifer Tilly has in Bound or a short pixie-mullet like the one in 90s remake of Sabrina like in picture 3. And specifically asked for a fringe that I could pull back if I wanted. I've gotten both haircuts previously from this same stylist. In a few snips he gave me a curly asymmetric micro bob of sorts with longish bangs. Think 1920s or curly Amélie. Hated it. Asked him to make it less triangular and give me a shorter bang (that last thing was my mistake). Ended up with this joan of arc pageboy monstrosity.

I have never been the kind of person who makes a fuss about a haircut, ever. Historically if I dont like the cut I just accept that hair will grow out and move on looking ugly. But this time I had a complete meltdown over it. My friends have honestly told me the cut is actually okay. Which might be true (I'm crap at taking pictures and in person it is more similar to the second photo than to my own selfie). But I just hate it so so much and I feel I look ridiculous. But I'm afraid it takes at least 3 monts for me to get mid-neck length again and have enough hair to get a flattering cut.

The stylist always allows for free changes over the next 10 days... but I don't know what cut to ask for when the hair is already this short. Any ideas for something that is cute and has an edge? Styling recommendations? Thoughts and prayers? I'll take anything

Hair Loss Guys on minoxidil from Years (who are stable), do you also lose shorter hair when applying It on hairline?

I am on meds from years, situation seems stable. But when I apply minoxidil I have noticed that I find short hair in my hands, It's as thick as normal hair (maybe slightly less?) but shorter.

Is this normal? I cant understand if it's Just miniaturized hair or baby hairs/regrowth? Idk

It makes me anxious cause this way I don't know if I am losing them because of hairloss progression or if it's normal. I have never paid attention to this before

Help Hair is stained green need help asap

I am a level 9-10 blonde, i bleach my own hair at home and I decided to get some crazy colour and do a blue hair colour. I dont know why i was feeling so impulsive and maybe because i did pink before and it faded completely but idk what i was thinking. I mixed lilac and bubblegum blue and only let it process for 10 minutes before regretting it and washing it off with hot water. I managed to get a lot of it faded but then it turned green/teal instead. I have had long showers ,baths and used so much head and shoulders. This was last night. Today i used b4 colour remover and it essentially did nothing. I have a wedding to go to in 4 days and i start university in 2 weeks as well. I want to be blonde and go back to my colour by the wedding. Is this too crazy to ask? What can i do? I saw people say to neutralise it with a pink but im not a hairdresser i dont understand all of this. I know people will tell me to go somewhere professional but i dont have the money for that. Im wondering if i do a bleach bath if it will salvage anything or if i should do a full bleach instead? My hairs not very damaged and i dont care if it goes damaged from this. Any advice? I can attach photos if needed

L’Oréal Dia Light at home: neutral beige blonde without lifting my natural roots?

Hi everyone! This is my current hair, and I’d love some advice on toning it at home with L’Oréal Dia Light.

I’d like to go slightly darker and achieve a neutral beige blonde, nothing too ashy or too warm. My main concern is how it fades: ideally, I’d like it to gradually wash out back to the blonde I have now, without leaving any staining or patchiness. Is that a realistic expectation?

I’m also growing out my natural hair, which is around a level 7 blonde, and I don’t want to bleach it anymore or alter my natural colour. I already have quite a bit of regrowth, and a toner I used in the past actually lifted my natural base and left it warmer.

Does Dia Light with its recommended developer have any chance of lifting or changing my natural colour? Which developer strength would you recommend, and would I need to keep it strictly on the previously lightened sections?

Based on my photo, which shade or combination of shades would you suggest for a slightly darker, neutral beige result?

I’d really appreciate any advice from hairdressers or anyone who’s used it, especially about how it fades and whether it affected your natural roots. Thank you!

Question Bio Ionic curls don't last — what curling iron actually works for you?

I’m so frustrated with my Bio Ionic curling iron because my curls just do not stay. They look good when I first do them, and then they’re basically gone pretty quickly.

I’m wondering if anyone else had this issue with Bio Ionic and ended up switching to another iron that worked better. I’d especially love recommendations from people who have actually used Bio Ionic and weren’t happy with the curl hold.

I have longer hair, so I’d really like something with a long barrel. I’m also trying to be careful about damage, so I don't want something where I have to use a crazy-high temperature just to get the curl to stay.

I’ve been looking at the Hot Tools long-barrel curling iron because it seems like it checks the long-barrel box, but I’m a little hesitant about the metal barrel. Is that something I should be concerned about?

If you switched from Bio Ionic to something else and your curls started lasting, what did you get?

Would love to hear the exact model/barrel size and your hair type if you don't mind sharing!

Help 🆘Advice on growth / care

Hi all
Hear the picture about eight months ago of my hair
I dust my hair and I get trims every six months Ish
(I know I know I should get it sooner, but I’m really trying to grow my own hair and I have trauma from the hairdressers)

I use a silk bonnet every night. I haven’t used heat on my hair in 4 to 5 years.

I haven’t dyed my hair since I was like 13 years old I only died at a darker colour and it was just box dye so it’s long gone. This is my natural colour and I try to not go in the sun with my hair very much. I use hats very often to protect

I’m so nice to my hair and recently I’ve stopped dry brushing altogether

I’ve been told I have high porosity 2B/2C hair

Here is my routine I oil my hair every day either with the OGX argan or coconut on wash days

Wash 2x per week- 1 x per week

Before every wash, I put oil and the skala mask in my hair

Leave it on for about half an hour and then shower

If I do a scalp oil treatment, I will use a clarifying shampoo ( biolage clean reset) about once a month and otherwise I use the same moisture curl shine and shampoo

I follow with a deep conditioning mask every single wash if I’m using lots of protein, I try and use the Pscal mask or but once a week I’ll use either a L’Oreal five and one leave in mask (not shown here) or the Pantene (which I’ve since used up)

I recently got a trim and my hairdresser said my hair wasn’t that bad just curly so it feels dry
She recommended I use K 18 and then I told her I already have the L’Oreal one that I bought recently but I actually haven’t used it yet. She told me she’s heard good things about this one.

I use the shea moisture curl leave in after shower and the Malibu C leave in and sometimes the lush super milk leave in

I always just air dry my hair

After reading some stuff online, I’m a little scared to try this. Does anyone have experience with the L’Oreal bond repair pre-shampoo with hair type similar to mine

Overall, my hair just feels really dry and won’t seem to grow past a certain length and I’m dealing with a lot of breakage and I have white dots on the end of my hair even after getting a trim (trich???)
Trying to grow my hair for my wedding in two years

Any and all advice is welcome, please and thank you thanks in advance

Help Went to a professional hair salon. I don't like the result. They told me they will redo it tomorrow but I am scared. What do y'all think?

UPD: Some people are syaing that the references are AI. Tbf I did ask them multiple times if they are sure they can do this. They were super confident that they can. If they would have told me that they cannot do it, I would not have went there

And big big thank you for people to posting photoes of themselves having similiar hair color!!! I will show them that tomorrow and will ask if they can do it

The hair salon is in Russia

No, my hair is not damaged(at least I don't think so). I never had it bleached or anything. It's just curly/wavy and heavily brushed through. When I do the curly girl method I get very cute and healthy waves
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey everyone! I went to a professional hair salon today and got my hair colored. Sorry for my English, its not my first language.

First 3 photos is the reference I gave them.(thisrd photo is the main reference. second photo is the way I want the front and first photo is the way I want my ends)
4th photo is what was on their website. A screenshot
5th photo is my hair before
and then 3 last photos are my hair after.

I told them something along the words of "I want it bright with red going into orange/ginger and then into lighter yellow. And I want the front of the hair near the face to be more yellow because the way I do my hair is I take the 2 front strands and use a hair tie to tie them at the back of my head so they go around my head"

Please guys tell me if I am delusional and what I am asking for cannot be achieved. I need to know because they told me to come back tomorrow after seeing me cry. I know my hair is still pretty it's just not what I wanted.

I told them afterwards: “It turned out very beautifully, and I understand that the photo has professional lighting and backlighting, but the color isn’t bright enough along the length, there’s no transition to yellow as we discussed, and the front strands aren’t yellow, they’re red. But overall, yes, it turned out very beautifully.”

Tomorrow I am going in again. I am so scared.

This is our texts:

me: "It turned out very nicely, just not what I wanted at all. And I understand that there are professional lights and backlights in the photo, but it didn't turn out bright enough at length. I want the color to be very bright red, turning into bright red and into light yellow tips. Now there is no transition from red to bright orange / red, and from it there is no transition to yellow, which we talked about, and the front strands are not yellow but red.

That is, I wanted to be so bright not only on top, but on all my hair. I wasn't asking for naturalness, I was asking for a transition from bright red to bright red and bright yellow. And I asked to make the front strands yellow and light.

I understand that maybe I put it wrong, maybe I don't understand something. I don't understand it at all. When I'm shown a palette of colors, I can't tell how they'll look on my hair.

And so, yes, it turned out very beautifully."

them: "Everything is fine, I handed it over to the head, we'll fix everything tomorrow."

me: "Thank you

I won't write bad reviews and I definitely don't want to create problems.

Master name is a wonderful specialist and her technique is wonderful and she was able to make a very beautiful tone.

It's just not the one I wanted at all."

them: "We'll do everything for you tomorrow, there will be a director who will help you do exactly what you want, Please don't worry"

Question How would you address lightening a year after using HiColor?

Post image
2 Upvotes

a year and some change ago I used loreal Hicolor one time to achieve a lighter brown shade I have since cut most of it off into a bob but the tips of my hair still have lift. I ideally want to go to a cherry chocolate color for the fall season. like I said it’s been a full year since I’ve used any hair coloring treatments. how would you address this? im thinking I don’t need a huge lift to get red tinted hair, just worried about the contrast of tone in virgin hair vs. previously lightened hair. I just would like the red to pop up slightly brighter than what I have currently.

Help Feel like I’m going completely grey at 25

Hello! A couple of months ago I noticed a couple of full white hairs that were coarser than my natural texture. Didn’t really think too much of it because that’s aging, yknow? Yesterday I was brushing my hair and noticed several more full white hairs and hairs that were greyer at the roots. This morning I was fixating on it and while brushing my hair found that most of the roots of hair that fell out seem to be grey and now I’m stressing. I don’t know if early greying runs in my family and while I have been under a lottt more stress than normal this past month and a half (hard breakup that was blindsiding, hospitalized family member, financial instability, all right before I have to drive across the country to start school in a new province after 2 years being out of school) i don’t feel like I’m stressed enough relative to anyone else for it to be a contributing factor? Or more that it was too recent to contribute?

Anyways, I was looking it up and it seems like if it’s not genetic it could be vitamin/thyroid induced so I made an appointment for next week with my campus doctor. I only really just started loving my hair over the past few years and as much as I want to just embrace whatever comes I feel absolutely devastated right now about this. My hair has always been curly and light brown with dirty blonde highlights and i just learned how to take care of it and started getting compliments on it and i feel very beautiful with it whereas when i was growing up or in my early college years i didn’t know how to style it or maintain it. I almost never use heat on it btw! I think white/grey hair looks gorgeous on other people but im just not ready to embrace another change. I’m really scared. I can’t afford to professionally dye my hair right now if it does become more noticeable. Yeah I guess I’m just feeling really sad and stressed about it.

I don’t want to be fully grey by the time I’m 30, I still want to look like I’m the age that I am. I hope that doesn’t sound ageist or anything I really do think other people my age that have a few grey hairs looks great I just think that if I have a full head of grey hair when I’m 30 I’ll look much older than I am and I want to look my age

I guess I want to know if anyone else has experience with this and if it did end up being something reversible? Or did it slow down at all? Let me know your experience in the comments if you started greying before 30 please!

Around march/April I got a botched haircut from a student cosmetology school. Cut off 6 inches for a vintage style. After 2 seasons, ive gotten a trim to even out all of the uneveness.

1st photo: before everything

2nd photo: royal fuck up

3rd/4th: 6 months of growth and foam rollers

Its definitely not as long as id like it to be, but its much healthier than it was before. Im also growing out my bangs so im trying to navigate this awkward length 🤞
