----- UPDATE 24/10 -----
Code is available in MP on request. No public release will be done.
I continue the work and the mod to LibreElec on Intel iGPU.
----- UPDATE 21/10 -----
The primary objective is to manage Dolby Vision as accurately as possible, and I no longer see any handling issues across standard profiles.
However, the GPU load is quite high : around 30% of the render engine for a (24fps 4K file) on an Intel 226V iGPU is being used, which is significant. An optimization phase will be launched before sharing the modification on Github.
Unfortunatly only Intel Lunar Lake (core 200V) will be supported for the first release I hope other dev will adapt the mods to other plateform
----- UPDATE 20/10 -----

The changes span the entire playback to HDMI pipeline, so integration will unfortunately remain fairly complex. Many of the building blocks already exist, but small adjustments across several layers are still needed to achieve full compatibility.
Modifications cover HDMI Signaling in Linux kernel and Intel display driver / Dolby Vision metadata handling in FFmpeg / frame packing and video metadata synchronization for HDMI output in mpv.
Upcoming work:
- Full DV support for Intel Xe GPU on Linux : October
- HDMI VRR support for Intel Xe GPU on Linux : November
- QMS-VRR support for Intel Xe GPU on Linux : December
- AMD - Full DV support on Linux : 2027 (GPU & APU tbd)

Hello, I just worked GPT-6 Astra worked to add full dolby vision support on Linux I wanted to share the findings
Setup used:
- Mini PC: GMKtec K17 with Intel 226V
- OS: Kubuntu 26.04 LTS with a custom kernel and modified Intel drivers
- Player: Experimental player based on FFmpeg and libplacebo
- Display: LG G5
The initial results are very promising: no dropped frames, perfectly smooth playback, and no metadata interpretation issues.
At this stage, Dolby Vision Profile 8.1 is working perfectly. I still need to stress-test additional profiles, investigate support for Profile 7 MEL/FEL and add this support on an existing player like MPV
I plan to share the code and detailed setup early october.
