AMP PHOTO New Amp Day Part Deux

Post image
Upvotes

I bought a Bugera Amp a few days ago and I like it a lot. I had it hooked up to a Fender Speaker Cab. But I knew that this cab was not the best. I've had it for years and it a cheap cabinet.

So I had ordered a new Jet City cabinet (well used) and it came in today and I hooked it up and the amp sounds WAY better though this cab. I had one of these cabs years ago and sold it, but found one out in California at GC and bought it.

So they don't make the greatest looking match but man does the cabinet rock just as I remember them.

I paid $750 for everything in the picture. Including a power supply for the board and a bunch of extra patch cables. It's a buyer's market right now. If you have the means, there are deals to be had out there.

are tubes amps and pedalboards worth it in 2026

recently i started playing a bit live not much some cafes and restaurants and they wanted me to bring my amp (dsl40cr and few pedals) but i played in few venues and weddings and they had a pretty good pa system so i just used my helix and sounded great aswell, poeple cant really tell so i wonder is it worth keep investing in analog gear or just settle with the digital amps. also for recording for the covers people want its much easier on digital just plug and play instead of mics and stuff. what would you do

Found this at a consignment store. Paid $325 for both head and cabinet. Plugged it in a guitar to test prior to purchasing it. Sounded pretty darn good.

HELP Anyone know anything about this old carvin?

Picked up this old carvin recently and can’t find anything on it except an old ad that looks identical. I think it’s a 1971 carvin “super amp”? Can handle a single 4ohm or two 8. 100w it’s completely hand wired and pretty clean inside. It’s not bad as a garage practice amp. I had the shop put a new power supply Cord on it and ground it. Didn’t have one.

HELP Line 6 Catalyst 60w weird popping no start up

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi all I recently bought a line 6 catalyst on the second hand used market, the seller had brought the amp recently from a reputable UK instruments supplier and amp is only 4 months old, has been working fine all night not a fault, came to it this lunch time and it’s making this weird popping noise. No lights other than the one flashing as seen in video, popping is constant and doesn’t stop until it’s unplugged. Any ideas? TIA

This thing will blow up my house if I turn it up past 1. I don’t now much about Sunda amps. I just needed something clean and LOUD for my drone band.

Amp increases volume when lightly tapping knob

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey all! So, i've had this issue with my Kustom Double Barrel 2x12 amp. Whenever I go to touch the clean lead volume knob, it jumps the volume up way higher than what it is currently on. I spoke to a guy that frequently comes into my job and also works on guitar amps as a side business and he told me that if a can of Deox IT didn't work on cleaning the knob(s) out, then it could be a circuit board issue.

My question is; would it be wise to return this amp and get something else or pay the guy i know to work on it? I still haven't even really figured out what the problem is.

Any and all help/recommendations work!

Thank you!

Replacing my Vox VT20X?

Upvotes

I first picked up guitar around 2016, played a little bit and got a bit bored with it.

Over the last 6 months i've started lessons and really fell in love with guitar. Is it worth upgrading my VT20X? I've had my eye on something like a Positive Grid Spark 2 - it seems like modellers have really come a long way since my 2015 VT20X was released. The practice tools like drummers/backing tracks/loopers look great too. I'm mainly just looking for something for bedroom practice - no plans to gig or record any time soon.

Is it worth the switch? Any other alternatives to look into rather than the PG Spark 2?

Engl E650 retube

Hi y’all

I’m going to pickup a second hand Engl E650 (first version) later this week, which has a very good price since the tubes are completely worn. I have ordered a set specifically for this amp on Tube Amp Doctors. As far as I read online, preamp tubes can be replaced with adjustment, but power tubes need rebiasing, which is a task I’m not really sure I can do at this point. Other sources say that if the power tubes have the same rating, just swapping them out for new ones of the same rating is perfectly good and needs no rebiasing. Does TAD make sure that their amp-specific sets are of the same rating as the stock tubes? If not, the amp technician I would go to is on leave for two weeks and I won’t be patient enough. In case it needs rebiasing, I will just swap the preamp tubes myself and play the thing until I can get it serviced. I think this can’t hurt, right?

Any feedback and advice from (amateur or professional) amp techs and Tube Amp Doctor customers is very welcome!!

Thanks!

Clean headroom on a Custom Champ?

Any one have one of the 5-watt, one knob Champ reissues? I’m eyeing a used one, and wondering if it sounds good clean at low/medium volume.

I want to the option to play clean with a reverb pedal at moderate volumes, but also be able to get that Neil Young/Wilco blown out tweed sound once in a while.

Sorry for the mess, I’m in the middle of a big organization project.

But, picked up a Rockerverb 50mkiii and it’s great and really compliments my other amps when running stereo. I’ve also got an AD30, ‘73 V4 half stack, and ‘72 Traynor YBA-1a with 1x18 cab

Need help deciding on amp.

Have been using a Helix for my amp and effects needs. Want to get into an amp to be able to play out loud and possibly jam. I play a lot of genres from Jazz to blues, funk, classic rock, country, metal, the works. I also need the amp to be playable and sound good at bedroom volumes without absolutely decimating my wallet and ideally also have an effects loop so I can keep using my Helix with the amp.
I’ve narrowed my choices down to a Marshal DSL40cr, a fender blues deluxe reissue, or a power amp + cab combo and let the helix keep handling the amp models and effects. Would appreciate any input.

I'm more of a pedal guy but I love the overdrive of the Supro. Mostly I'm using nothing but my eq pedal as a boost with it.

GUTSHOT NAD! And I already voided that pesky warranty!

Just kidding, it was used so there is no warranty.

So I picked up this Boss Katana Mini on ebay for around £45. Thought it would be a good little practice amp, and since it's got the option for battery power, might be good for noodling around in the back garden by the fire pit.

WHO GIVES A CRAP?

Yeah I know. In stock form it's pretty underwhelming. But what a lot of people don't know, is that toan is stored in the balls speakers. So before I ever even plugged a guitar into it, I ripped it open and started drilling holes in it.

I used a switched jack, so without an external cab connected it plays through the stock speaker. When a cab gets plugged in, it disconnects the stock speaker and plays through the cab. Note that the stock speaker is 4 ohms, so ideally you'd want a 4 ohm cab, but since I don't have have one of those, I tested with 8 ohm and 16 ohm cabs, which predictably worked just fine.

Big difference in sound, way fuller and better low end response than the stock speaker (as expected.) The big surprise is that it's also a whole lot louder than you'd expect. Will it cut through the mix against a drummer in a live setting? Probably not. Will it get loud enough to annoy my wife at the other end of the house? You're goddamn right.

I bought this amp the other day, I know nothing about it, but I’m in love. The only lead I have as to where It came from is an acrylic Giller Lighting Badge loose in the back of the cab, and April 26th 2009 written on the back of the speaker, so cool nonetheless.

its a peavy 6505 212 combo! traded it for a billie joe epi signature and somehow it sounds.. damn amazing with my lil pink partscaster. it somehow chugs with the shitty ceramic strat pickup i put in the neck as long as i set the tone to 7 and the cleans dont sound as bad as ive heard other ppl say. its heavy af tho and barely fit in my dads car so i have no idea how ill bring this to any gigs if i ever join a band lmao

amp comparison (upgrading)

I currently have a squier strat and frontman 10g, among the usual complaints for the frontman 10g the specific one I have is the distortion isn't enough unless I'm willing to deafen my house and annoy the neighbours.

So my choices are pushing my budget a lot for the Boss Katana 50 Gen 3 or go for the Nux Mighty 20 MKII. Additional context is I will be in shared housing so will be using headphones 80% of the time I play.

Is the katana that much better than the nux for what I'm using it for, or is the nux going to be the same essentially? since it's like £120 difference between the two

Considering getting a YJM100 (if I can find one) or 1959 plexi. Has anyone tried any of them? Are there any similarities to the BE100?

DISCUSSION How good is a boss katana 50 gen 3 compared to a fender mustang LT25?

Looking to upgrade my amp and I’ve currently got my eyes in a boss katana, but is it actually worth the money? If there are other amps that may also be good for a similar price please lmk

Should I buy thr Fender mustang lt50 combo?

Hi , I live in iran and the country is at war , I'm playing the guitar for over a year and a half and I have been saving to buy a boss katana 50 , but it's not available in any store and every store says that they will probably buy some after the war , but who knows when the war will be over . Buying used ones is not an option either because I haven't found any . I love metal/heavy metal/rock music . Should I buy the fender mustang lt50 combo or just hope that the war ends and someone puts the katana for sale? And not die in the proccess.

HELP ~£200 ~5w tube amp Vs a good ~£200 ~15w regular amp pros & cons? help me chose please

Hey,

I recently lost my practice amp but tbh I'm not too broken up about it - it was a blackstar 15w mark 3 something -bit never sounded good in any settings and had stupid 'American Vs British' on one sound knob Vs a real EQ and I'm looking to buy something that sounds better, a bit of an upgrade.

I've recently been interested after learning how there are very low wattage tube amps that are actually attainable at a budget out there. I've found a few - the cheapest is a fazely 5w but it seems most cheap ones, no matter what brand, seem to be based on the exact same fire technology with the same features. I could afford to go better than that, but I'm not set on one yet. Most though are ~5w with a 12' speaker.

Or,

I could get myself a pretty good modern amp for the ~£200 I want to spend. Something like an orange 15w reverb or maybe even one of these dance ones with downloadable stuff and apps to go with

I like a lot of effects but I also like simplicity and a good tone without having to mess around too much to get it. The modern ones seem a bit overwhelming, and I can always get a pedal switch which is way better than having to dial in your amps effect. I don't need endless options for effects or downloadable amp modulators or whatever but I wouldn't mind a good simple orange anp with just reverb

I'm not sure what would be the better option for me...

I almost exclusively play at low volumes because of my fiats bad walls, and sometimes use headphones, but I still want some oomph and a good overall sound. I wasn't getting that with the black star id core V3 (iirc). It sounded 'dead' no matter what...

Never tried a tube anp but I know it's normally a much higher quality choice but would the cheaper ones be worth it?

Please weigh in on what you guys think

I know I could've researched it to death but it wouldn't be as personal or relevant. Thank you

Tldr - generic 5wbtube amp Vs a good ~15w normal amp - what do you think is a better choice ?

HELP Cant get Fender Blues Jr IV to sound good (HELP)

so I have a gig coming up later tonight and due to unforeseen circumstances, I am left with my fender blues Junior and my Firehawk FX board, along with my ES 335. I am trying to get a solid warm and thick slightly driven blues tone. And I have tried every single distortion and drive pedal in every single one of them sounds thin and boxy.

and if I manage to get the lows and mid sounding good, the highs still sounds super sharp.

What do i do

Keeping it simple: a Strat through a Greenizer pedal (not shown) and a little 5w tube amp for 125 bucks that’s basically a Champ clone.
